Queen's music taste..
| Onkel J 15.12.2005 07:59 |
What music did queen actualy listen to? and did they have some sort of "idols" I know that they were good friends with Elton John... Queen was by there time incomparable, but did they perhaps had any rivivals? |
| Sebastian 15.12.2005 11:08 |
Eclectic taste. All of them. |
| CC1 15.12.2005 12:32 |
Roger listens to Eminem....but I think his son likes him. His kids love Queen and all the old stuff so its a reversal of tastes. |
| DreaminQueen 15.12.2005 19:01 |
Freddie, Brian and Roger [and possibly John (?) ]were all huge Jimi Hendrix fans JIMI!!! Roger likes Eminem huh?? Thats pretty random... lol |
| Sherwood Forest 15.12.2005 19:07 |
led zepplin a lot too brian loves the beatles- |
| blerp 15.12.2005 19:13 |
Brian likes Black Sabbath and AC/DC. I think Roger too, they were both into that heavy metal scene. John was more into soul/funk that type, whatever you call it. |
| DreaminQueen 15.12.2005 19:14 |
NOICE and NOICE! The Beatles are like the second Greatest Band EVERRRRR!!! Mmmmmhh, i loves me some BEATLES! |
| Sherwood Forest 15.12.2005 19:18 |
oh and freddie hated AC DC yea i love the white album its my favorite of them all |
| DreaminQueen 15.12.2005 19:25 |
The White Albums absolutely FANTASTIC! Some really bizarre stuff on there though, like Revoultion Number 9... strange stuff... I Love Rubber Soul as well... And my Beatles Collection is growing, along with my QUEEN ALBUMS! |
| Sherwood Forest 15.12.2005 19:32 |

| faeriequeene 16.12.2005 04:44 |
roger's fave band is the beatles, and he loved jimi hendrix as did brian and freddie, one of his fave albums is the white album |
| Onkel J 16.12.2005 06:11 |
Did they have any rivivals? |
| its_a_hard_life 26994 16.12.2005 06:50 |
Brian loved The Hollies (i saw one of there albums yesterday...) |
| Sebastian 16.12.2005 07:10 |
Actually Roger wasn't such a Beatles fan. He liked them of course, but he was way more into Hendrix, Yardbirds, Cream, Led Zeppelin and John Lennon's solo career. And David Bowie. |
| FriedChicken 16.12.2005 08:07 |
In yesterdays documentary he said he only liked the later stuff from the Beatles: Revolver and Rubber Soul especially |
| tia 16.12.2005 08:16 |
Freddie liked Aretha Franklin too. |
| Fenderek 16.12.2005 08:28 |
Brian mentioned "Fire and Water" by Free as one of his favourite albums of all time long time before they joined forces with Paul Rodgers... John i thought liked Stevie Wonder. Freddie loved Prince and Boy George (no wonder his writing in 80s declined...) |
| faeriequeene 16.12.2005 12:39 |
freddie was a fan of motown stuff like the jackson 5, and of course roger loves the who, and john liked the police, nuff said. |
| April Lady05 16.12.2005 16:48 |
I wanted (and still want) to know everything possible about Brian. :) So I figured out who his favourites are (or were when he was a teenager). Now I'm trying to explore the works of these artists, some of them is familiar to me but there are a few I don't know at all. Here's my list /and my comments, too/: The Beatles /I underrated them for a long while, what a shame!/ Buddy Holly /Rock and roll performer, I saw a film about his life but I can hardly remember./ Lonnie Donnegan /Don't know who he is./ The Everley Brothers /Yet unknown for me./ Hank Marvin /Also unknown./ Smokey Robinson /Brian mentioned in an interview that his favourite song by Smokey was "Tracks of My Tears". Annie Lennox (my all-time favourite besides Brian) performed it live with Smokey too, and it's a beautiful song actually!!!/ Jeff Beck /I've been listening to his album called "Who Else!". That's an instrumental album, very similar to Gary Moore's style. Pleasant music./ Jimi Hendrix /I quite like it!/ Cream with Eric Clapton /I also like their and Eric's solo works. I noticed that Brian's "On My Way Up" gets me in the same mood as Eric's "After Midnight"./ Def Leppard /I'm not very keen on 80's rock./ Foo Fighters /I don't like them at all./ Van Halen /They have a couple of good riffs./ Status Quo /I like their songs from the 70's./ So, that's all for now I'll add more if I find something interesting! :) |

queenmeddows39 wrote: freddie was a fan of motown stuff like the jackson 5, and of course roger loves the who, and john liked the police, nuff said.THE WHO KICKS ASS! They're soo underrated around here in America though. Most of these bands are... Its really sad... |
| Ready_Coddie 17.12.2005 14:17 |
I think you get an idea of their choices in the music video of Killer Queen... Freddie loved The Jacksons & John Lennon... I remember one of his friends telling how Freddie wore Jimi Hendrix pants & mimicked him in his college days... According to his driver, he also liked Pink Floyd. Bon Scott's death affected Freddie in some I think, I read it somewhere. |
| goodco 17.12.2005 18:45 |
"Bon Scott's death affected Freddie in some I think, I read it somewhere." Yes, they all decided to never get trashed and then sleep alone in a car on a cold night. |
| Roy Queen 17.12.2005 21:20 |
I know for sure that Brian liked The Who.. I think John liked The Police... |
| DreaminQueen 17.12.2005 23:22 |
Didnt Freddie like Natalie Cole as well??? Ive read that... And didnt he like gospel music arrangements?? I believe he and Peter Strakker (spelling?) would listen to it to get ideas for writing. But John was much more into the funk/r'n'b catergory i think. |
| stateside fan 18.12.2005 19:53 |
oh my god-The Who are awful.tell me what people see in that band.they must be hysterical laughing that they sold any of this crap to us. |
| DreaminQueen 18.12.2005 20:20 |
Well thats your opinion. The Who are awesome! I suppose its an aquired taste. Me personally, i think they'er an underrated band. And they definatly outrank KISS, whats the big deal w/ Kiss?? outside of their live show??? |

The who are underated in england, but in the states they get their respect. The who are amazing. someone mentioned freddie's love of prince and boy george, Freddie's musical taste was all over the place, that's what made the man so amazing, one minute he's talking about boy george then the next minute he's praising cabelle or aretha. I don't know anyone who's musical taste varies so much. |

But yea his taste is all over the place, but its not bad, variety is good. I love all that older music, Sinatra, motown, Elvis, all the way up to some 80's rock, after that, music has taken pretty much a dive downwards. |
| Mr. Barcelona 20.12.2005 01:01 |
ok, maybe i meant anyone in queen. Brians taste was mostly who you would expect a rock guitar player to like, clapton, hendrix, beck, page, van halen, ect. freddie as a rock singer liked aretha, liza, cabelle, hendrix, plant, jackson, pavorroti, George michael, callas, ect. I don't think the average rocker's tastes varies so much. |
| DreaminQueen 20.12.2005 17:34 |
Yes, i agree. For a rocker, Freddie did have quite a variety. Thats what made him so damn great! |
| Mr. Barcelona 21.12.2005 02:17 |
yes dreamin, that I will agree with. |
| Joeker 16.02.2006 18:06 |
Wasnt Deaky into Kenny G. type stuff? |
| deleted user 16.02.2006 18:31 |
Is it true that Freddie listened to Bobby Darin and he also liked Bob Seger? Did Freddie like KISS? Why? Did Freddie like The Byrds? Did Freddie like the song that plays on the commercial for Moo and Oink? Did Freddie like the theme song from the TV show "Dff'rent Strokes"? I do. |
| Fenderek 17.02.2006 04:19 |

Freddie was into Prince? cool! |
| RETROLOVE 18.02.2006 17:03 |
Yeah...I like the theme song to different strokes too... I've really never listened to any other rock group other than Queen...I've heard of Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, The Who, The Beatles, The stones (as in Rolling stones,) etc... |

You obviously don't know crap about Prince. Boy George fans feel free to chime in. Anyway, I'm sure you could never even dream of writing lyrics as clever as Prince. His cum wads are probably 100 million times more talented than you in not only lyrical abilities but all other musical areas. |
| TheImpossibleMan 18.02.2006 17:40 |
Brian stated in an interview that (and I'm paraphrasing) "We would have gone anywhere to see The Who live". He's also stated that they were all big Who fans in other interviews. |
| mike hunt 19.02.2006 00:57 |
I'v always said Fenderek was an official idiot. In the 80's Freddie Co wrote an album called Barcelona, "creative wise" was light years ahead of Back to the light or electric fire. Freddie also loved hendrix. |

Freddies all time favourite singer is Aretha Franklin. He also liked George Michael but he said that he could have done a better version...(about the duet george did with aretha) In the same interview Freddie said he would be really proud if aretha would cover somebody to love...It's Freddies favourite queen song. |
| val 29467 02.03.2006 13:50 |
beatles... love them!!! I think all of the band likes the beatles, they are aleways going on about how the beatles are their bible... |

Yeah Prince is also one of the best. |
| Queen_Rox 04.05.2006 03:02 |
I'm sorry, I know this is an old topic, but what about Mott The Hoople? I read somewhere that Freddie Mercury was a fan of that group back then in the late '60s (and so was Brian, perhaps). |
