I've been watching the Queen on fire DVD and when I got to Somebody to love I just was so moved,I listened and watched it several times and found such a wonderful persormance by master Freddie.
The opening with him alone on the piano is thrilling. I found his voice was all full with feeling and his vocal quality just brilliant. I have to say that the opening is the part I love most because he seems to be so moved himself, but I found the whole performance just exceptional.
Is there any better performance of this song live thet you know?
I also found that Brian was kind of confused when it came to sing the choirs ...I only heard Roger and sometimes the camera shows Brian running to the micro as if he had to run to try and sing his part. That was funny anyway.
I really love Freddie's piano in this one.
What do you think?
yeah, this is personally one of my favourite live performances. I particularly like Rogers drumming. Just one aweseome song. They really should have used it more often in their live tracklists.
It's ridiculous that they dropped that song for the Magic tour. You're rightthe MKBowl version is majestic, from tha tlovely scatted intro to the powerhouse ending. I was fairly keen on the original version but live I became totally converted.
Its a great song - I'm currently trying to transcribe the opening section of piano from "Live at the Bowl" version of SbTL.
G. Michael at the Trib. Concert showed how popular it was !
I LOOOVE that. Listening to that never ceases to put me in a better mood. When he finally sings the line "somebody to love" for the first time at the end of the introduction you could tell that there was so much power in his voice. I also love when he says " are you ready? are you ready brothers and sisters?" I always want to scream YEAAAAAAAh along with the crowd, lol.
I think Freddie's Impromtu launch into the song on We Will Rock You was one of his best and his adlibs were the best of all the versions I heard so far.
