It's time for my next review A Night At The Opera. I'll rate each song 1 out of 5 and then rate the album as a whole at the end. 1. Death On Two Legs - A song written about the band's former manager. Kinda dark but kinda fun. It's great to hear live. 4 stars 2. Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon - Nice short song by Freddie. Nice guitar solo at the end. 3.5 stars. 3. I'm In Love With My Car - Definitely one of Roger's best. Great to hear this song on tv for Jaguar. 4 stars. 4. You're My Best Friend - Simple song about someone who's always there when you need them. A very underrated single. 4 stars. 5. '39 - I always wondered why Freddie sang this live instead of Brian. I loved Brian's version on the Sheffield cd. Good song. 3.5 stars. 6. Sweet Lady - I personally have never liked this one. It just doen't sound right to me. Only low point to this album. 2 stars. 7. Seaside Rendezvous - Fun up-tempo song featuring not only english but french lyrics as well. Not Freddie's best but still good. 3.5 stars 8. The Prophet's Song - Phenomenal song by Brian. It has a certain quality about it that can't really be described. If you've never heard it, listen to it. It's fantastic. 5 stars. 9. Love Of My Life - The defining Queen live song. The audience brings this song to life. The studio version is great too with a neat harp sound at points. Freddie ballad at it's best. 5 stars. 10. Good Company - Different sounding track when compared to the rest. Brian's second vocal on the album. Not as good as '39 but not terrible. 2.5 stars. 11. Bohemian Rhapsody - What more can be said about this track. Queen's masterpiece! 5 (hundred) stars. 12. God Save The Queen - This one would serve as the finale to all Queen's shows. Good instrumental. Love the drums. 4 stars. Overall I give this album 9/10. If it wasn't for Sweet Lady it would've got a 10. Great album. Definitely in my top 5 by Queen. |

I agree about Sweet Lady, although the live versions I have heard sound better. I think they should have played it more up tempo when they recorded it, then it might have been a great rocker! The guitar section at the end of Sunday Afternoon is my mobile phone ringtone! The Prophet's Song is probably my favourite of Brian's, along with It's Late and Hammer To Fall. I can listen to the whole album, and not really dislike any of the tracks - and it's all the better on DVD-A! |

Just a question, Do you think Lazing on A Sunday Afternoon has had any vocal changes/ speedups/ slowdowns done to it? You can tell it's Freddie Mercury's voice (obviously) but it just sounds so different I'm wondering whether they had to alter his voice after the initial recording (like how they slowed down parts of Bring Back That Leroy Brown). Just a thought. |

How odd that just last week a couple of posters here thought Good Company was basically a throw away track on ANATO, technically good, but nothing really special. Glad to see that some people recognize it for the genius it is. Can't wait to hear it in 5.1. |

It took me a long while to get into Good Company, but as has been said, it is technically quite brilliant, and there's probably as much going on as there is in Bohemian Rhapsody. To hear it in 5.1 is a positive revelation! |

Good Company is a song that defines Queen for me. I loved the "Britishness" of Queen, and songs like this, Seaside Rendezvous and In the Lap of the Gods with their lyrics, phrases and musicality set Queen apart from their peers. I found that as the 80s entered, they lost a lot of that from their writing, and their albums suffered as a result. |

True, Thomas, that is another fantastic song. Brian was unstoppable from Queen to The Game, didn't write the hits, but I think his album tracks stack up pretty well against Freddie's work. |

The prophet song didn't do anything for queen, i believe you meant a song called "bo rap" was released as a single, that's when people noticed how original queen were, stop trying to change history. Anyone who payed attention already knew queen didn't sound anything like zep, just listen to "black queen" it sounds nothing like anything ever recorded. |

Yes, Bohemian Rhapsody was the reason people bought this album and took notice of it. But upon listening to it, they found other masterpieces like The Prophet's Song and Love Of My Life. Bo Rhap was the big hit, but it's the other two that help shape the album imo. |

of course every song on this album was a masterpiece, but the prophet song wasn't queen's first original song that got noticed. To this day the prophet song is still unheard of by the average rock fan. |
