Greetings. Just returned from the USA with a copy of WWRY on DVD, which as you're all probably aware is no longer available in any format here in the UK (except maybe car boot sales and e bay!).
Before I continue (and in my defence), while I am a self confessed slight Queen nerd, I have a few days to kill before going back to work which is why I've seriously picked at this issue.
Has anyone noticed the appalingly obvious overdubs on this release (both DVD and video). Glaring examples,
1. Video release - during Killer Queen on the line 'Gauranteed to blow your mind' camera shows Freddie is clearly some distance from the mic and not actually singing at all, yet vocals clearly heard. DVD release - this has been rectified and different footage inserted where Freddie is seen to be clearly singing into the mic during this line.
2. During WWRY (fast) Freddie is heard to sing a couple of random bits during the instrumental middle section. Funny this as he isn't seen to be holding the mic anywhere near his mouth or indeed singing.
3. During instrumental section of WWRY (fast), Roger seen to be doing a beat using one of his cymbals. However, audio track is clearly a hi-hat. Sorry, I'm a drummer and couldn't help but notice this one!
4. Video release - during Sheer Heart attack, again Freddie heard to be singing 'Baby make you feel alright' or similar such words. Surprise surprise, mic no where near his mouth and he isn't seen to be singing.
5. DVD and video release - Play the Game. Watch Freddies mouth and listen very carefully to the lyrics. It really doesn't seem to fit and there would appear to be some serious overdubs on the go. You have to watch it to see what I mean.
This has to a certain extent runied the show for me. When I buy a live album or DVD I want to here the screw ups, the duff notes etc etc. It makes it so much more real. This is why I prefer Milton Keynes (which was overdubbed a little I understand but to no-where near extent of WWRY) and Wembley. At the end of the day no band is perfect live. Fact!
Has anyone else noticed these oddities on WWRY and what are your thoughts?
On the plus side, WWRY DVD has some nice extras and has Jailhouse Rock on it which the vid lacked!
The reason for those is a bit simpler than overdubbing. They recorded two shows at the same venue and were using shots from both- not sure about the audio (is it from one or is it alsoa mish-mash of both?). Now you can have very often (as you pointed out) the moments on screen when you hear sound from one night and see the footage from another... But it's not overdubbed in the studio, maybe (but I'm not sure)- it's filled with other night's bits...
I don't think it ruined the experience for me- it didn't bother me really :)
Anyway- how's being married? :)
Best of luck, man :)

It's cool! Thanks for asking. I probably won't be saying the same thing in a couple of years when I've got kids legging it around all over the place but for now it's good!
Glad to see you were also disappointed with the Q+PR DVD and the severe lack of extras. Hyde Park should have been released instead if you ask me!
