Am I the only one who thinks these are vile and grotesque pictures? I mean, after seeing the real thing in action earlier this year, I find it very distressing that Bri would put these pics up on his site: link View them at your peril, you might end up having nightmares of guitar funerals and the like!!!!! |

I wonder what are they gonna do with the old frets and the small pieces they're now replacing!! I would love to have at least one old fret from that guitar... TAke care |
Fenderek 14.12.2005 09:17 |
I'm sure those will be buried with Brian :) |

Yeah that and the red special will be with brian when he dies as for the pictures great to see it in pieces to see what holds it together and so forth. It's obvious the RS is in a desperate need for a mot after 40 YEARS as it has a another long journey ahead eg. usa tour a possible european tour in 2006/07 and a new album, i'm sure after all necessary work as been done it will look and sound even better. |

As a fellow guitarist and lifelong Queen fan, I found these pictures to be nothing short of amazing. The fact that Brian has gone out of his way to update people with the most minute details of his guitar being fixed, and posting pictures, is too awesome. Over the years, Brian has surely posted a lot of incredible things at his Soapbox. |

It looks to me like this overhaul on the Red Special was WAY overdue. Based on the condition of some of those parts, it's a miracle it didn't malfunction. Brian is awesome, especially in sharing that with us now. Viva Brian and the Red Special. |

That is some great stuff. I mean, it's arguably the most famous guitar in the world, and in a sense we're getting instant history courtesy of Brian. Great stuff. |
teddybear 14.12.2005 15:36 |
I think it is pretty cool to see the RS getting a "grooming" and it is cool that Brian is letting us see her "stripped down and naked" - I love the photos, makes her more real to us as fans. I don't have a problem with seeing them at all. |
Lester Burnham 14.12.2005 15:52 |
I remember being disappointed that Brian didn't pull a Pete Townshend and completely demolish his guitar, but I can see that over the years he may have been just as harsh on it - completely unintentionally, of course. |

Have to say I am surprised he didn't replace the jack plug when Greg restored it a few years ago, he was having trouble with it as far back as 82 I think. |

Apparently, theres a slight twist in the neck causing a major buzz on the top 2 strings, Ive had the truss rod adjusted but to no avail, the bottom E keeps snapping and although Ive rotated the saddles, this still keeps happening, the tremelo arm wont stay in (why wasnt it a screw in?) and to be honest, its been very disheartening! I paid £600 for a donkey. I want to keep it cos Its gorgeous and Limited Edition but not impressed. |

Brian_Mays_Wig wrote: Apparently, theres a slight twist in the neck causing a major buzz on the top 2 strings, Ive had the truss rod adjusted but to no avail,According to the guy who does my setups. He's found a lot of Burns BM's with poor quality and warped necks. Apparently mine is just about manageable but it does have a warp and it's not flat - "a bit wobbly" . He reckons there was a batch of dodgy volume pots too. N |
RMT 16.12.2005 05:23 |
I wouldn't be surprised if there were some problems with dodgy volume/tone pots. I've had trouble with mine for the last three and a half years giving buzzing and crackling despite them being thoroughly cleaned. It's still my main live guitar though and I can live with it, I just need to be careful sometimes or else I can end up with the sound getting out of control. |
Adam Baboolal 16.12.2005 09:25 |
Just as a BM guitar question - are the Brian lines of the guitars since July any better in construction? Or are similar faults still there? I was thinking of investing in one at some point next year, but these comments make me a little hesistant. Though, I must admit I've had a guitar for 4 years with crackling pots and I got by. Though warped necks and buzzing is something else entirely. Peace, Adam. |
Boy Thomas Raker 16.12.2005 10:06 |
I have an '85 Guild that cost a lot more money than the Burns did. I was always sceptical that the Burns was anywhere near the quality of the Guild at a fraction of the cost. The Burns may replicate Brian's sounds better than the Guild's, but I don't know many products in the world where high quality and low price go hand in hand. As always, you get what you pay for. |
Fireplace 16.12.2005 11:28 |
I have a Burns BM Signature and it's by far the best guitar I've had. And yes, I've had decent guitars before. It needed some adjusting out of the box (intonation, fret buzz) but right now it's very slick and comfortable, and of course it has an amazing sound. I bought it in 2001, so I suppose it's one of the old models. As far as i can tell from the many reviews I've read, the quality of the guitar depends on the individual specimen, not so much on the year of construction. I guess I was lucky. |
Sherwood Forest 16.12.2005 12:03 |
is he doing this surgery on his original because he plans to take it to the US tour ??? |
Togg 16.12.2005 12:07 |
Mine has been fine, a few tweeks out of the box but nothing serious, it was one of the first ones I think about 80-81 model number but has always preformed very well. As with buying any instrument give it a good look over first, I would not recommend buying on-line when it comes to guitars, it can be pot luck at any price. |
christeb 17.12.2005 04:54 |
Yeah, he's just doing this because of the US Tour, you guys are lucky!!!The guitar needs to be in top shape to stand up to 2 months non stop touring, and Bri says he's training to be a rock guitarist again, get the callusses built up on his fingers etc. I might have to save up for a trip to Worcester, MA.... |
