Hi folks... Just thought i'd pop in and post a topic about a very anticipated show coming up this March here in MA.....the Q+PR gig at the DCU Center in Worcester! So what i'd like to know is are there any fans here planning on traveling in special just to see the show? How about local fans right here who live in the area who are going? It seems there is a thread going everywhere about all the other shows...but nothing being said about this show. If you are going, let us know! It would be nice to have a get togther before the gig....a "Boston Tea Party" per say....:) |
Shane Jazz 11.12.2005 18:50 |
I am absolutely going, my friend. Cannot wait! I am coming from Pittsfield, Mass. Let's party, New England Queen fanatics! |

I'm going, with my two best friends, who are also Queen fanatics. We're coming from Hubbardston, MA (near Gardner), and we absolutely can't wait! A get together would be great. |

Iron Eagle... If YOU show up...AND do "SEeeXXXxxyyyY" you can have whatever you want!! Oh...and it's Revere that has the best pizza. Revere House of Pizza and The Lido in Lynn are THE best pizza ever...seriously. Last time i checked, hoagies/grinders are simply called "subs" here. Both of those names sound foriegn to me!! Ya'all need to have a frappe ( ice cream shake) or a tonic ( soda to you lot) while having your subs and bags of chips ( crisps). After that, it'll be time to Pahk yer Cah in Hahverd Yahd and read the newspaper while seagulls fly about and re-decorate your vehicle. Of course, you could have hopped on the "T" ( local public transport) and really be having a experience in the tubelines of Ol' Beantown ( Boston) but i figure newcomers may not be ready for that yet. Knocking back a few beverages of the foamy kind at some point during the day would'nt hurt either...but then again, maybe it's best we wait to do that AFTER the Show....right? After some suds ( beer), it'll be time to go to Dunks' ( Dunkin' Donuts) and suck down two cups of java ( coffee) and a few dozen donuts for a quick and soothing late night sugar rush. Going to Dunks' is a New England tradition...there's a Dunks' on every bloody corner here! It's crazy!! I'd rather have bagel shops like in NYC... Me thinks i have to learn more about the surrounding "facilities" near the DCU Center. :) |

Oh and one other thing i forgot to mention...and this time i'm being serious: If you are driving from out of state to Worcester be sure you have GOOD directions and don't trust all the roadsigns. Our roadways up here in the North are famous for being some of the most confusing and frustrating in the entire country! You have been forewarned...and yes, we have rotarys ( roundabouts) just like in the UK. Apparently MA is one of the few states who have them so all you out-of-towners will need to watch out for them. They can be a surprise to those not expecting them, and not knowing what they are all about! ...and don't even think about driving in Boston proper folks. Save yourself and your sanity by doing what the locals do...take the "T" (public transport)!!! If you are staying in Boston proper, take the Worcester train out of South Station right to the venue. South Station is easy to get to by all means of transport. If anyone needs detailed instructions give a hollar and i will post them here. More info at link. Hope to see you there! I'll save a Swan Boat for ya... |

I'm flying in to New York from the UK for the show in NYC. Was thinking about doing Worcester as well depending on how much it will cost be to travel there from NYC. Any suggestions of a good (and cheap!) way to get from NYC to Worcester? |
Sportzfan76 13.01.2006 10:24 |
You could easily travel by Bus, Amtrack (train) or by car which would be the easiest. By car you could travel from NYC to Worcester in about 5 or 6 hours. Ps. The DCU Center in Worcester (formerly the Centrum)will be a much newer, up-to-date venue compared with the Nassau collesium. |
Mr.Jingles 13.01.2006 13:08 |
I got section 1 raw 11. |
Deacons 1st Choice 14.01.2006 20:07 |
To Paul Mark: I would recommend taking a bus or Amtrak to Boston. Either way, you would end up in the City right next to South Station ( a main train station). From here, you can get a train or bus to Worcester. The CHEAPEST way of course is to just drive the 5/6 hours...but roads up here in New England are notorious for being very confusing so i tend to want to say don't bother since you are coming in from the UK. I would'nt want anyone not familiar with our mad roadways up here to become lost on the way to the show! If you can get yourself up here to South Station, you will be in good shape. More travel info can be found here: link Check out the Commuter Rail link(s) and you will see trains leave South Station for Worcester hourly in some cases. The DCU Center ( former Centrum) is not far from the Worcester train station stop...possibly even within walking distanct judging by the map. Can ANYONE here confirm this? IS the DCU actually, truly, within walking distance?? I would like to know myself as i am heading out there by train myself on the 10th. Hope the above helps you mate! |
staardust76 14.01.2006 22:36 |
Hi guys; Just to clarify: It takes about 3 hours to get from Worcester to New York by car. I personally find roads and signs very easy to follow, but the safest way of getting here for somebody from abroad would be the public transport, indeed. DCU Center is about 5 minutes of walking from the Union Station. Should be easy to get to. |
Deacons 1st Choice 14.01.2006 23:23 |
Thanks Stardust for the update....appreciate it. Streetsigns ARE easy to follow...just not always in these parts, particularly to someone from out of town. From NY to Worcester should be pretty easy....and considering we have wonderful things like Mapquest and Yahoo, etc. i suppose it can be a breeze. :) Ah...skip the car ride and take the train! It would be cool to have a trainload of Queenies going out to Worcester for the big show! Breakthru Train anyone? |

Thanks for the help guys. I have lived in the states for 6 months before so I have navigated around before. Although I do take you point that it does vary a lot from state to state :-) As I only have 4 days in the US I was thinking of flying to Boston to save time but if it only takes 3 hours by car this might be the better option. Also in my previous trips to the US I have never managed to get to Boston and I hear it is a beautiful city. I think I might end up waiting till the last minute to decide. If some great seats come on sale at the last minute (i.e. unsold Platinum seats) then I will definitely make the trip. Hopefully get to meet some of you there as I will be travelling by myself. Thanks for all your help so far! |

Hello Paul.. I would highly recommend a trip up here to Boston. The venue is lightyears better then the NY venue and the City itself has a lot to see and do. You can usually grab a cheap flight from Newark to Boston pretty easily...If you fly out of NY it might be pricier. I'm sure someone here has more expeience in this area, maybe they can post some airtravel tips. Check the travel sites like Travelocity or CheapTickets...they usually have some decent deals. Yes, i am certain that there WILL be tickets for sale a few days before the show. This is always the case, even for the most sought-after events. So many folks scoop some unbeleivable seats right before the show. Don't be afraid to wait it out! You are'nt alone! Hope to see you up here. Nothing quite beats Boston-area Queen Fans! See ya there! |

You're right, Boston has always been very receptive to Queen, and the fans are some of the best. Now we gotta set up where to meet before/after the show! |
Deacons 1st Choice 17.01.2006 20:27 |
The fan following in Boston is absolutely HUGE! I've covered this in the past in other threads..but in a nutshell Queen "started" in Boston as far as the States go. It was local radio stations that played the first single ( KYA) way back in 73'. The song was pretty much unheard of until that happened. The thriving college community got behind it and Queen became huge here before anyone really "knew" them at that point. It's been the same ever since... In 82' the Mayor of Boston proclaimed it "Queen Day" on the day of the Band's concert at the Garden. This was a huge event..the fans are still taking about it! The Band was presented with a official certificate that was later published in the OIQFC mag. It would later come to light that this date was the LAST time Queen played live in Boston. In March of 93'The Boston Herald ( a major newspaper here) featured Brian May on the front cover the day of his first solo appearence. I'll never forget seeing that...talk about support! What other major US newspaper puts Brian May on the front cover? BOSTON BABY!! :) Can't wait to see what happens this March. The word is out and it's strong. It's still such a shame they could'nt secure a venue actually IN the city proper. The Garden would have been AWESOME for a return triumph, but i'll take Worcester. Hey, at least they are back in Ma! Meetup...yes! I say let's all meet up at the Omni Park Plaza Hotel right in the heart of the city. It's easy for anyone to get and it's steeped in Queen History. I beleive they have a resturant in there as well...perhaps a little pre-show Lunch before the gig? I would be up for that...anyone interested in taking the MBTA Commuter Rail to Worcester give a a hollar. Perhaps there will be a group going via train and they can all meet up at the Parker House. Anyone else who lives locally feel free to make suggestions. There are many excellent places to hang out in the city. Zoom ahead 24 years..and here we are today! |
Deacons 1st Choice 17.01.2006 21:26 |
Here's the link to the Parker House's site. Be sure to check out all the related link as it features some neat info about the city itself as well as travel directions and info. link |
Deacons 1st Choice 17.01.2006 21:36 |
The hotel does have a fancy resturant and a bar in the lobby! Woo Hoo! On the website it seems to imply these are for hotel guest use...as in not for the general public's use. It's not clear...further investigation may reveal more. Back in the early touring days when Queen did their first two tours here they would often stay at the Parker House. It's probably most famous for being the place where Brian awoke one morning feeling absolutely awful and it came to light that he had hepetitus. The rest of the tour was cancelled due to his health and he had to fly home to spend a period of time in hospital. It was during that period the foundings for the classic Queen Album "SHA" was created..and Brian wrote "Now I'm Here" from his hospital bed! |

staardust76 wrote: Hi guys; Just to clarify: It takes about 3 hours to get from Worcester to New York by car....Sorry to disagree, if you can drive from anywhere in NY to Worcester MA in 3 hours i would hire you as my personal chauffer. 3 hours - not gonna happen. |
staardust76 19.01.2006 21:17 |
Depends on how you drive. It's about 180 miles from Worcester to my uncle's, who lives in Queens. 3 hours is approximate estimate. Even in traffic it's closer to 3 hours than 4. However, it is 4 hours if you take a bus. It is even less when you drive at night. It's not that I am interested in becoming your chauffer, but 2 weeks ago I went down to Poughkeepsie (which is well into New York State territory) to see Almost Queen (high recommendations!). The show ended about 1:15 and I got back to Worcester by 4. Needless to say I'd rather come 1 hour ahead of time, than be 10 minutes late. So plan your trips wisely. Cheers! |
Paul Mark 23.01.2006 06:13 |
To Deacons 1st Choice: I am almost definitely going to make the trip to Boston. Planning on booking flights and hotels this week. Would you suggest staying in Boston or Worcester? How easy is it to travel between the 2? If I stay in Boston which is a good area to stay in? Thank for you all your help :-) |
Deacons 1st Choice 27.01.2006 20:42 |
Hello Paul! First off, i'm really glad you have decided to come up to Boston! I think you will be happy that you did, as Worcester is going to ROCK! I suppose it's up to you where you stay, but i will say this: i do not have any experience staying in Worcester. There are a few hotels near the venue...one of them ( Hampton Inn) looks to be within walking distance. I also do not know what the area is around those parts..some have told me in the past it can be a tough place at night. Boston i am very familiar with and can safely say most of the areas the major hotels are in are fine. I have never had any problems with safety in Boston itself. Worcester though...well, i have heard things. If someone here reading has been to the area and the venue out there in Worcester it would be great to hear from you! I myself would like to know what i am getting myself into! I suppose if you survive NY ( i did! ) then anything up here will be a piece of cake.... I myself am still trying to decide wether or not i should stay at a hotel in Worcesterafter the show, or just hop the last train to Boston and grab a cab home from there. I'm undecided. As far as accommidations go in the city itself, Boston has a lot of hotels, many are very nice and the prices usually reflect this. It is worth looking on the travel websites like link and the like to check out their hotel listings. Often such sites give you a good deal on a hotel room. I have used Travelocity for most of my 'adventures" related to Queen and i have'nt been disspointed yet. If you stay in the City, you can easily take public transportation to South Station and catch a commuter rail train to Worcester. From there, it looks to be a short walk to the venue. I say looks to be as i have never been there in person, this is based on photo maps i've looked at online. The DCU Center ( previously named Worcester Centrum) is a major venue so it's not hard to get to by car either if you would rather drive. Directions can be found on link or even Yahoo has a directions service now i think. Driving tims varies, but on the average i would say about 45 mins to an hour to reach Worcester from Boston proper. If you need further details let me know. Hope this helps! My plan is to take the train to Worcester the day of the show..hang out, view the show, and then either stay up the road at a hotel or return via train back to Boston. I'm sure i won't be the only one doing this! |

Deacons 1st Choice 01.02.2006 21:33 |
Couple blocks....i am wondering if this is the place i was thinking about staying at. Probably, as there is'nt much in the immediate area and i needed a place within walking distance. Mr. Jingles, do you know if this hotel IS indeed within waling distance from the venue? I have looked at a photo map and it looks close, but not so close it's obvious that the hotel is truly within a short walk. I was terribly misled regarding the hotel i stayed in NJ. This was stated as being within "walking distance" from the venue and it took a half hour to walk! I should have stayed at the Hampton Inn! |
phoenix_surprise! 02.02.2006 19:56 |
Unexpectedly, I'm going to be in my hometown (Worcester) on the day of the show. Has anyone discussed meeting someplace for dinner/party before the show? There is a small club "The Plantation Club" that used to have a great Queen tribute band. Might be a suitable location, unless more eating than drinking is required. I'll be at the Crowne Plaza. It is further from the venue than the Hampton Inn. You can walk the distance if you are fit. It has a lounge. I'm not going to the show unless I break down and buy a last-minute single ticket. I've been to LA and have tickets for Phoenix. 5th row floor seats are still available on Ticketmaster for Phoenix. Yikes. Worcester looks much closer to being sold out. |
Deacons 1st Choice 02.02.2006 20:08 |
Hi Phoenix Surprise... Thanks for posting that info. So the Hampton Inn is closer to the venue are you saying? If so, is this the hotel that is within decent walking distance? I am trying to decide on a hotel and need the one closet to the DCU. Since this is your hometown, also i wanted to ask if this area where the hotels/venue are located is a "good" area...meaning, a safe area one can walk back to a hotel late at night and not get bothered? I am curious about this. I am sure many fans who have gone in to Worcester via train to catch a show at the DCU have done what i am planning to do..i just don't have the experience out there yet! Any clues, info, insights would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! :) |
phoenix_surprise! 03.02.2006 17:48 |
My comments are, of course, just one woman's opinion. We all have different personal safety threshholds. I believe the Hampton Inn is a somewhat closer walk than from the Crowne Plaza. I can confirm that more after my trip there in the next couple of weeks, or maybe calling the hotels would help you. I would not want to walk alone from the venue to the hotel after the concert. The venue is in a well-lit downtown area, but the walk back would likely be dark and empty and not through a nice residential neighborhood. If you are in a group, you would be more comfortable. Worcester is not a vibrant metropolis, but a very old, decaying industrial town with pockets of revitilization. There are taxis available. |
Deacons 1st Choice 03.02.2006 22:21 |
Thank you Phoenix... Your comments are what i was afraid of..but then again i am used to walking alone late at night through strange towns! Consider my experience in NJ...i left the venue around 1am and had to walk quite a ways to the inn i was staying at along a long streach of highway! NOT fun....exspecially when someone was following me halfway from the venue. This happened as there were no taxis around at that late hour ( i did'nt have any local taxi #'s and i did'nt have a cell phone). The other unfortunate event was that the hotel i was staying at was NOT at all 'within walking distance" from the venue as stated in there adverts. I was hoping i would'nt have to go through this again ( WHY oh WHY could'nt QUeen have gotten the Garden in the city??? DAMN SPORTING EVENTS!!) Argh! You are correct though...Hampton Inn is the one i remember looking to be the closet to the DCU last time i looked at a map. |
Mr.Jingles 03.02.2006 22:36 |
I hear you Deacon's first choice... I'm just a bit aware of what goes on at places I've never been to. I remember once I went to an Elton John concert in Trenton, NJ not knowing that it was one of the cities with the highest crime rates in the country. Nothing bad happened, but I sure was scared of the place. |
turini 04.02.2006 14:21 |
worcester is not the best city as far as crime but if you stay in the remote area of dcu center you will be fine. also i live in clinton which is about 10 miles from there and if some one was to want to have hotel in boston and go to worcester the best bet would be using the T train but worcester-boston is not a real good driving distance if you want to be on time |
Deacons 1st Choice 04.02.2006 21:39 |
Hi Turni.... My plan is to do just what you had suggested: Go to Worcester via the T commuter train and walk to the hotel from there ( if this is do-able...i am still wondering!). From there i will go to the venue for the show. Afterwards, stay overnight at a hotel ( Hampton Inn maybe..) and the next morning take the train back to Boston. It would have been so much easier if they were able to get the Garden which is in the heart of Boston. It is so bloody easy to get there and back, and so simplified to grab a local hotel. You are also surrounded by great areas of interest and resturants/entertainment complexes. There is nothing even remotely like this in the area in Worcester where this show is that i know of, and thats little at this point! i REALLY really wish the Band was able o sqeeze in at the Garden. Ah but maybe next time! :) |
turini 05.02.2006 08:26 |
the dcu center is not the worst locale ever it is probably the second best in massachusetts behind the garden. your plan sounds good but make sure you get a copy of the T schedule because they are EXACTLY on time and they do run through the night so you wouldnt even have to stay at a hotel possibly :) |
Deacons 1st Choice 05.02.2006 17:50 |
Yeah...good advice. I have been considering just saying to heck with it and hop the train right after the show like others going will probably do. It kills me to hole up in a hotel in my home state! My only concern about leaving right after the show is that in the past i usually get out very late as i tend to stay around long after the show is over. I will know more when the date gets closer. I don't even have a ticket yet...but i'm not worried about that. :) |

But Hampton Inn is OK too. I don't have a ticket yet either...just need 1 ... you last minute folks - are you going to try to get it on ticketmaster - or at the box office? Have any of you been in the DCU Center lately? It's been a long while since I've been and I was wondering how are the views? I'll be in section 235, will I be able to see the show well? |

Hi, I will be there, saw both NJ and Hollywood shows. Staying at Crowne Plaza. Does anyone know how the floor seats #'s are for DCU? For instance floor 3, row L, seat 1, is that next to catwalk or furthest away? I couldn't get a straight answer from AA and the people at DCU gave me different answers. Gonna love it either way,but would like to know. Thanks |

Paul Mark 28.02.2006 06:11 |
Tickets for the floor are available at ticketmaster now. Row T - Floor 2. I dont know whether to buy or wait for even better seats..... Any advice? I'm in a bit of a dilemma! |
JMIV 28.02.2006 19:10 |
I bought my tix weeks ago and "best available" were in section 235 row L, now there are Floor tix available? WTF?! |
Hooligan's Holiday 28.02.2006 19:15 |
I KNOW! I'm in like row 220, and now you can get seats in like ROW 3??? WHAT THE...? |
lilyofthevalley39 01.03.2006 00:08 |
I bought tickets the second they went on sale, and got Floor 3, row L, seats 12-14. When I went on ticketmaster the other day, I saw floor 1, row D, seats 1-3 available for the same price that I paid 2 months ago!! It's pretty crappy how that happens, since people who wait until the last minute can get better seats than those who bought them right when they went on sale. Oh well, I still have great seats, and I'm going to have a good time no matter what! See you all there! |
Deacons 1st Choice 01.03.2006 13:40 |
No surprises here folks.....i've mentioned before that sometimes the best seats are availible week of show! Does'nt anyone remember that during the previous show rounds, all the early birds ended up with lousy seats and the ones who waited week of show or even day of show scored some choice tickets? Guess nobody remembers...it was a hard lesson for many but some of us learned from that experience. Best seats are availble right before the show, as all the promo/radio station prizes/guest list tickets are then given up and sent back to the venue. So for those of you who have decided to wait until the last minute....chances are you will get some awesome seats! |
phoenix_surprise! 02.03.2006 11:21 |
Got my seat this week at the box office. Row J section 2 (I believe) - first row right in front of the end of the catwalk. Just proving that waiting is better. But I wouldn't have had the nerve to wait if I didn't already have my Phoenix tickets. |
Deacons 1st Choice 02.03.2006 19:07 |
Nice work Phoenix....congrats on the great seats! Next week we should see even better seats up...if the past is anything to go by, the first two rows go up week of show. This is already happening at one of the Fl gigs...it pays to wait! I'm taking the train from Boston tomorrow out to the wilds of Worcester. I need to check out the area as i have too many questions that are still unanswered: Hotel, venue area, resturants, all of this in relation to the actual venue. I want to be sure i am not getting myself into a crazy situation and that access to the train depot, the hotel, and the venue is all do-able via walking. I will post a full lowdown when i return tomorrow night for anyone interested. I will also more then likely be stopping by the DCU Box Office and see what's availble for Tickets. It's always better to buy in person whenever possible, and since i'm going to be out there anyway to check out the location of things, i'd be mad not to inquire. Again, i will note anything interesting in a future post. And to Paul: You had asked about if you should grab the floor seats that are up now. It's your personal choice my friend, but if you can hold on until next week i think you may find that even better seats come up...maybe even the first couple of rows. I'd feel bad though if you DID wait and lost out on a good seat...it's hard to know what to do in a case like this. It's up to you.... I'll hopefully have some more info tomorrow night after my little excursion. If anyone has any questions post them here and maybe i can answer them. :) |
Deacons 1st Choice 02.03.2006 19:50 |
Just an update on Floor Seats... Ticketmaster is no longer listing them. As of now, they seem to not be availble. Paul, did you decide to buy that great seat in Floor Section 2, row T? Someone did.....hope it was you! Awesome seat! |
Still Rockin 02.03.2006 20:19 |
Been checking Ticketmaster all week, every few hours, never saw anything closer than row j, floor 1 or 124 cc. I did see those floor 2, but needed at least 3. Just my opinion, but it looks like AA gold seats got released first. Am hoping some of the platinum go next. I did see AA stopped selling everything last week. This reminds me of waiting all night at the Garden for Queen tickets to go on sale. Actually, That was kind of fun. Met a bunch of fellow diehards. Jeez, I am getting old, almost 30 years ago. Then again, How lucky I am to share the magic of Queen with my kids!!! |
Deacons 1st Choice 02.03.2006 21:59 |
Ah yes...the good ol' days when you wanted to get great tickets....you had to sleepover at the venue's boxoffice so you would be there in the morning the minute they opened! Talk about dedication....but the best part was you actually were pretty much guarenteed amazing tickets as back then it usually was literally first come, first rows! I think modern times have spoiled the "fun" of lining up to secure good seats. Now it's all a maddening game with no guarentees it seems...even so called "pre-sales" cannot ( and most often don't) guarentee great seats. Now it seems that those that buy their tickets first for a show often end up with lousy choices, while Joe Blow who decides on a whim to go to a show a few days before gets front row! Ha ha ha....you just have to laugh about stuff like this sometimes....oh the irony in it all! Well, let's put it this way: No matter WHAT seats you have or how close or far away from the action you are in a venue it does'nt really matter. YOU ARE THERE and partaking in this momumental event. This is what's so great about Queen music in particular...it brings people together. The experience i had in NJ this past September will not leave me anytime soon...i'm still stunned at the absolute electric enviroment it was those few seconds before the show actually started. Anyone here who was there knows the moment i'm talking about. It was one of the most incredible experiences as everyone there was so pumped and so anixous in a good way. It was clear that this was felt by everyone, not just those in the Floor Seats. What a night...i'm getting all emotional again while typing this remembering that night. Brilliant stuff!! |
Paul Mark 03.03.2006 04:44 |
Deacons 1st Choice - no I didnt but the ticket :-(. I got a bit too greedy... but I'm still hoping something will happen. I have pretty good seats for the New York show so the worst that could happen is that I have to buy a ticket on the night! Right now I am checking ticketmaster every hour or so :-D |
Deacons 1st Choice 03.03.2006 19:47 |
Okay Paul...maybe i'll see you in line then! I just returned home from the wilds of Worcester. After a hour 1/2 train ride, two subways, and two buses ( both ways each!) i'm knackered. It was a long day, but well worth the trip out there to western MA...all of my questions were answered. I'm very happy with the situation out there...it's a very good vibe i'm getting from the surroundings. Dare i say it, but i now feel that perhaps it IS better that they had the show booked for the DCU then the Garden. What a handsome venue this place is! The fast facts: The Hampton Inn is literally within sight of the venue. This was my main concern as i will be taking the train out from Boston for this show and staying overnight. I really needed to know if this place really was within walking distance. Thankfully it is...what a great location! I did not have time to walk up the street to the Crowne Plaza, but it is a little further down the road. Next, and this will be a treat for those coming in by train like i will be....the Worcester train station. As you approach the station, it has spires that look remarkably like the old Wembley Towers! I had a big smile on my face seeing these..it was a complete surprise as i have never been out there before until today. Very neat "Queen" connection there to greet you. The other notable sight was as i was walking up the main road from the train station to the venue, on the left is a place called the Bijou Theatre! How ironic is that? The DCU is visable from the train depo, and also from the Hampton Inn. The area is actually much better then i was expecting. It's very nice actually, and is well laid out for walkers and folks like me who travel everywhere with our feet. I was very pleased to see this. It took me 15 minutes tops to walk from the train depo to the venue, hotel, and back to the depo again. I was very happy to find out everything was so incredibly close! Yay!! Now i feel a lot better about this location, and i'm finally able to start getting serious about going to see what will no doubt be an even better show then NJ was. Speaking of the show...i was NOT able to go into the Box Office while i was at the DCU to inquire about tickets. The train schedule is not that great so when i arrive i only had a very short 20 minute window to check out the location. I did however take note of the marquee. There are two i saw, one at eah end of the building and they are both boldly advertsiing the upcoming show. I found it surprising though that it is being worded as "QUEEN"....no mention of Paul! Sheesh...poor Paul, i hope he does'nt see those marquees. I am definately going if i can secure a nice seat. I am going to wait until next week and see what happens. Hopefully my therory regarding last minute ticket sales will pay off! :) |

Thanks for the info. I am now waiting up (its 00:50 here in the UK) for news of the Miami setlist. How sad am I :-) |
Deacons 1st Choice 03.03.2006 20:04 |
Not sad at all my friend...not at all. I'll keep you company! In a way, i don't want to know everything that went on as i am one of these people who like to be "surprised" when i go to the show. Even though we learned recently that the set list is slated to be changed around a lot this time out, the less i know the better for me night of show. Paul, i think that floor seat we were looking at was bought by a tout. I noticed the night it was no longer listed a ticket very close to it was up on Ebay here! I was curious so had a peek....$300 USD ( approx 150 pounds!) Crikey! |
turini 03.03.2006 20:05 |
hey guys cant wait i was just wondering if any one knew how fat catwalk went out? i am in row N on the floor and was hoping to be part of the catwalk |
Paul Mark 03.03.2006 20:06 |
Its a brave tout to buy that ticket with so many other tickets still unsold at the moment! But like I said before I will be happy just to be at the show - if I end up getting a great seat too that will just be bonus :-) |
Deacons 1st Choice 03.03.2006 20:13 |
Hard to know for sure at this point...i think after tonights gig in Miami fans' will be posting details about the stage, etc. ( in response to earlier question about the catwalk placement in relation to certain rows) I'm sure then folks will be able to more acurately guess where they are in relation to the catwalk. Here's something that i was thinking of last night while mulling over today's Worcester excursion.....why are'nt concert tickets ever sold like ariline tickets today are? I mean seriously...anyone who travels and has booked a flight online is aware of how you can now see a completely accurate floor plan, seat by seat, of the plane and make your seat selection based on this. Why can't concert bookings be the same way? It would solve a LOT of issues many fans have been dealing with over the years...plus ensure a more "fair" way of tickets being sold to those who really want them per say. This just dawned on me recently, and it makes perfect sense. I think it would really be a asset to not only the bands, but the venue as well as it would insure that everyone buying tickets would know exactly WHERE they are and be MORE THEN HAPPY to pay whatever amount they so choose knowing this info! In today's day and age, geometric shapes representing a venue's floor plan is mad! Sorry...i'm having a rant.... |
Still Rockin 03.03.2006 21:14 |
Deacon 1 Thanks for checking out the area. Sounds good. Great idea for ticket sales!!! Makes sense to me. |
Deacons 1st Choice 03.03.2006 21:27 |
You're welcome.... I was pleasently surprised. Up to this point i have always heard that Worcester is not really an area one would rather not find themselves in at night but i don't get that feeling at ALL having checked out the area in the venues immediate area. I wish i had more then 20 minutes to look around! The trains don't run very regularly out that far west, and you only have a 25 minute turn around time before your return train leaves! Originally i was going to be there an hour, but the schedule kind of threw me at first and i did'nt end up being there that long in the end. Oh well, it was brief but i left very relieved and happy. I was concerned about this...as i'd rather not be walking back to a hotel after a show in a area that is not safe for such activities. So rest assured...if you are staying at the Hampton Inn, you are in a awesome spot! One of the things i did'nt get to see was any of the resturants in the immediate area. There is a huge indoor shopping complex right next to the venue, along with a huge parking garage. Inside this shopping complex are several quick service places. There are also many clubs in the area close by i am told by locals. There is also a grocery store ajacent to the Hampton Inn for all you supply must-haves. Again, time did not allow me to explore further...but on the sattelite image i brought for map useage, it was right behind me when i saw the hotel. Any locals feel free to add further details! |
Shane Jazz 03.03.2006 22:01 |
Thanks a ton, Deacon's 1st Choice, I will now be taking your word for it and book myself a night at the Hampton Inn. I was gonna do a similar scouting mission on Wednesday. As for Worcester being Western Mass., no way, I am in Western Mass.! (two hours to the west) lol Thanks again, my friend. |
Deacons 1st Choice 03.03.2006 23:19 |
Ha ha...very well ShaneJazz. Worcester to me is "western MA" only becuase i live on the North Shore, right next to the ocean practically! Anything inland is "out west" to me! Ha! :) I'm very happy to hear that i have helped you out! I said to myself today on the long train ride home that if what i post tonight helps but ONE person that would be wonderful. Rest assured the Hampton Inn is the place. Sure it's a little more money to stay there then the Crowne Plaze down the road, but if you are walking like i will be, you have to ask yourself if you REALLY want to be walking down a long street in the middle of the night from the venue to your room. I know i sure did'nt...that's why i went out there today. I could'nt get a staight answer regarding how close exactly the hotels were. Maps are a guide, but no guarentee. I learned the hard way when i went out for the wonderful NJ show.... Picture this: The hotel i was staying at there was noted on it's website that it's "within close walking distance from the venue..". Great...so i book. Come to find out months later when i arrive for the show, it's waaay down the road from the arena and there are huge gaps of open ground to be covered. Add to this no sidewalks, and the fact you had to walk right on a major highway. There is a bus route ( public transport)but NO STOPS near the venue! How crazy is this? So i ended up having to have to walk back to my hotel after the show around 1 am along this major highway where anyone could have pulled over and jumped me. There were no cabs at the venue at that time of night...everything was deserted! It was a scary experience...and i'm one who is used to traveling alone and walking everywhere to get where i want to go. The difference here was the enviroment, the areas i had to traverse through ( could have been worse though..) and the time factor in actually getting back to the hotel! I was misled by not only the hotels word, but also the maps i had looked at. Argh...it rattled me a bit once i realized the crazy risk i took that night after i left the arena so i swore next time to research more intensely. Hampton Inn is in a great spot as far as relation to the venue. I will stay there too if i do end up getting a ticket. I can't stress how impressed i was with the venue. I was'nt expecting much, as again i have always been led to beleive Worcester was not a nice place to be. I know it was remodeled recently and it shows big time. Very handsome building and it puts the current Boston Garden ( aka FleetCenter) to shame. Roll on March 10th! I think it's pretty neat that the last time Brian May was in this area it was about this time of year in 93'. Guns n' Roses played the original Boston Garden ( the REAL one!!)on St. Patty's Day in 93' and the BM Band supported. Interesting night....and very surprising too. |
Shane Jazz 03.03.2006 23:54 |
Thanks again, Deacon's 1st choice, it is truly appreciated. I, too, miss the old, real Garden. I never got to see a concert there, and that is a huge regret. But, being a huge B's fan, I got to see Cam and Ray a few times there. What an atmosphere. But it is indeed encouraging to hear of your enthusiasm for the DCU Center. I also heard not so flattering things about Worcester and it's arena (then referred to as The Spectrum). But I could not possbibly be more excited for next Friday. Can you believe it's almost here? And what do you think of tonight's setlist? I wasn't gonna peek at it, but who was I kidding, of course I was gonna look. It is good to see Dragon Attack in there. If any state deserves a gem dusted off, it's Massachusetts. Boston was always a huge supporter of Queen in the early days, right through to the Hot Space tour, when they were given the keys to the city. So let's hope Bri and Roger remember that and dust off It's Late or KYA. See ya soon! |
phoenix_surprise! 04.03.2006 10:20 |
Turini: I am in row J and was told it is the first one in front on the catwalk in section 2. RE Crowne Plaza ... I have been staying there for 3 weeks now and I can assure you it is only 2 blocks from the DCU. Now the DCU has a pretty big foot print so it depends what door you're going out. I think the Crowne is nicer and I've got a $99/night rate by saying I want the UMass rate. UMass Memorial is a big hospital/medical school complex in Worcester and lots of people come in to do business or to visit a patient. Still, I agree, no problem with the Hampton Inn, where I also stayed last month. Worcester, Western MA?? Hee hee! Off to Holyoke I go tomorrow to visit family... |
Deacons 1st Choice 04.03.2006 18:59 |
Hey there Shane...i'm with you man! I also said to myself that i was'nt going to "spoil" the surprise by peeking at the setlist last night...but, well...i did. I spent about 3 hours on QOL as there was a huge live "party" on there in the Miami thread. We had folks from all over on there posting live responses to fans news who were at the show! It was fun, and after coming back from Worcester last night i was so pumped i needed a good amount of time to come down. The QOL event was just the thing.. Funny you should comment about how if any city in the US should get a rare gem in the setlist it should be Boston. Not too long ago i posted a very similar speil...maybe it was this thread? No wait...it was somewhere on QOL. Well anyway, i made all the same points you did. It has been acknowledged in print and by BM that Boston was THE first US city to really break for Queen in the early days. We're talking waaaayyy back folks, right at the beginning in 1973 with "KYA". Boston radio stations started playing this classic back then when the rest of the US had not even heard it yet! I call that some serious support. Boston was always a huge Queen City. The Band used to base themselves here during East Coast tours in the early tours years. All of there concerts were major city-wide events. Support here was always positive. I think part of the reason why Queen were so huge here was we have all our famous colleges, including Berklee college of music. All these smart kids know what band rocks and has some creative edge...heh heh! Most people have heard about the famous "Queen Day" held in the Band's honor here in 1982 the day of their Hot Space tour stop at the Garden. The were presented not only with the keys to the City by the Mayor, they were also given a handsome official proclimation certificate with a gold seal. This was shown in one of the Official Fan Club mags shortly later on. It was a awesome thing...and for a US city to hold a "Queen Day" was pretty incredible. Of course this day also turned out to be the LAST time Queen proper would play live in the Boston area sadly. Even once the Band decided not to tour here anymore, Boston was still a hard-core Queen Mecca. When "I Want It All" was issued as a single here, that's all you ever heard on the popular local radio stations. Even "Radio Ga Ga" was played here a LOT back in the day and the video was in heavy rotation on Boston area video channels. These of course were all local stations...so this is why we were given a healthy dose of Queen when the rest of the country seemed to be Queen-less as far as new material being broadcast in the late 80's. Whenever Brian was in town, the local Classic Rock radio station WZLX would clamour for him to appear. Brian went on a few radio tours in the US in the early 90's and passed through here a couple of times which was fantastic. The support he recieved was incredible, and i think even he was surprised at the intensity at that point in time ( 1991 thru 1993). I think what best sums it up though is when Guns n' Roses toured with the Brian May Band. They played the Boston Garden ( the REAL one!! YAY!) on St. Patricks Day 1993 and a day or two before the show the Boston Herald had Brian's photo on the FRONT COVER! Yes, amazing as that is....there he was on the front page of the 2nd largest newspaper in NE. It was brilliant!!! What other US city has done this?? Brian MAY on the front cover of the local newspaper with a ligit story and not some gossip? It was wonderful to see, as it reconfirmed to me that the City still has such incredible respect for these guys. Sadly i have yet to have seen anything this time around....but i'll admit i have'nt been looking at many papers or listening to the usual radio stations. I know we will see a HUGE turnout for the Worcester show. Would'nt it be rather appropriate if the DCU show was |

Well that's just the thing....it's NOT in the city! I was a little dissapointed when the date was annouced and it turned out DCU was the venue. I SO wanted to see Queen return to Boston proper in glory at the Garden. It would have once again excited the city and no doubt created a serious buzz locally there. Part of the reason i think its been quiet this time around is the fact the show is NOT in Boston but Worcester. Everyone from the city that can make the 45+ minute trip out to the DCU will be there i'm sure. It would have been SO MUCH more intense though if it was in the city. Now that i have actually seen the area where the show is actually happening, and left the venue feeling very good about it, i now feel that it may have worked out better then i originally thought. THe DCU looks fantastic...and i think this will be a HOT show. The Garden looks like a dump by comparison from the outside..i can only guess at what the DCU is like now on the inside. It has however had a huge makeover so i would expect it to be just as impressive, if not maybe even more impressive, then the Garden. My only worries at the moment though are these: Weather--it's freezing up here and there is always the fear of a snow storm hitting next week. The Band---hopefully they will be full of energy. The next few shows before Worcester are all one right after the other ( no days off). That has to have an effect on your performance. I was thinking of this when i first saw the dates released in December. And lastly... A ticket!-----Yeah...i'm still holding out for next week to see what comes up, if anything. I'm still going out regardless i'm sure, but it would be nice to know i actually have a seat before arriving. |

It's a shame that Queen + PR come here in the cold of winter. Imagine them playing in Boston at Fenway Park? That venue would sell out not only for the band but for seeing a concert in the hallowed halls of Fenway. Ah well, it's nice to dream! |

Turini, Actually, according to what it seems, you will be on the other side of catwalk from Floor 1 and the Floor 3 seat #'s will start on your side with seat #1 being the closest to the catwalk. On Floor 1 side, they would start away from catwalk(near lower section seats) with #1 being furthest and working upwards in #'s until the catwalk. It sounds like you will be right there!!! I bought from Artist arena as soon as they went on sale and it seems it was the luck of the draw what I ended up with. Enjoy the show!!! |

Hopefully i'll be able to buy some at the box office the day of or find someone with an extra ticket. Is it possible to buy tickets the day of and still get good seats? I only need one. I'm kind of scared to go into Worcester by myself!Hello Jackie! Don't be nervous...the area of Worcester where the show is being held is actually decent. If you read my previous posts on Page 5, i note my recent experience checking out the area this past Friday. You have nothing to worry about, as the town will be packed with Queen Freaks. Are you driving in, or taking the train in from the city? I am just like you. I have waited until the last possible moment to purchase a ticket. I am hoping i will find a nice one. You should be able to still buy tickets at the Box Office right up until showtime....that is unless the show is a sell out but i doubt that would happen in this case. I mean, if the momumental NJ show was NOT a sell-out, then neither will Worcester. My plan is to wait and see what is availible online right up until the night before. I may very well just wait and buy directly at the venue. No matter sort of seat i end up with, it won't matter too much as just being there will be worthwhile in itself. I was at the NJ show and the entire day leading up to the actual show that night was fantastic. I will never forget that experience..it was a very special show for me on many levels. Yes, the latest weather forcast for MA this Friday is Springlike weather! YESSss!!! We are talking 60 degrees which is "warm" in these parts at this time of year. Dress light, but bring a sweatshirt definately or a light coat. Southerners traveling up for the gig should dress heavy...it will feel chilly to you trust me! Speaking of such....who here is traveling from out of state to see this particular show? I have a feeling this show will be special.....can not wait!!!! Yes, a "tailgate" party would be fab. I while back i suggested a get together in Boston but it seemed that not many responded or simply were'nt staying in the city itself. That's ok...its just i am not familiar with Worcester and the area around the venue very well to immediately suggest a suitable spot. There IS however a large parking lot behind the DCU that could be a possible location. I do not know what their policy is though regarding tailgating is though....i wouldnt want anything negative to happen to anyone on this grand day out. There is also areas between the venue and the train station that are like public downtown areas that would be suitable for gathering. Again, i do not know if there would be rule breaking going on if we set up camp here to party down pre-show.... Worse comes to worse, we could all just meet in front of the DCU main entrance ( on Foster ST.) at a pre-determined time and hang out there, or then decided where to go from there. There is also a large shopping complex across from the venue that has many resturants ( quick-serve style) and i assume shops. Again, this is info i have gathered in my quest to learn as much as a can in a short amount of time...its not from personally being there! I'm very excited though and i have'nt even booked a room or bought a ticket yet! Crazy...i know....and it's not like me at all to put things off like this. I'm not nervous though.....something good will come of all this i'm sure. Hopefully my therory of waiting to buy tix close to the date will prove to be successfull. I heard many times in the past about the best seats going up day of show. We'll see....:) |

I am coming up from CT., not too far from the Palace Theater in Waterbury, where Queen played several times back in the early days. Hope we can set something up similar to NJ. That was quite an experience. It really got you pumped up for the show. |

Yes it did!! The NJ Tailgate will live on in Queen infamey i think....it truly was a fantastic event and a great way to burn off some overflowing edreniline. I was flustered with it. It was awesome...a TOTAL Queen-Out/ Be-In/ Be-There! There was even Queen adverts in the Port-a-Potty.....anyone else see those? Seriously....someone has put some up! |

Good question. I would say everyone meet up outside of the venue around 6 ish. Sound good? From there i guess we can decided what we would like to do as a group then. I am glad Roxanne and a few others have found this thread. I was going to start on on QOL as that is where i spend most of my time there when compared to here but there did'nt seem to be any interest. This is where the thread seemed to take off, so i continued to add to it here at QueenZone. Yes, Friday is going to freaking ROCK HARD! I cannot express the excitement i am feeling right at this moment. If the Band is concerned about there not being enough excitement being generated about these US shows then i have to say it's not entirely true. For the long time fans, this is VERY exciting in many ways....and for the most part i have seen absolutely NO promotion whatsoever up here. However, it seems that those who need to know, KNOW...which is great! Worcester is going to be a packed house, full of VERY enthused fans. Nobody rocks like Boston...and they will soon be reminded of that! Woo hoo....here comes WorcesterWonderland!! |

So 6PM it is folks... Ya hear that everyone?? Worcester Meet Up! Meet in front of the DCU Center around 6pm to get this party started! Wear your finest Queen finery ( cool shirts people!) to be instantly spotted by others! Be a standout! Let's give Queen a fantastic and worthy welcome to there old home in MA! Yeah, it's not Boston proper but it's as close as we get this time around. Be thankfull for this day...we are VERY VERY lucky to have them performing in MA! Brian seems a little glum at the lack of excitement US cities have been showing them ( no posters?? LET"S MAKE OUR OWN!! Bring em' to the show!!)so let's give em' a showing like they have'nt seen yet! I'll see you all there! Ah yes...and to Pssteeler.....i appreciate your offer but i only really need one ticket. I'm holding out to the very end as i have heard time and again that the best seats go up day of show. Wish me luck! :) |

Let's show Queen that we folk from New England can get into it as well as the fans back abroad! 2 more days! whoo hoo! |

WHOOOO HOOOOO! Just bought a floor ticket row B!!!! Thanks Deacons First Choice for convincing me to wait. Hope you manage to get yours too. I was getting a bit nervous there as ticketmaster would only give me the option to buy with a US or Canadian address. Thankfully an international call to the US managed to sort that out. See you all there! |
roxxanne61 08.03.2006 18:08 |
we're getting really close now anyone else feel the high anxiety, ANTICIPATION?? I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!! |
Deacons 1st Choice 08.03.2006 19:53 |
BRILLIANT NEWS PAUL!!! CONGRATS MATE!! I just looked at Ticketmaster before coming here to read the posts, and see they are starting to sell the the first few rows of the Lower sections ( rows KK, LL, etc..which are in front of rows C thru etc..). I am happy to see this. Yes, i'm STILL waiting...even though i am VERY tempted to buy one of these seats being listed now. It's hard to know what to do, but my gut instinct is to WAIT! I also just made my hotel confirmation at the Hampton. Eek it was expensive...and it feels strange to be paying to stay in a hotel in my own state for once! Ha ha!! Now all i need is the most important item: A good ticket! I'm really glad to hear this thread has helped a lot of folks out. Let's keep the momentum going! Most of the Classic Rock radio stations here in Boston are going nuts in the promotion department with ads, ticket giveaways, and WZLX is giving away front row seats Thursday to one lucky listener! All you have to do is listen all day Thursday and call in when you hear a Queen song followed immediately by a Paul Rogers tune. Good luck folks..... |

I should mention that the place to meet will be at the MAIN DCU ENTRANCE, which is where the Box Office is on Foster Street. There is another entrance down the road, but i think this is only for conventions and other events in the halls the DCU has seperate from the venue. Hope to see a lot of fans there....we need to show some support for the Band ! |

james123 08.03.2006 22:10 |
Hello my name is James from south of Boston (work in Boston) and I hope to join you all on Foster Street! Young at 40 years old of 100% Finnish (Finland) background I will be in a black suit jacket, black slacks, white dress shirt (or gray turtleneck sweater underneath if it is chilly). In a moment of brazen honesty it would be nice to meet a nice female Queen fan to hang with. I will have an elastic on my wrist to identify me ... and new 10x50 binoculars around my neck to bring the band closer. I hope to be carrying a number of very nice public domain recordings, including something that may be a total original - a part of a "Old Grey Whistle Test" UK radiocast from 1974 which I have pushed from an old cassette from 1976. I saw the Queen gig at the Boston Garden in February 1977 with Thin Lizzy. Coming out with "Tie" (everyone was standing on the chairs!) they went straight into "Ogre Battle". The strobe lights during "Stone Cold Crazy". "Lap of the Gods Revisted" was absolutely sensational. The lights and smoke mezmerized me - spurred my eventual career in doing lighting for Boston bands 1980-85. Thin Lizzy also played a superb warmup set - their sound was a lot more raw than Queen. I walked in while they were playing "Emerald". The smell of pot was already heavy in the air of the Garden. Queen's mix pushed the bottom end a lot harder and was "slicker". I cover Thin Lizzy songs in my studio. I met Roger and John plus Ratty in 1978 at the top of the Prudential Center. I saw the Garden gig in 1980. Brian broke a string on the 1st number "Jailhouse Rock". The 1980 gig was not played "so-happy-go-lucky" as the 1977 gig but it was very tight. The last Boston gig for "Hot Space" clearly showed the band under strain with each other. I am generally into the earlier "heavier" Queen tracks. I myself do an absolute load of multitrack recordings playing electric guitars, bass, real drums, and keyboards. I cover Queen songs including relative obscurities "Great King Rat" and "Jesus". I need to connect with other Queen fans willing to put down some tracks to improve them. Vocalists are most welcome! Talk to me on Foster Street at 6pm although I may get there earlier. It would be nice if we could coordinate a New England Queen convention during the Summer. I am ready to play in the cover band! |

FWIW, I've checked with locals here in Worcester and they all tell me that they think that the Shopping Mall that you mention next to the DCU has been closed and is being knocked down. They don't believe there are any active food courts, restaurants or stores any more. Not sure where the info is coming from that it may be a viable spot (old web page?) but Heads Up. My best suggestion for you is to meet at the 99, in the bar section, which is an informal pub/restaurant right next door to the Hampton Inn and therefore only a block and a half away from the DCU. If you meet @ 6 outside the DCU, you won't have much time to walk to the destination and get back again, especially if anyone has to pick up a ticket at the call window (as I do). |

Deacons 1st Choice 09.03.2006 21:47 |
Hi gang... Phoenix Surprise, thanks very much for the last minute update. Yes, i agree...i think it would make sense to change the meeting place, but i do hope nobody is left standing outside the Box Office wondering where everyone is! I myself am staying at the Hampton, so i may pop in the 99 Resturant for a meal. I'm really glad there is at least ONE resturant i am familiar with near the venue.....i had no clue! This may also be better as the weather report for tomorrow has changed ( sigh...) and instead of balmy sun and 60'F temps, it's now looking as though it is going to rain most of the day! A indoor meeting place would of course make more sense in this case....but hey, look on the bright side: At least we will have some good British Weather to welcome the Boys 'home" with! I would like to say a big hello to James who posted earlier on the last page...nice to meet you man! Sounds like you have had some great experiences in Queen's heyday, and i'd love to hear all about your meeting with Roger, John, and Ratty at the Pru. WOw, that is fantastic! So i officially annouce the change of the meeting place---- *** Official Worcester Queen-Fun It*** Meet up at the 99 Resturant ( Summer Street, Worcester, right next door to the Hampton Inn!) Time : 6PM, but feel free to float in whenever. DCU Center is a short walk away...so you will be close enough if you need to hop out and pick up any Will Call tickets. I think it would be nice to have a 7PM drink toast to Brian, Roger, and of course Paul in their honor as they get themselves phyched up a mere 20 feet or so away. Ah....the "Good Times Are NOW" people!!!! I also want to thank the person above who noted that plenty of tix are still availible at the venue. Wonderful, as i will be purchasing one tomorrow in person. I've waited this long....it will be interesting to see what i end up with. There have been some very choice seats up recently these past few days...but i've held off. Here's hoping my therory pays off! See you lot in Worcester!! I am expecting to hear some serious singing from the audience...and no stage jumping please. Let's see if "I Want It All" is slipped in for the Boston crowd....it would be very welcome since that tune was so HUGE here back in 89' when it first came out. Wishing everyone a safe journey, and a absolutely blinding time!! Party On from Duck to Dawn!! WOoooooooHoooooooo!!!! |
roxxanne61 09.03.2006 21:54 |
maybe you could call over there and let them know that a bunch of crazy queen fans will be stopping by LOL my god its getting close i cant wait |

Great name BTW! How about Deacon Johns 1st Choice? ;) You can listen to some of my Queen covers at: link (you may need a scroll a bit to find my area) Actually I have a cassette tape somewhere of Queen at the Music Hall in Boston in '76. Brian actually says between songs: "Boston is our best city in the 'states - right?" (crowd roars approval) And in an interview I read Brian stated that Boston was the 1st city in the states that really embraced Queen, he alluded to spot that I think was Newbury Street and said he saw many obvious Queen fans. I fully expect to hear Mr. May to allude to some of this from the stage tonight. Earlier in the day the band signed copies of NATO at Strawberries in Copley Square. I have one. I have pictures of the band in the store including a tired but pleasant Freddie. I plan to publish those here soon plus I have 6 pictures shot from the last Garden gig in '82 from the 5th row already scanned. Oh yes at the Pru, John did not say a word, Roger was exactly my height and was wearing green head-to-toe. |

Here is a good link to a looping radar map to give you an idea of what the weather will be doing: link It also may be an optional idea for the Queen Gang to wear elastics around our wrists to identify ourselves at the 99. I have been to many gigs at the DCU Center and the very nearby Palladium. Parking is the usual scam job - be prepared to fork over up to $25. The DCU Center is about 1/2 mile west of the north/south highway thru Worcester. There's about 3 traffic lights to deal with before you are at the Center and you will see all the guys with the orange things waving. Have your $$ ready. |

Thank you James for the update for those driving in today, and a big thanks for sharing your memories about Queen's glorious past here in MA! Yes, it is very true that Brian has commented several times that Boston was the first city to really break for Queen in the early days. It was "KYA" being played on local Boston radio stations that created a big buzz back in the day ( 73' in this Case...) so by the time the Band actually performed here in the flesh, the City was READY! They used to be based here in the 70's when they would tour in the surrounding areas, rehearsing at the Orpheum Theatre. During Queen's 1st support tour, Brian discovered he had hepetitis while staying at the Parker House here way back then. If you have the book "As It Began". this is throughly covered... he had to be smuggled home on a plane and the rest of their support slot had to be cancelled. Kansas had to fill in for them if i remember right...and Brian was so depressed! Then of course there was "Queen Day" here in 82' when the Hot Space Tour came through. I talked more about this in a earlier post here, so wont go into it again. I need to head out....i have a long bus/subway/train trip ahead of me. Hope to see some folks up there later on. Have a fantastic time everyone! Say a little prayer for Brian for a fast recovery from his bad fall last night at the DC show. ***GOOD TIMES ARE NOW FOLKS!!!*** |

I hope my Dad and I won't have any problems with parking. When I bought my tickets back in December, I also paid for parking. I shouldn't have any worries, right? Anyway, yes, I'm going...bad cold and all. I wouldn't miss this for anything! :) |
james123 10.03.2006 10:06 |
I never have bought parking with my tickets for the DCU but you really should have no problem with your voucher. It's always good to have a plan "B" for all things however. Drive carefully everyone. |

Sportzfan76 11.03.2006 12:40 |
KillerQueen840 - My girlfriend and i were the two people at the catwalk to your right for the entire concert. You talked w/us after the show about emailing you the pics she took. We will send them when we get them downloaded. |
KillerQueen840 11.03.2006 15:59 |
Wow, that's so cool! That is such a crazy coincidence! Thank you so much about the pictures, by the way. It's really kind of you. I felt weird asking, but I saw the some of the ones on her camera after she took them, and they looked amazing. Thanks again very much! |

Just had to bump this up... I can't bear the thought of this being erased! Too many good posts in here to see this thread dissapear. Anyone here have any afterthoughts? For those who attended this show, and then went on to other cities...how did Worcester hold up in comparison? I'm still happy we recieved the title we did from Brian ( see above post!) :) |

i only went to one other show and that one was uniondale and there was NO NO NO comparison i miss these guys so much I never heard Brian ever say there was a better show than Worcester so I think we are still the Best Queen and Paul Rodgers show ever I hope that all the Worcester fans are going to see Paul on May 20th at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut it is a small 1400 seat venue and it will be FANTASTIC!!! SIGH....I miss March 10th so much |
turini 21.04.2006 08:37 |
yea i think im going to buy tickets but roxanne do you know if i have to be 21 to get into foxwoods even though it is a concert? |
roxxanne61 21.04.2006 23:00 |
i dont think so i think it is only to get into the casinos because there are kids walking around the place all the time |
Deacons 1st Choice 23.04.2006 17:52 |
Nice of you to post this Roxanne.... Yes i think it would be good to see a lot of fans turn up at Foxwoods to give Paul some support from this end of the fan spectrum. I don't think there is a age limit to seeing the show as the theatre is a seperate venue from the main gaming casino area. If i was able to get out there i would go in a second...Paul is great and i enjoyed what little i saw of him at the Q+PR shows. He really impressed me as i was sceptical just as many others were when news of this union was announced. Once i heard him on discs from the UK tour i knew this was something special, and then once i saw them all in concert in NJ in October i was blown away. He left a good impression on me. Paul, you rock man!! If a good size group plans on going out to Foxwoods to see Paul, give a hollar and maybe we can plan a pre-show meetup. I won't be able to attend, but im more then happy to help put the word out about it regardless! :) |
roxxanne61 23.04.2006 18:32 |
sorry you cant come deacon, i think its going to be an awesome show and being such a small venue, its going to be very intimate if anyone wants to meet up ahead of time...just say so i think that would be awesome |

Deacons 1st Choice wrote: Iron Eagle... :)and its TC LANDOS that has the best subs |

Best day of my life. The weather was great, the sunset was great, the beers were great, the crowd was fantastic, and most importantly- the band ROCKED! Great memories. Can't believe it's almost been a year. |
KillerQueen840 10.03.2007 11:57 |
I had a feeling this thread would be up. For me, too, definitely was the best day of my life. I can remember everything that happened prior to the concert as well, lol. I had a biology quiz that day, then when I got home I changed and ate an early supper of frozen pizza (it was a Friday and couldn't eat meat cuz of Lent), then I went on queenzone, and last minute I saw this thread and quickly wrote I'd be going there. Then we left. When we got there the weather was actually beautiful for a day in March, and then we went inside, and were amazed at the location of our seats. Then I saw Dan (Mr.Jingles) on the otherside, had a feeling it was him, but wasn't sure, so I grabbed my brother and we both went over and I randomly introduced myself. haha It's crazy how quick a year went by. Almost scary. |
Deacons 1st Choice 10.03.2007 15:43 |
Well here we are folks...it's officially the anniversary date now! Woo hoo...what a show! Good to see people are still talking about the one concert The Curled One noted was the best Q+PR concert ever. Can't say i dissagree really..it was one Hell of a show despite Brian being so sore after his terrible fall into Paul's piano pit a few shows before... I can almost guarentee they WILL be back whenever the Band decides to come through Stateside again. I've said it before...i'll say it again: Boston has always been and always will be THE "Queen City". Roll on 2008 baby!! :) |

Just wanted to bump this classic thread up a few notches, as at the moment the fan community is awaiting with baited breath for the Official Tour Announcment/Date List. I am fairly sure the Band will return to the Boston area, as the Worcester gig was nothing short of spectacular. If you missed it, read this ENTIRE thread and you will have felt as if you were there. So cross yer fingers, people.....for a Boston area gig. Anyone want to guess at what venue they might play? Personally, i would love to see them hit The Orpheum. Awesome place...easy to get to in the city, and every seat is excellent. A GREAT intimate venue....PLUS nostalgic. Queen played one of their first US gigs here back in 74' if i am not mistaken... Naturally it would be cool to see them play the 'new" Boston Garden ( formally the FleetCenter) but the place is a barn and i do not have complete confidence they could fill it. Forgive me if this sounds negative..i do not mean it to...i simply do not think it could be filled regardless of the Boston areas ledgendary fan base. IF this venue were to be only one of a small handfull of shows in the US ( only East Coast show..per say) then YES they would have no problems at all. Hopefully it will not be one of the outdoor venues if they instead hit the States in the Summertime. We shall eventually see. Worse case scenerio for locals: They hit NY instead and we all have to trek down. After the lackluster NJ gig the previous visit in 06', and the high ratings Worcester was given ( even from the Band themselves based on quotes) my money is on a MA show. It will be interesting to see what happens. Hope to see some of you there, whereever the closest show will end up being! |
Shane Jazz 16.03.2008 23:05 |
I would have no problem with Worcester again. The venue was a pleasant surprise. The Garden would be my first choice, personally. Boston was always a strong Queen city and I would like nothing more than to walk around the North End the day of the concert. |
Deacons 1st Choice 17.03.2008 19:39 |
Shane my friend, i would be right there walking with you man..! Yeah, Worcester would be fine to return to. It was a excellent venue and the Band enjoyed themselves just as much as the fans did that night ( except for Brian probably, as he was still hurting after his fall a few nights previous) We will just have to wait n' see. In the meantime, it's St. Patty's Day here in the City and it's time to party till' you are GREEN. Let's get to it! :)- |

Hey Boston fans! I am the producer of a Freddie Mercury tribute show that will be held on August 10th at the OBERON in Cambridge. All proceeds will benefit the AIDS Action Committee and Mercury Phoenix Trust. WMEX will be there to live stream and Michele McPhee will guest MC. There will be a raffle and costume contest in addition to some of Boston's most talented bands performing Queen's hit songs. Below is the Facebook event page: link |
