Even queenconcerts doesn't know the source of the first night in Vienna 84. Is it soundboard or audience? Up on first listening, I would say soundboard, purely based on the fact that you cannot hear any individuals talking or screaming like you can on most audience recordings....
It's audience.
Reason?
During Brian's speech during the acoustic set, there is a cut. Because the bootlegger flipped the tape.
There you have it!
It's an excellent audience recording.

Actually, that isn't enough reason. I own many soundboard recordings by various bands, and there are cuts here and there.
But yes, the Vienna 9-29-84 you're talking about is indeed an audience recording.
OK, so now we have a cassette recording with the sound of the very same tape going OUT of the recorder. Hey, that one must have been a hell of a bootlegger!!!

Well, Vienna'84 is indeed an audience recording that was obviously done by a taper who had great equipement and knew how to make a nice recording, but just because there are cuts in the recording doesn't necessairly mean it's an audience source. Many sbd recordings were done with regular tape recorders as well, so that means tape flips after 45(or 30) minutes. They were done on cassette recorders, because recording a show with a multitrack recorder is much more expensive and in most cases is only done when recording an important show or of course when you want to release a live album. The only way to record a show without any cuts is to run two recorders simultanously and to start the second recorder before the first one runs out of tape.
