Now I am rating the final piece of the Queen puzzle (the real Queen) Made In Heaven. I'll rate each song out of 5 stars and explain why I've done so. I'll also rate the album as a whole at the end. 1. It's A Beautiful Day - Unlike many of Queen's prior albums this album opens with a ballad. Simple little song that I think is worth listening to. 4 stars. 2. Made In Heaven - Even though it's not an original Queen track (Freddie's solo album), the Queen version is better I think. The guitar on it is great (it always is). Very moving song. 4 stars. 3. Let Me Live - Unique single. Featuring Brian, Roger, and Freddie trading vocals. Reminds me somewhat of Somebody to love with the choir type sounds. 5 stars. 4. Mother Love - Very moving ballad. Freddie must have found it hard to sing the line "I can't take it if you see me cry, I long for peace before I die." Brian sings the last verse of the song possibly because Freddie was too ill. Touching song, but fantastic nonetheless. 5 stars. 5. My Life Has Been Saved - I consider this to be a sort of filler track although the more I listen to it the more I like it. Simple lyrics about reading the papers and seeing death all through it and thanking the lord you're not on it. Mediocre song 2 stars. 6. I Was Born To Love You - Another solo Freddie song reworked as a Queen song. The song is catchy and up-tempo. Nice break before the heavy ballads to come later. 3.5 stars. 7. Heaven For Everyone - Originally done by Roger's band The Cross, the Queen version is one of my favorites. Song about someone who has a hard life and looks back and there's that one person who seems to make it all worth it. "Just your smile can smooth my ride". "You come to me and everything's fine." Great song. 5 stars. 8. Too Much Love Will Kill You - Anyone familiar with the story of how Freddie died will understand why this is an outstanding and powerful ballad. Originally apprearing on Brian's solo cd, the Queen version brings a tear to my eye everytime. Although Brian's version is great as well. 5 stars. 9. You Don't Fool Me - Personally never liked this song. Seems like they're trying to recreate the dance oriented type material ala Hot Space and Another One Bites The Dust. Didn't really work imo. 1 star. 10. A Winter's Tale - Gentle ballad about that special season. Although it's not so special when you're in -30F weather and 3 feet of snow. Nice song though. I thought three was too low and four too high so I give it 3.5 stars. 11. It's A Beautiful Day Reprise - Starts off like the opener but then kicks into a drum festival with a little piece of Seven Seas Of Rhye thrown in. Slightly brings down the song imo. 3 stars. I didn't count the hidden tracks as they're not officially listed on the album. Overall, if you're looking for a album that's not too hard and not too soft, this one's for you. 8/10. |

forgive my ignorance...but I always assumed that Too Much Love Will Kill You is referring to Brian's affair with Anita? |

I can't understand why most of the people don't like My Life Has Been Saved. I think that it's brilliant song. It's very warm, emotional and atmospheric. Love the into. Maybe it's been unfavorite because it's to "steady" by Queen standards. What do you think? P.S. You Don’t Fool Me is my another favorite track on the album :) |

well i actually just heard this CD the other day because ive been, i guess you can say boycotting the buying of this albumn (for me personally) because i was afraid to cry and hear mother love. So Greta sent it to me and i listened to it- and i did exactly what was expected of me- i was crying so hard(specailly when Brian starts singing in Mother Love), but this is in my top 3 of best CDs ive ever heard It's A Beatiful Day 9 Made In Heaven 8 Let Me Live 8+ Mother Love 10+ My Life Has Been Saved 9 I Was Born To Love You 9 Heaven For Everyone 9 Too Much Love Will Kill You 8 You Don't Fool Me 7+ A Winter's Tale 9+ and the untitled instrumental**** 10+ i actually sat in my bed for 22 min straight listening to a bunch of noises but i still love it a lot Overall: 9+ or A |

Mark me down as crazy, but I actually prefer the hidden track to anything on the actual album! It's hard to remove the music from the emotional aspect surrounding it, but I've never thought that much of the music stood on its own. You Don't Fool Me and My Life Has Been Saved are just painful to listen to for me. I also feel that Freddie wasn't healthy enough to give Too Much Love a proper go, and it doesn't live up to Brians version in performance or production. The rest of the songs are fine (no ground breakers), and the production is stellar, except... I just don't get everyone digging Mother Love. I've tried and tried, but apart from the sentimental aspect, I just don't see the attraction. Oh well. I thought that Innuendo was an incredible last album for the band, even if it were made under different circumstances. Its a shame that MIH serves as a bookend to the bands legacy. Just my opinion... |
Boy Thomas Raker 01.11.2005 20:13 |
Oh dear, Dr. Winston. Prepare for the onslaught, MIH is a sacred cow if you weren't aware. Despite the total accuracy of your remarks, people don't like to hear that type of talk. |
Sherwood Forest 01.11.2005 20:25 |
i dont think it matters i respect ur opinions and see where ur coming from cuz thats what i thought at first i was like hmmmm freddie's too weak for half these songs. but thats sad i think thats what made me so upset, hes giving it his all but it still cant match what he could do just a few years ago and the fact that he would get weak from standing of walking too much- and then he said that hed finish Mother Love when he wasnt so tired- and it wound up Brian finishing it. Sometimes sadness, depression or struggle makes things better when a few years ago if he made it we would be like WTF this sucks! |

I don't care about your opinions anyway. 'A Winter's Tale' is beautiful. 100/10 |

When I bought MIH, I was prepared to be disappointed - but I wasn't! In many ways, I actually prefer this album to Innuendo, or The Miracle. IABD was a lovely opener, and the title track was a revelation, compared to the FM version. Let Me Live featured some great vocals harmonies, and reminds me of Somebody To Love. It's a shame Freddie didn't sing all the vocals, but it does make it unique, having all three singers sharing lead vocals, which wasn't done before on a Queen track (not counting the operatic section in Bohemian Rhapsody). IWBTLY was another great improvement on the FM version, and is a wonderful, fun, upbeat rocker. Mother Love is, well, incomparable to anything else, containing the last vocals Freddie recorded. A difficult track to listen to, even now. My Life is probably the weakest track on the album - no, the second weakest. The original version (B side of Scandal) was better, imo. HFE is still one of my favourite Queen tracks, and I would have loved to have heard it performed live on the Q+PR tour. Brian's guitar solo on this track, is probably one of my favourites. TMLWKY... hmm... now don't shoot me, but somehow, I prefer Brian's solo version. Freddie's vocals sound strained on this version, and the whole thing is played just a tad too fast. The ending, also, is quite abrupt, and seems rushed, if you know what I mean. The best version of this, in my opinion, was a live version on the B side of Brian's Resurrection single, with Cozy Powell on drums - awesome! You Don't Fool Me, I have never liked much, although it does contain some nice guitar work from BHM. Now, I have a different interpretation of A Winter's Tale. Bearing in mind this was the last song Freddie wrote, my feeling is that he was not only talking about 'Winter' as in snow, but as the 'Winter' of his life. The final season, where the nights draw in, and all you want to do is curl up by a nice warm fire. I also think he was thinking of how he sees Heaven being "all so beautiful, like a landscape painting in the sky". Peaceful, tranquil, and "Oooo... it's bliss", meaning he would finally be free of the pain of his illness. I wish the album had ended there, as the IABD outro is, in my opinion, the weakest track of the album, and kind of spoils the vibe left by AWT. I think AWT should have gone straight into Track 13. Overall, I would give MIH 8/10. 1 point lost for IABD outro, and ½ each knocked off for the averageness of My Life Has Been Saved, and the fact that I don't like YDFM. |

I actually think that the reprise of Its A Beautifull Day was a very good idea. The guitar, the drums, the bits from Seven Seas Of Rhye leave you with a sense that it's not over yet... I loved this song in the Wembley DVD. Very touching. |

I agree with drwinston here. Made In Heaven is a nice collection of remakes and leftovers, but certainly not a good Queen album. Mother Love, Winter's Tale, You Don't Fool Me are poor compositions. Beautiful day is a nice, unfinished idea. Let Me Live and My Life Has Been Saved are only average. I do like the cover songs, but they do not save this album. I rate Hot Space a lot higher than this. Sorry Brian. |

made in heaven is a very solid queen album. Mother love and a winter's tale are among my favorite queen songs, also the title track is superb. I rate this album with the very good queen albums, not their very best but pretty close. |

I think the problem with MIH is that there is virtually no bona fide hard rock- that had been a hallmark of most Queen albums but on the other hand it was a welcome return to the piano sound on songs such as Let Me Live and My Life Has Been Saved |

Newbie here. I love every song on MIH. The very most beautiful song on the album, and that I have heard in my lifetime of listening is A Winter's Tale. Written composed and keyboarded by Freddie, it has a much different, surreal sound and feel. I hear more appreciative beauty than sadness and self blame, putting himself down as in Mother Love (also painfully beautiful). AWT is so psychedelic it leads me to believe Freddie felt his morphine while writing it. Nevertheless the song exudes positivity, hope, and inner peace. I give AWT a 10+++. |

Hi funkyrake It's a fantastic album IMO. I'm more into Mother Love, but Winter's Tale, Let Me Live, My Life Has Been Saved and Its a Beautiful Day are special favourites. And I think Freddie's vocals on this album are super and quite beautiful. |

Reading a couple of the posts on here is making me really angry. Sure, guys, let's just take a shit all over Freddie Mercury and the kind of person he was. What in the hell makes people think Freddie wouldn't have liked the album? His vocals on the album beautiful. I'd go on, but none of these people are probably on here anymore so it would be pointless and silly. If they are still around for some reason, I'd like to see them come out and defend their comments. I'm mostly talking about drwinston and Sherwood Forest. |

Simply put, "Made in Heaven" is a gem! By this time -1995- there was no way i thought that Queen would release an album that could top "Sheer heart attack" or "Innuendo" on my personal list of the albums i most enjoyed listen to. I wasn't prepared for the experience. And it was an experience that i have never achieved before or after that album. I remember going to a store on the day of release and just out of curiosity i put the headphones on and started to listen to bits of it. I imediatelly stoped because i knew what was coming. It was brilliance and i wanted to save the best for when i get home alone. I listen to the album and i actually cried! When "Mother Love" came in my headphones, i just broke. When i heard "I Was Born to love you" my admiration for Brian just increased - if that was even possible - and by the end of the album i was speechless. I wasn't expecting something as brilliant as this. A work of genius! There was a review at the time that said that MIH was probably the most beautifull album in rock. I have to agree with this. Beautifull! The way they presented each track was just outstanding, and Brian was superb during them all and so was Roger and John. I was proud of the boys, and still am! |

I'm wondering if the posters you mentioned have actually heard the album at all, because if I had any doubts about Freddie's ability to pull off the songs, they would've been trumped as soon as I heard them. I hear unadulterated power in Freddie's performances of Mother Love and Too Much Love Will Kill you (this was recorded in '89 anyway, they clearly haven't done their research). Nothing that remotely resembles weakness. |

A quick review from me too,Its abeautiful day,a nice way for entering, the made in heaven, much better orchestration, let me live,a great song, shows that the band had a lot left to give, plus is the first and only time we had main vocals from the three guys, mother love a very touching ballad, the fact that this is Freddie's last recording gives it a big sentimental,my life has been saved, nothing special, they could leave it outside,IWBTLY,great great, much better than the original stupid poppy tune,HFE surely better with freddie's main vocals,TMLWKY rubbish,I prefer Brian's version,YDFM,get Queen even for a while back in the dance hall, and with a much better song than Another one...,A winters tale,a great way to close the story,I guess it was worth it |
