I'll never afford one now, when I was a bit younger I saw one advertised by a dealer in record collector magazine. I saved and saved, as it appeared for 3 months in a row. When I had the princely sum of £400. I phoned them to confirm it was still in stock, and made all the arrangements to pay by cheque. Sent the cheque off in the post and waited for them to send it. I even sent the cheque recorded delivery so it would get there and I would be able to check it had been received.
It arrived on Friday at lunchtime, (I checked with the post office) I spoke to them again, they said they would pay the cheque into the bank on Monday and my record would be despatched when the cheque had cleared.
Sunday morning, horror, disbelief. Freddie Mercury announced he had AIDS. It was all over the Sunday papers. Later that night it is announced that sadly Freddie passed away.
Monday morning I get a call from the record dealers.
"Sorry sir, obviously we can no longer continue the transaction, we have sent your cheque back in the post"
me "You money grabbing, grave robbing ba'#;ds"
Next month the same record appears in record collector for a couple of grand.
Don't you just hate traders!
