The song is absolutely nothing like the Queen song, so why shouldn't he call it Spread Your Wings; he's not passing it off as being anything other than an original song. If his intention *is* to create publicity within the Queen community by using Queen song titles (which I doubt), then you have just been sucked into his trap. |

Robbie's "spread your wings" is a nice song. Whilst it would be nice to believe that Robbie picked the title as o a Queen tribute, I feel that this is mere coincidence. Nice try though. |

Robbie is a tragic person. The only illegitimate love child of Freddie Mercury to survive birth, he's doomed to strut the stages of the world, wanting desperately to follow in his father's footsteps. Sadly, however, he inherited only the meager vocal genes of his mother, Jim Hutton. |
i'm going slight mad... 10.11.2005 18:27 |
oh for gods sake get over yourselves guys. getting angry cos a song has the same title as one by queen? that is really pushing fandom to further limits. and making personal attacks on the man is not nice. you do not know him. you do not know how good or otherwise he is. it is bang out of order. now, whilst i would never personally buy any of robbie's releases, i respect the fact that she is a very good performer. there are a few things that i would not have done up on stage if it was me up there, like kissing that fan, but he knows how to get a crowd going. he has never denied the fact that he is a big admirer of queen and freddie in particular, it is only natural that he will have picked up traits in performing from a man he admires so much. but the freddie impression isn't quite right yet. when he starts toasting the audience whilst calling them darlings, wearing spandex, then i admit he is going to far, cos then he is not being himself up there. |
john bodega 11.11.2005 10:41 |
Ugh. Robbie Williams has perhaps one or two mildly pretty songs in his repertoire, but that doesn't stop them from being dead boring. He is an inept singer. He does not have an impressive range, the sound of his voice is unpleasant. He seems to appeal to people because he's a good 'entertainer' - but he looks boring and oafish on television. Maybe you have to 'be there'... but at Live8 he just looked like he'd stumbled out of a pub. It's a sad indicator of music these days. People like Robbie Williams because there's so much dreck around, they don't have a choice but to pick something, no matter how crap it is. |

It's like picking whether you want to fucked up the ass with a broken bottle, another broken bottle or a broken bottle with chocolate sprinkles on it. What's the point? As the prophet Bonnie Tyler once lamented: "Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods? Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?" Amen. Rest in peace, Freddie. You're the lucky one. |

spymyshadow 14.11.2005 13:11 |
the problem is who is stealing what. Queen just had a similar title, but considering how long and in how so many different ways robbie has been trying to compare with freddie (what about we will rock you at live8, then) I am more and more convinced he's a horrid little thief. |
john bodega 15.11.2005 09:22 |
Hey look, if he 'stole' someone's schtick and was GOOD at it then I wouldn't give a crap. But he's so painfully incapable of living up to the standards of any of his sources - er, I mean idols, it's just embarrassing. Robbie Williams (and I say this from purely a musical standpoint - say what you will about his 'showmanship' and his 'personality') IS CRAP. "I believe Pink Floyd did a song called The Show Must Go On, so Queen also "stole" things" Meh, the Queen track was better. You can argue about who stole what in music but really it doesn't matter a shit. Elvis supposedly stole from the blacks but I reckon he probably did it better than some people around in those days. It became something else when us shitty white people tried to do it, it's really just a natural evolution. Jimi Hendrix in his later days was doing guitar overdubs startlingly similar to what Brian May was doing at the start. I'm not going to harangue Mr. May for a track like Chinese Torture and say 'YOU RIPPED OFF HENDRIX". Heck, they were doing it before Hendrix anyway... It's all about how hard you suck once you've ripped someone off. Robbie Williams... you could use him to clean up confetti after a pride parade. That's how hard he sucks. |

"Johnny was a boy make a huge bang buddy in the streets gonna be a big boy some way......." By the way, you got the words *wrong*. Not 'different' or 'his own spin on things'... just WRONG. It doesn't even make any fucking sense like that - the original song actually had a point and (contrary to popular belief) was against violence rather than for it (which is why I chuckle when people use it to rev themselves up in the Gulf and stuff). |

I say we send the fucker into Afghanistan with his PA system strapped to his back and let him rip. Osama Bin Laden would turn himself in at the nearest border in not time and we could all use the reward money to buy Queen Productions Ltd. Haha! The vault would be ours at last. We'd leave Robbie in Afghanistan, naturally. He'd wander around and find Michael Jackson eventually, settle down, have kids, etc. |

" Artists/Bands with a track called "Spread Your Wings"" List of people that don't care: Zebonka12. We're off to a flying start! "Gosh. What a crime. Get a life." Jesus Christ, you can say that with a straight face, having just gone to the trouble of listing all those people who - ah bugger it, there's no saving you. " What's wrong about Robbie Williams?" He's crap. "He's a talented singer and performer"- Singer no. But I have no problem admitting the crowds seem to like him - this is why I don't mind that he does shows like Live8. He might suck balls but if he can rev the crowd up so they can recieve the better acts like Paul McCartney in a louder fashion, then all the power to him. "-and has lots of great songs." There are some pretty songs in his repertoire. "He will never be worth a thousandth of what Freddie is, but he is cool nevertheless." Perhaps it's a common misapprehension that people hate him just because he's not Freddie Mercury, and that they're comparing him unfairly. This is not true. I can only speak for myself when saying that I don't hate him because he sucks compared to other people. He just generally sucks and it's sort of painful to see someone like that stumble their way through something they're not that good at. He's an oaf. "But some people can't understand that. Never mind, eh." There are some times when people shouldn't pay homage. Elton John is one example. The Hitchhikers Guide movie of 2005 is another. I bet Douglas Adams was rattling in his coffin when the words "For Douglas" came up at the end. More like 'Way to screw over the dead guy's magnificent book'. |

Robbie wants to be Freddie? So what? Weren't most of you spending your time on watching some awful amateur Queen cover bands? Maybe because I don't know a lot of things about Robbie - I can only judge about him by hearing music he's doing. And I haven't heard something awful in it. Gary Cherone was trying to sing and look like Freddie on Freddie's tribute more than any others ever, but Extreme is still respectful band for Queen fans. Only one problem of Robbie Williams for Queen fans is - he's Robbie Williams. "Everything done by Britney or Robbie is crap, no matter what they're doing", yeah? If some young guys would start listen Queen music, because their modern idol Robbie tells him that Freddie and Queen were great - I'd be glad. (P.S. There was a hit song in the first half of 80s called "A Winter's Tale"... Nasty Queenies stole others' fame!) |

"Thank you. We love you too." That's a strong word. "But to be honest - you've walked in that room just after you were born and you still alone there!" Bam, wrong wrong and more wrong on a level you can't possibly understand! Furthermore, if it were full of idiots, would I be alone? Nincompoop I was just poking fun... "Damned... What a need in making these rude and offensive comments?!" Rude and offensive? Are you Robbie Williams? Of course not - therefore it shouldn't offend you. I don't hate anyone for liking him, that's their own twisted decision. "You don't like Robbie - okay!" Aha. I was worried I hadn't made that clear yet... "Should we don't like him too because of your opinion?!" Opinion... it's a funny word, often used to disengage from an argument when one knows they're wrong. "Hell, no! You don't like what he's done?" NO I don't! It's *awful*. "Let's do something by yourself and then we'd talk about you!" (stifled yawn) Look, what I do in my spare time is beyond reproach, I have no lack of confidence in my ability to hammer out something better than Robbie Williams' brand of *crap*. I AM NOT A SINGER, but I am a guitarist and I know what I'm good at, so I'd never make an idiot of myself stumbling across stage doing something I can't. I'm sure the man is a wonderful wonderful person with manifest talents. Singing is not one of them. What *is* this stupid comeback people keep using? The moment I shit on someone who sucks badly, the first thing they go for (perhaps it's an automatic response) is "well can YOU do better?". Sure I can. "That's why I'd never upload Face It Alone for you! :P" Someone already did. So we can put that joke to bed. :D |

Especially you Serry!" - that offends me, I don't know why, but offends... Opinion is a funny word for you? Well, this is where the discussion is over - good luck in your future life and use this rule ("opinion is just a funny word!") with any man/woman you'll ever meet. HOO boy, read this one before going out this morning! "Is it supposed to be funny? Well, it is not." Are we talking about 'Face it Alone'? Jesus... get a grip. The 'Face it Alone' injoke that gets mentioned here is no funnier than the one about the poster with bad English, or whatever. People chuckle over it, or at least pretend to - it hurts no one, leave it be. "I know who's singer Robbie Williams" Hahahaha. "and I don't know the guitarist Zebonka." Do you HONESTLY think I'd go under a name like Zebonka? I picked it because it was the first thing to come to mind when I regirstered in this marvellous microcosm of humanity. "That's it. So you're awful and crappy guitarist" Ease off on the fuckwit throttle hombré. As I pointed out (or failed to, rather) I am better on guitar than Robbie Williams is at singing. Look, this is not a bigheaded thing to say. I suck at juggling. He sucks at singing. I don't know what you suck at, but I know you're probably great at something else. Same with Robbie Williams - but just as people have every right to appreciate him, I've the right to say 'nah, he's crap'. No, I'm not a crappy guitarist. Idiot. Look we're all good at something, whether it's because of divine intervention or just years of practise... who knows. Obviously not you buddy. '...you're trying to play on the instrument that you don't have to touch even, right?" You remind me of that Nuno guy that was on the remixes forum. "No, I'm not Robbie Williams, but when you came to say "You all are idiots! Especially you Serry!" - that offends me, I don't know why, but offends..." HAHAHAHA, when exactly did I say that? Can you point me to that post? I'm only ragging on you now because you're disproportionately flabberghasted and it's a hoot. "Opinion is a funny word for you?" ... Jesus. It's like trying to help a one legged man down a flight of stairs. He knows he needs the help, but he's too proud to accept it. I was just poking fun, making merry - you must feel awfully persecuted or lack serotonin for everything to be so... serious. Go watch some Black Books, it's a damned funny show. Shitloads funnier than me anyway. "Well, this is where the discussion is over" HAHAHAHA... ok. When I throw some racial taunts around, direct sexual connotations towards a minor, and majorly piss off the guy that runs the site - then the discussion is over. As hard as it is for you to understand, you don't have control over this. Sure, you can leave, exercise your right to ignore me, just looks lazy is all. "good luck in your future life" I don't need your luck mate. But thankyou for the thought. "and use this rule ("opinion is just a funny word!") with any man/woman you'll ever meet." Look... you've totally missed the point there too. The opinion that Robbie Williams is not all bad is actually quite hilarious. He sounds like a buzzsaw. I heard him on the radio this morning, I thought he wasn't being serious. But no. He was. "(Room was empty, but when you came in - it became a room full of idiots, and you're still alone there... But it's "on a level you can't possibly understand")" And by posting in it, you invalidate your own statement that I'm alone in a room of idiots. There's nothing I don't understand, except war and politicians. Even then I understand it, I just don't give a fuck because I've better things to do! "Level I can't possibly understand..." funny. I think I've heard that somewhere. "P.S. Please don't reply on this" Oh yes. I remember somebody in the "Freddie's Ring" thread told me to stop replying to them - each time, replying to ME in order to do so. Whether you wrote this with a straight face or not, I'll never know. Oh GOD... this is soul destroying. "Sergey! Cheers, applause!" He didn't DO anything, why are you applausing? "Love this... Sergey wrote ''Room was empty, but when you came in - it became a room full of idiots, and you're still alone there...''." Yeah, would've been admirable if it made any sense. What a fuckwit. Look at it very simply: Topic with more than one person posting in it = not empty. My comment 'room full of idiots... I'll fit right in' was not an insult, more of a self-depreciating jab. Just because someone took it personally means shit all. I'm 'still alone there' - didn't he have to POST to say that? Hence me not being alone... JESUS CHRIST. I bet if you were American you'd vote Bush. "I STILL am in the I like Robbie club." There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but why are you begrudging me for saying I'm still in the.. er, the Not Liking Robbie club? "In fact I am starting a support group for people emotionally wounded by the Robbie haters on this board....so there!" And another thing, why call me a 'Robbie hater'. I don't do it because it's trendy, I do it because I have genuinely deep seated criticisms of his music. There's nothing more evil in that than having genuinely deep seated affection for someone elses music... Serry's post says more about himself than it does about me. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite as funny as him struggling with that room full of idiots comment. |

Boys, boys! Come now, you can't convince everyone to like the same things as everyone else, so what's the point in arguing! Robbie isn't everyone's cuppa tea, and I don't know enough about him to warrant a discussion about his music talent, but I do know that he kicked my dog and I hate him for that. |

Zebonka, I'm tired of you..... Really.... Your comments about "no-one can reply in topics about Q+PR in Oz, except Australians" and "everything for Face It Alone" - tells everything about you too! About room, my sense of humour, my brains... Do I have to repeat you ENGLISH IS NOT MY NATIVE LANGUAGE! I'M TIRED TO EXPLAIN THIS! IF YOU'D TRANSLATE WHAT I'VE SAID ON RUSSIAN - IT WOULD BE OKAY. I WAS BORN IN RUSSIA AND SPEAK ON RUSSIAN, MY FAULT, SORRY! I wish you'd come in Russia and would joke here on Russian language, I'll see how many people would understand you! |

omg omg thanks 2 freidchycken for showing me teh lite! i had know idea taht QUEEN stealed teh song by PINK FLOYD teh show must goon! i am devastated and will nevver lissen 2 Queen a gain. :-( I'd also hate be associated with an "highly-intelligent" fanbase like this... *eye-roll* |

"Zebonka, I'm tired of you....." Feelings mutual. But I'm drunk right now so I love everyone. "Really...." Haha, as if I didn't get your point already. "Your comments about "no-one can reply in topics about Q+PR in Oz, except Australians"" That is *absolutely* not what I said. I believe those were the words of some other Australian in the thread - I was actually taking a guy called Rick to task because he was calling my ENTIRE NATION a bunch of idiots because one announcer at a gig in 1974 was a complete prick to Queen... big whoop. You've totally misread me on this one, but I agree - that statement was bunk. I believe the point that the person was trying to make when they said 'no non-Aussies' was that people who weren't really contributing could just go someplace else. It wasn't productive, Aussie Queens didn't have a site at the time, so they just needed a nice clean thread to talk about it in. Having Penetration Guru or whoever else wander in and say 'bah, bad idea' just wasn't wanted. Fair enough. "and "everything for Face It Alone"" I suppose it'd be obtuse of me to mention that you brought it up in this thread before I did? Or at least, you brought it up of your own accord... like this: "That's why I'd never upload Face It Alone for you! :P" Heck, the pointed tongue made me think you were a reasonable soul who might understand that I'm really not taking it all too seriously. Why are you so fucking grim anyway? " - tells everything about you too!" The harsh truth is you know fuck all about me, and I equally know nothing about you. Well, I know a little. "About room, my sense of humour, my brains..." You bring it upon yourself. And it's not because English isn't your native language. I understand what you're saying - I just don't like it. "Do I have to repeat you ENGLISH IS NOT MY NATIVE LANGUAGE!" I DO NOT CARE. Whoops, caps lock. "I'M TIRED TO EXPLAIN THIS! IF YOU'D TRANSLATE WHAT I'VE SAID ON RUSSIAN - IT WOULD BE OKAY. I WAS BORN IN RUSSIA AND SPEAK ON RUSSIAN, MY FAULT, SORRY!" I'm not going to begrudge you on your language, the only reason I'm continuing this conversation is because you're pissing me off and casting aspersions on me. Actually, this is quite funny, I hadn't thought about it yet - but how the FUCK can you remember that "Australian tour" thread, with the 'don't post in here unless you're Australian', thing? How the hell can you remember that, you must have one heck of a memory! Bravo! It's an easy mistake to make, I'm not that annoyed actually. Us Australians are all alike. "I wish you'd come in Russia and would joke here on Russian language, I'll see how many people would understand you!" Yeah. Great. Funny. The fact is, I wouldn't go in a Russian forum because I can't speak Russian. See, you CAN speak English, I do understand you. I think the problem is we just disagree. Ok... in closing: *I like Queen. *I don't like Robbie Williams. *I never said anything like what you quote me as saying in that Australian thread. *The "Face it Alone" thing that seems to have cropped up on this site... who cares if you don't like it, other people seem to enjoy themselves poking fun at me for it. *I really don't have anything against you, to me you're just another Queen fan - big whoop. *The only reason I've just spent so much time poking this keyboard is because I think you're in the wrong, you've misunderstood me, and I hate that kind of shit. I know that when people pick fights with me they assume I'm just here to cause trouble, that I'm just another freakin' idiot on the internet... whatever. I don't waste time posting paragraphs of rebuke unless I genuinely think someone has fucked up. And you think *you* are tired with ME? HAH. "I'd also hate be associated with an "highly-intelligent |

actually i like robbie's voice better than freddie's. robbie also has more hits. I don't know, i think queenzone overates freddie mercury a bit. robert plant, cris cornell, and rob halford are stronger singers than freddie, also bruce dickinson and jeff tate are slightly better. freddie and brian were both great but let's not put these guy's with the elite. |

I'm no fan of Robbie Williams...but to those people who also don't like him but continually criticise, just ignore it....I am. So what if he uses a title....just be grateful he is not covering the exact damn song!!!! If he was, then I can understand the anger. By the way, just as an afterthought, how about if you all do a search on Google or Netscape, wherever...and dig up a song by a country artist called Sammy Kershaw. He recorded a song called Love Of My Life a few years ago. The lyrics and music bear no resemblance to the Queen song of the same title. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to finish reading the USA Today and downloading Caracas 81.... |

bad campany and free were better than robbie, but robbie would have made a better front man than freddie. robbie's live performces are in a league of his own, even better than MR. mercury. |

The Floyd's The Show Must Go On was short on The Wall album but the full song was on The Wall Live Is There Anybody Out There as a verse was left off on the album. |
