Ok everyone may i vent a bit?alot of you dont have any faith in us yanks to fill these large halls in the states for our fave band.why??people forget this is where queen have sold the most records, played in front of the most people and still have a huge fan base.the last tour in 1982 sold out almost everywhere and even with no freddie we filled the dumps in NJ and LA.because the masses did not like hot space or even the works-Queen fans(the real ones)didnt die folks.keep this in mind venues in Italy and even 2 shitholes in Ireland did not sell out for this tour and the irish halls were tiny. And also the Stadium dates in Europe were poorly attended by what many of you think are the core following.Mark my words oh yee of little faith-we have the fans and the Cash to fill up our shows.
I am hoping they did not spread themselves out too thin.
Two shows, back-to-back nights in the same city makes a ton of sense. Fans come for a couple of days of partying, one night in a hotel, two shows, and go home. Gawd, I wish this year NJ could have had a Saturday night gig. Two shows in 24 hours in the same building would have been fab.
I am very leary that this tour will do exceptionally well. My wife and I will go to DC....that's it. We waited anxiously at the PC and tried and tried and tried for almost an hour to get prime seats (Section 4, 1st Row). For Washington......well.........we'll get a couple of upper deck seats sometime before February...after all, what's the rush?
How well it does in DC, I don't know. They're playing in NJ and a couple of times in PA just before/after this gig.....
Plus, it's in the late winter. Not summer, but that dreaded cold weather time they used to hate here. Hope...hope..hope....that they keep their chins up IF IF IF some arenas only sell 8000.
Dude, I appreciate your optimism of American love of Queen. However, if you think that USA respect for Queen, measures up with Europed?? You are wrong as hell! I think Queen with Paul will do fine in the USA. But don't underestimate the great musical taste of Europe. I am from the USA, but I have no illusions. Queen is like soccer.
This tour will be a stunner....
I forsee this tour being absolutely HUGE. The reaction that you will see in March will be amazing.
I, for one, cannot wait. I was in such a great mood last night after buying my tickets, that my wife thought I was on drugs.......
If there is even the slightest bit of promotion, this tour will do absolutely fine. The resurrection of old classic rock bands (to a certain extent) is occurring in America, and these gigs will fall right in line--especially with Paul's name attached. I guarantee that when some people start hearing of this tour (those that have never seen a live "Queen" gig), they will become enamored with it. Old timers and young people who are beginning to explore the music of the past will undoubtedly be curious to see this in action.
Have a rolling setlist (in terms of both Queen's and Paul's material) interjecting some of the lesser-played tunes, throw in the lights, and you have a show people will want to see. Could you imagine the response if they threw in stuff like White Man or Sleeping on the Sidewalk and people got wind of it? What about some Free stuff also--say, Mr. Big or I'm a Mover? Bad Co--Ready for Love or Deal with the Preacher? If they would just mix in the hits with some of the ones they know would come across well, there would be no doubt about a successful tour--it just needs that bit of promotion--a lacking that quasi-doomed ROTC here in America.
These shows will not be instant sell-outs. Heck Aerosmith is not even sold-out around here. Christmas time is tough for initial sales---people have other priorities for the $$. If sales are slow this week---perhaps do a little promo in January--when everyone is sick of the cold, waiting for those tax refunds and will be ready for a little fun in March.
They have don HEAVY promotion here... 2 hours into the public sale---PLENTY of seats available. The lower sections are not sold out yet at the Bradley center....We'll see if there is an Ad in the Sunday paper tomorrow.
Plus Coldplay tickets went on sale today as well- QPR is touring at the sametime as Coldplay.
In addition to the very good reasons listed already, I can tell you the main reason I have my doubts - its not QUEEN!
I was lucky enough to see the band when they toured the US for Jazz. They were amazing.
When the Q+PR tour was announced, I contacted my brother to see if he wanted tickets - he said no. After seeing Freddie, it would be too much like a cover band.
I suppose I might feel differently if I was a Paul Rodgers fan but he just doesn't do it for me.
I did purchase tickets for the DC show but I will be sitting in the upper deck.
Lets hope I am wrong.
I think Queens biggest problem is that they have been out of the spotlight for so long. Yeah I realize they couldn't help it. The younger generation (mine) aren't fully aware of them. That's why I think that this US tour is great idea. Even if every seat at every venue is not sold out I think it will still be a huge success for Q+PR simply because they will be getting the Queen name out there and more importantly, the music.

If you go into expecting freddie--you will be disappointed...if you go in with an open mind and in the mood for a great Arena rock show with some the best musicians around--playing great tunes. You'll have a good time.

It may not be Queen but they are also not just a cover band. It's new and different, and they are amazing live.
