The two recordings are from the same venue, but it my opinion, Hammy 79 recording seems to be very echoey compared to the 75 version. Anybody either have a version that isn't echoey or can anyone shed any light on the matter?
Hammy'79
Hammy'75 really sucks IMHO. It's just an average show. Weak setlist, where are all the gems, like Flick of the Wrist, Sweet Lady, The Prophet's Song, Doing Allright etc.???? The highlight of the show is Brighton Rock + solo.
Hammy' 79 is just a rocker, great audience, great setlist, Freddie in superb shape, just brilliant.

The only good thing bout Hammy 75 is its quality. The performance isnt very good, just average, Bo Rhap sucks, and the setlist is boring. But the extravagance is cool!
Hammersmith '75 ws amazing, Freddie's vioce was just awesome that night, and the set list is amazing! Now I'm Here, March of the Black Queen, White Queen, Liar, Keep Yourself Alive....how can you go wrong with those?
Hammy 75 all the way. Queen were on all 4 cyliders that night. I personally never heard a better version of Brighton Rock,BoRhap (even though it wasn't the entire song)and especially Liar. They had a great flow to their playing that night. Over all it was a solid set.
I converted a lot of Zeppelin fans to Queen fans when I used to blast the concert on my Boom box during Lunch break in High school. That's a tough thing to do when your talking about another great band like Zep.

75 is a soundboard recording, and 79 is an audience recording. So of course 79 will probably be echoier (is that how you spell that?!))
The 79 soundboard from the video isn't echoey at all.
I can't choose between these two concerts. They're both fantastic.

Sweet Lady & The Prophet's Song had only just been released, it's hardly suprising that Prophet's wasn't ready to do live yet, plus it would have taken up half the broadcast.

Wrong. They were already in the set before this gig. The A Night At The Opera tour started, I believe, on 15 november 1975 in Liverpool. Even in the first concert were those 2 songs. But since this was a special concert, I guess they had dropped those 2 songs, since they weren't very popular at that time. And that's a shame really.
It has some very nice harmonies, and the headbanging bit is just stunning. One of the best Brian, John and Roger ever have done on a record. It is a great collaboration, musically spoken.
And the song sounded very strong in the beginning.
And by the way, it's my opinion, if you don't like it, fine.
Hammersmith 1979 is one of the best gigs Queen made !!!!
Freddie's voice was in a perfect shape.
A very great show available :
- on DVD, almost complete show, thanks to several sources
- on audio CD : soundboard recording but incomplete, or audience and quite complete recording.
Cheers,
Franck
off course hammy 1979 is better because it has all the great hits and freddie's voice reaches notes that
he hadent in all queens carrier up to that point.
but hammy 75 was good in spite of the quality but
come on the crazy tour was better.
