Someone in their review of the NJ show mentioned that they didn't like the fact that Queen+ featured a rhythm guitarist. I was at the show and enjoyed it profusely but I agree with the poster. Why a Rhythm guitarist? I think Queen were at their best when it was just the four of them but even in the mid to late '80 Spike and some others started playin the Piano/Keyboards and at times rhythm guitar. My question is what are the pro's and con's to having a Rhythm Guitarist. Why does Queen+ now feature a rhythm guitarist when they hardly ever used one in the old days. To be fair, if I wasn't actually watching a concert I might not even know if there was a rhythm guitarist at all. So anyway any answers would be good both on the technical side and just your opinions on if you like it when Queen featured a rhythm guitarist, whether currently or in the mid to late 80's.
och it just fills out the sound. Sounds a bit "fuller" if there's such a word.
No point in a "should they/shouldn't they" discussion. It's a different band, a different time.
I had a great time at their gig this year.
Cheers
Paul
Certainly helps for the Bad Company tunes.
TYMD and Hammer To Fall really need one. And Paul only does a short spell on strings during CLTCL.
Some things are worth complaining about, and other things just sound like sour grapes. Did this person know there was a '5th Queenie' during the 80s shows?

... IMHO Jamie is a bit more than just a "rhythm guitarist" - try to listen to his guitar parts instead of Brian's on the ROTC CD (and I love the harmonies on LH) ...
FWIW
Or those little ornaments i.e. IWTBF, just before the words "It's strange, but it's true". If Brian was alone this wouldn't be possible... There are few as well during bo Rhap...
I don't mind, I think Jamie is doing a great job...

"Yes, Pat, I'd like to buy some vowels. Which ones? All of them."
A rhythm guitarist is particularly important for Brian and Roger these days.
They really need one to keep the rhythm.
Well, not all the time.
When they play playback (ie Radio Gaga, Bohemian Rhapsody,...) of course they don't need anyone.
