Anyone heard it? Swing version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", Van Halen's "Jump" or Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun". Fucking brilliant IMO. Robbie! That's how it's done, dear... One of my favourite albums of this year!!! And I'm into metal apparently... :)
I remember hearing about the album, and thinking - "Oh man, this is going to be funny". - However, although it does seem kinda funny to hear swing versions of hair rock, alternative, and grunge anthems, it's still a very well crafted album that both teens and their grandparents can equally enjoy.
It's much better than Pat Boone's "In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy", which is also a swing album of rock covers. Now, this one is just funny to listen for the moment, but eventually the joke will wear off and the album will become boring to listen to.
Someone just mentioned that I should give it a listen to Richard Cheese's "Aperitif for Destruction", which is also a swing album of rock/pop covers.

The Barnes & Noble I go to regularly plays it in their cafe lounge. It's a hoot! I love swing, but it's just so surreal to hear these lounge lizard versions of grunge and metal.
I think it's funny, but if it gets grandma and grandpa dancin their socks off, and aware of great rock bands, more power to it.
BTW I saw Paul Anka also poromote this on the Today Show here in the USA.
Do you guys know hoe RICH!!!!! he is. Paul Anka could live off the royalties alone he made as the composer of the theme of the original Johnny Carson version of ''The Tonight Show''...
..and Frank Sinatra's SMASH signature hit song, ''My Way.'', and a TON of TV theme songs and commercial jingles.
The man is richer than, God...or even Brian! LOL!
Ahh..thanks for the recommend on this Fenderek.
I'm listening to it now on Rhapsody.
Smells Like Teen Spirit works well and that arrangement of Spandau Ballet's True is great!
Works beautifully as a swing tune.
I'm enjoying the hell out of this.
And you don't have to be a grandpa to like swing and big band music.
Great music transcends age and crosses many generations.

Totally agree, as I am walking proof. Err, playing proof: I play in a swing trio along with a couple of seniors. The one guy plays drums and sings, and the other plays accordion like I've never seen it played before. These guys are amazing. They know the 40s and 50s stuff cold. Too bad we don't play that often anymore, because the accordion player is having some health issues these days.
Btw, I found the Paul Anka Rock Swings album to be mostly fantastic. My only problem was this: some of the songs sounded like completely unrelated swing songs that happened to have rock lyrics - no resemblance to the original music or medley, like in Eye Of The Tiger. But most of the songs are very well done.
