Freddie's #1 Fan Forever 04.12.2005 01:45 |
To fans, I hate to say it, but the US tour is going to bomb out! Let's face it, they couldn't even sell all of the seats for many of the shows in Europe. What makes them think that they are going to come here and be successful? Along with the ROTC cd, this represents the first major "Queen" failure. I find that pretty depressing. Their huge-ass egos (which will soon be deflated) really are ruining the legacy. |
boy of destiny 04.12.2005 02:10 |
I hate to say it, but you could be right. They're playing some pretty big barns and they just don't have the following in N.A. to fill them. Add to that many Queen fans have mixed feelings about the "reunion" and the tour could be a disappointment. From a personal stand point, I listened to ROTC again today and I'm just not feeling it. While I'll be there in Vancouver, there's been a few tours that have wrecked bands for me for years (The Who in '89-90(?), Genesis (the We Can't Dance tour) and the recent Van Halen tour to name a few). Luckily, I don't look at this as a Queen reunion. I'm really just looking forward to seeing Brian May and Roger Taylor play live again, but I have this nagging fear that the show (with the current set list) won't meet expectations. |

In the U.S., PR may want to flip some of the lyrics screens around so that the audience knows what to sing. Do they have a support act there or are they even the support act of other bands? |

You bastards, you should be glad they extended the US-tour. What the hell if they don't sell out, have fun. It's not Queen from around the 80's(US-tour)!!! It's a new thing, and as FM used to say "fuck today, it's tomorrow". Stop living in the past, and treasure this moment, as most of you didn't see Queen when they hit the US bigtime!!! |

I agree with Rock It. They don't need to worry about selling out shows or making a ton of money. THey've done that and the royalty checks keep coming in. So they want to do this to go out and tour and have FUN! Queen was what it was in the past. No doubt about that. But they're musicians and want to play. That's their job. Just because a mechanic retires doesn't mean he can keep fixing cars afterwards. Fred is regretably gone and John retired. Doesn't mean Brian and Roger can't keep playing. The only way this tour will bomb is if nobody goes to support them. I've seen them twice in their prime. 78 and 80. I remember in 1980 they didn't totally sell out the venue I saw them in but they still made made their money off me with a t-shirt and program. And they had the number 1 album in the country at the time too with The Game. Leave them alone for fuck sake! The only way they will "bomb" is if people like Bitch4Freddie don't go. |

It not a question of selling the arenas out, it's whether they'll even be half full. AND YES I'LL BE THERE, so I'm not being anti Q+PR. For example, Rush came to Calgary for the first time in like 20 years a few years back and the night of the show the NHL team I was working gave everybody in the organization free tickets because they had only sold about 5000 tickets in a 17,000 seat venue. Some of the cities may be too close to support the number of shows booked, so some nights could be a disappoinment for the band and promoters. |
Chamo25 04.12.2005 12:54 |
Fuck it! I don't care if they sell out or not, I already got my tickets and want to see them even if the concert is half-way filled. Why would you care? Just like Brian May said earlier this year: If you don't like it, don't come." |
deleted user 04.12.2005 12:57 |
Not every single seat ahs to be filled for it to be a brilliant show. I would love to go but then I think if it would be right to with Freddie gone. And Brian and Roger have done alot of well not very good things. I mean 5ive and some other things. |

When Freddie kicked the bucket, I was learning not to put my hand into the electric outlets. Now Roger and Brian are coming back to present Freddie's words to us all! THERE IS A GOD! |

Honestly, I agree to a point. I don't see the tour as "failing" per se, but don't expect sellouts at many venues, if any at all. |

Now that it's happening, people are "well they shouldn't be doing this." If you don't like it, don't go. Don't try to bring everyone else who's excited down. |

Face facts, this sham parading around at the moment is not,and never will be Queen. This was always going to be a failure. The original American Queen audience had long diminished even when Freddie was still alive,so how the hell this pathetic ego driven joke could ever convince anybody over the age of 35,is beyond me.I'm sad to say it,but Brian and Roger have ruined Queen's legacy. Why the hell they ever thought they could get away with it,is a mystery.I know there are a lot of ignorant people out there prepared to fork out to see this crap, and i'm sure a lot of them think Paul Rogers was always a member of Queen. For the rest of us(real Queen fans),we know what this farce represents, the end of any credibility Mr Taylor and May once had.Stick to the original albums, and the wealth of video material, and remember what once was. |

I think it will be a huge succes....but the shows weren't sold out in Europe, because of their dumb-ass tourpromotor...they have been so stupid to tell the who;e world that all shows were sold out when they weren't, so the ticketbuyers went to the boxoffices to get tickets for other shows...and left Queen and Paul Rodgers with enormous amounts of unsold tickets and many empty seats....even in Brixton, there weren't even any people in the top seats area...a few relatives maybe...and in the rest of the venues i was, there were big areas where no one was sitting...emptiness all over .... so..if this stupid marketing strategie is being continued in the states...they are throwing away a lot of money...and chasing away their own fans...who think that there are no more tickets, and don't plan on going then, and later find out that the ticets to get the place filled are being sold in front of the theatres for dump prices, or in many cases even given away for free....But for as far as their "new product" is concerned, i feel that - given the huge differences and shortcomings all over- they do have something that will bring a lot of joy to a lot of people. I sabled down their start-off show in Brixton, but saw them change and grow and get better along the way...so they do learn, adjust and improve...but the tracklist is not very much like a queenshow used to be...it is very predictable, but misses some ingredients too that made Queenshows so much better and different than other bands shows. Freddie Mercury WAS the show....Paul Rodgers is merely a side-product added to half of Queen.... He sings brilliantly, and has his enormous voice...but he doesn't make any efforts to play with, or involve the audiences....it is like them doing their thing with bulletproof glass between them and the crowd...there is no spark...no crazy shit...all the shows are so very much the same, and if you've seen 1, you've pretty much seen 'm all....with Freddie around, each and every show was different, and Freddie could let every crowd eat out of the palm of his hand....i am NOT asking that from Paul, or even comparing him next to Freddie, as he is a star in his own right...BUT, nevertheless...i think that if they really want to continue doing tis, even after this tour record a new album and then tour again to promote that....they MUST work on the promotion/promotor....and think of something that will change and intensify the contact between them and us from the stage....even without Paul looking like an imitator of Freddie, there are zillions of things he could do to improve that....for instance: improvise...ask the crowd what they want to hear...and show some more balls by not being afraid to try new things....or get some fans on stage to join him for songs and words....things like that...??? haha, i for one, would really love to climb that stage, and duet with Paul or Brian and Roger...they would be astonished !!! This tour ....mmmm....as long as they are on stage and have fun...it is okay with me....but still it should be titled as a product : 50% Queen + Paul Rodgers.....as the 2 persons who DID write the biggest selling successes for Queen, are both sadly missed....so it isn't even 50% really.....and how can we expect to get 100% if this remains like it is now? Paul, Spike, Jamie and Danny sure can not make up for, or compensate with 4 persons, the enormous gap that is there without Freddie and John....and that is what we all feel i think.....But Queen is still a very much respected name in the world, and will sell good because of that. Many youngsters never even saw Brian or Roger....and take this opportunity to at least see them play live once...and without them having been there in the good old days, they will not be able to compare like we...the oldtimers that did see the real Queen live....so..i think that this show with these songs being played, is still a very nice experience for them...and they do get to see and hear the old fireplace |

I dont believe it will be, i know some 50 people including my self willing to pay 200 od dollars for decent seats and most of the places are selling out quickly. I liked return of the champions, you didnt complain when they would play at charity events with guest vocalists and you didnt whine about the fm tribute so shut the fuck up. Freddie is dead (bless him) "Queen" is music, not whos in it, Freddie, was not Queen he was a part of Queen. Paul Rodgers brings a nice feel for it and america tends to like blues and it will do well here so suck it up or shut it up. God you all are so ignorant. |

Paul Rodgers fail in the states? Are you people insane? The last two Paul Rodgers concerts I went to sold out... Dallas and Atlanta... including the last one where David Lee Roth was the opening act. Now that was funny.

They're not going to fail. and these are the top 5 reasons why: 5) They're SOO FREAKIN AWESOME and did well on the European tour, thus the reason for extending it to America, to give a show to their american fan base 4) They work well together and can still rock it! 3) People want to see them here despite u naysayers... 2)ITS F***IN QUEEN!!!!! and i saved the best for last, well 1 and 2 are really tied, but for this forum, this is more appropriate. 1)THEY WANT TO PROVE U PRICKS WRONG!!! Thats always been a drive for them... So if u think they're gonna fail HELL no. And so what if they dont sell out every single show, they're not coming to do that, they're coming to give their fans a KICK ASS SHOW, and theres no way they can fail at that. And Fred (sadly, may he RIP) is dead, dont keep trying to compare the two frontmen, u cannot. They're 2 distinct performers. And they're not trying to replace freddie, thus the PLUS PAUL RODGERS, they're not making him apart of QUEEN, hes performing W/ Them... |
