Uhm, The Sugarhill Gang hit "Rapper's Delight" samples "Good Times" by Chic. And John almost does the same thing... Never head of the Christmas-thing you mention, but I sense another CHIC-sample.
So, that's why they sound similar (most likely).

true but if you check out "Christmas Rapping" which was before "Rappers Delight" you will hear even more of an influence.

Go take a history lesson babe, John puposely lifted the "Good times" bass for another one bites the dust> it wasn't the coincidence you people are implying.
Don't you mean 'Rapper's Delight'? As mentioned above, the backing for 'Rapper's Delight' is lifted straight off Chic's 'Good Times' while AOBTD is a completely new recording (obviously based on the same bassline). John's bassline is actually different - less bubbly, more heavy - and despite it being influenced on an authentic funk track, was directly sampled by lots and lots of people since. From what I know, there is absolutely no connection between the Sugarhill Gang and Queen.
Your arguments are all fascinating, but rendered irrelevant by the fact that Good Times came out in mid 79, so whether Christmas Rapping or Rapper's Delight came first is redundant.
John Deacon saw that movie when it premiered and noticed that awesome line in the movie, which got stuck with him, and used it a few months later... just like BM used that line from the "Flash" movie: "Who wants to live forever anyway!"
Seen a few interviews on youtube with Nile, things are pretty clear about ABTD, but another interesting fact is that the "Good times" bass line was inspired by another song from the 70's.
And yes the correct used term for what Nile did or John did is:"inspired by"
