I just watched the Wembley 86 dvd and I dont understand why they would play Hello Marylou by Ricky Nelson. It doesnt suit them at all. Was Freddie a fan of his or something? I cant stand that song.
It's an old 1950's song, so maybe they wanted to throw in some nostalgic material for good measure (I love Tutti Frutti played live by Queen!)
And remember, they GREW UP with this sort of music, so...
why dont you just write brian may and tell him how much you hate, and maybe he'll just re-release it without that song because you dont like it....sound good?
GOon song by the way...I like that little medley they do there
I think Hello Mary Lou is a freakin incredible song. It absolutely fit them, considering that they wrote and performed songs from every genre of popular music around, and then some.

Exactly!!!Freddie was having a good laugh singing that song he was wearing the police-man hat!Dont you care about freddie having fun!Roger doesnt usually go on stage he usually stays at the back and plays his drums on his own.And john and brian were having a good laugh!Hello mery lou suits them and becuase brian likes that music and freddie, freddie sang it at the wembley concert!Tutti frutti was wicked i loved it.And baby your so square thats a god one.So that means you dont like '39 THEN BECUASE thats counrty western music. If you dont like it full stop it doesnt matter but if freddie mercury and the rest of the band members brian may and roger taylor and john deacon are having a good time at ther concert and laughing dont be mean about it because it matters that their having a greatttttt time! thankyou xxx

Well you are obviously a bore. Why watch it then if you hate it? I love that song much better than the crap now.
Queen have been playing classic rock covers since their early days.
My personal fave is still Tutti Frutti.
As for my least liked song of the Magic tour, I'd go with A Kind Of Magic. It doesn't work well live.
Baby I Don't Care
Tutti Frutti
'39
Hello Maryloo
Big Spender
Impromptu
They are all great songs.
I don't think there were bad songs in Magic Tour.
Correct me if I'm wrong
The only problem with Magic Tour is the fact that they don´t play A Kind Of Magic´s songs. Just 4 songs. Can you imagine One Year Of Love replacing Love Of My Life? Princes Of The Universe live could be nice. It was missing something new in this tour. The set list was boring.

Are you NUTS!
I have said many times on QZ that Hello Marylou is one of my all time favorite covers Queen did.
It's gorgeous and in my opinion, I was never a big Ricky Nelson fan and was not thrilled with his own version of the song, but thought Freddie and Queen just made it stunning and so pretty!

Yeah maybe it was that reason like Serry said, i mean think about it, they did grow up with this kinda music and bands do tend to use other singers hits in gigs, i think it was a good choice, you cant say it didnt suit them, whats ment to suit them then?
Your choice of music?
No one has to like everything that Queen sings but to say it didnt suit them? Nah.

did you see them live in 86??i did.i think akom absolutely fitted to the summer, open air feeling of that tour and all these little solos brian played through the song were absolutely magic.
also the hello mary lou stuff was really a surprise.
if you haven´t been there and only listen to wembley or the bootlegs, maybe you can not understand the special feeling of the magic tour.

Almost agree but...
Gimme All Your Lovin' tops even that- they maybe play it but Fred is def singing something else...
And if someone wants a really crappy cover by Queen should look no further than Berlin (same tour) and sbsolutely awful Immigrant Song... Maybe Plant heard it in 1992 and his Innuendo was a revange?
I agree that Freddie's voice is a bit ropey on the Wembley version of IWTBF but generally, it works well live. I would say the rock n'roll songs and the impromptu, not because they were that bad, but because they could have done a couple of old classics in the time taken, like Somebody To Love or Death On Two legs. Still, a fantastic tour though.
