I think that filling these large arenas in the US is going to be VERY difficult to pull off. For instance.....playing Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul......is really pushing it. They should just play Chicago....Milwaukee is only an 1.5 up the road. They are diluting the possible turnout. If you are going to tour the US...at least be smart about it. THE US audience just will not be as interested as Europe or elsewhere. They werent in their heyday....what makes them think they will be now? They could be facing some 1/2 full (or less?) arenas....in my opinion. |
drummergirl85 30.11.2005 21:09 |
I have to agree I have been thinking this also . Especially where I live...Buffalo. They wont sell out. The reason they did well at LA and NJ was because it was only two shows and there was a possibility they would never come back to the US so fans went for it. But to add all these shows..I dont see it happeneing...but I guess we will find out. But I dont think they should have based it on 2 shows. |
CharlieG 30.11.2005 21:16 |
Just a thought here, but. . . Who's to say that sellouts are a requirement? Is it a necessity to sell every seat in a venue to turn a profit or break even? Frankly, a lot of big tours do so-so with ticket sales and absolutely kill on merch revenues. Just because an act doesn't sell out every seat in each venue (or even 80%, FWIW), that doesn't mean the tour won't be profitable. |
Zak Royen 30.11.2005 21:38 |
what do we care about? the tour being financially profitable for the band? or the arenas being filled with as many fans/appreciators as possible? |
Deacons 1st Choice 30.11.2005 21:43 |
This Tour will certainly be profitable. Absolutely! I doubt the promotors would have bothered having them in these large venues to begin with if they were'nt pretty much guarenteed a healthy profit. Good point made about the Merch. It is all profit..it does'nt cost all that much to produce such things at most shows. I'm not saying the Q+PR stuff is any lesser grade....i'm just generalizing for events in general. Shirts cost about $2+ to produce in the quantity most bands get for selling at their shows. Again, i'm not saying Q+PR do this..just events in general mind you. Besides....they are'nt coming over here to make loads of money. They are coming to give us a long overdue Tour! Woo Hoo!!! We should all be very, VERY happy about this! :) |
Mr. Farenheit 30.11.2005 22:31 |
No....it doesnt HAVE to be full....but if the place is not half full you might as well have booked a smaller place to begin with. They certainly WOULD sell out smaller 5-8000 seat places..and there are plenty of them around. And they could still sell their "stuff." By the way...I could care less about profit. Im sure the band doesnt really care about profit really at this point either. ITs better to make money...but they dont need money and that is not what they are touring for. Again....i just think the logistics of booking all those midwest dates ...which are all pretty close to each other....just lessens the likelihood of a really strong turnout at any of them. Either play fewer places....or play smaller places....it just seems to make sense to me. We shall see. |

As I hav said on another thread..they are really promoting it here in MKE and I have heard Ads in Chicago as well...take a look a the tour stops in the 70s they were here A LOT. AND the stations here are playing QPR songs...with many requests for these songs. I am happy with it all. |

Brian, Roger and Paul are smart guys. While it would be better for them if all the shows were to sell-out, they realize that ANY show is a long-term investment for them. They are able to reach a large NEW fan base who could easily be buying additional cd's and dvd's for the next 25 years. So they look at the long-term revenue potential as well as the immediate profits of the concert. In effect, they create an annuity for themselves. Enough of the boring financial stuff. We need to remember that these guys really enjoy performing. It's an adrenaline rush for them, and it's good for their egos. And of course we, the fans, eat it up, as the adrenaline rush works for us too. And I always get emotional fulfillment from the music and feeling connected to Brian. He and I are brothers (in the personal characteristics and emotional make-up sense). |

Unless they market themselves well, including doing plenty of interviews on TV and radio, this tour will be a bust. I think many, if not most of the venues will be far from full. If they played two shows in the US in October and couldn't sell them out, then I forsee some problems happening next year. |
Queenrocks4579 01.12.2005 13:35 |
they sold out a lot of arenas in the us in their hey day and the fact is that they had freddie then and dont now. They need to choose better places to go to now. |

Don't worry Mr. farenheit...I'm sure they know what they're doing...the promoters have done their homework...don't underestimate them lol. |
stateside fan 01.12.2005 20:11 |
why do people insist NJ was not a sellout-it was!!the return seats were sold and counted.i was there-all seats sold i promise.we dont count seats in mega arenas behind the stage unless concert is in the "round".If billboard lists the show as a sellout-it is!and do you think the same promoter would have booked them if he thought these shows would flop?dont worry my euro friends-we will be there! |
PieterMC 01.12.2005 20:13 |
Really what are you talking about?? There were empty seats in New Jersey. Not many, but there were empty seats. I saw them with my own eyes. It was very nearly a sellout. They were around 400 short of selling out. Billboard did not list NJ as a sellout, just LA. |
jasen101 01.12.2005 20:20 |
It was a sell-out. All the seats were sold = sell out. I tried getting a ticket 2 days before the show and couldn't....so why are you telling me it wasn't sold out...they do reserve seats for certain purposes...and these seats are not always filled..but that doesn't count against it being sold out. |
Ray D O'Gaga 01.12.2005 20:23 |
Not everybody who buys a ticket makes it to the show. |

peiter-sold out meaning each ticket for sale sold.if you went to ticket window that night at the meadowlands for todays event there was a sign.it read FUCK OFF no more seats.that means sell out even if brokers have them or someone died and could not attend.and in LA they played the worst venue ever made for a rock show and came within 320 seats of a sellout,a remarkable achievement considering the sorry promoting.now everywhere you turn here its Queen.a great buzz and this tour will prove it.all that being said some of these towns they have chosen makes you wonder if they should wake harvey goldsmith up and bring his fat ass to the states. |

I really don't care if it was soldout or not, and at the end of the day 400 tickets here or there makes no difference. At least they are coming back. |
