link Here's some caps I made. Sorry they came out bad. I really suck at capping. Dual-layer It runs 2:12:28 Imagine runs 4:00 Full menu music is a bit of the 'Beautiful Day' remix, but running only 36 seconds and just the instrumental part. Looks alright so far, sounds great.. just kinda lacks excitement since there's no bonus disc. Was $19.99 at Best buy. You can get it cheaper elsewhere. |
Maz 18.10.2005 12:20 |
$13.99 from Amazon if you hurry. Of course, I have to wait until November for it to arrive, but them's the breaks. |
Jjeroen 18.10.2005 12:37 |
So, I reckon it's a single disc afterall?? Damn... bollocks... Where are the tracks from the open air shows, as they promised?? Surely they did not talk about just ONE song! |
Penis - Vagina 18.10.2005 12:49 |
Yes, single disc. At least it has a booklet though. I was worried it wouldn't even have one. But it's identical to the CD version booklet, just different shape & size of course, and slightly different info. I just noticed there's a closing credits track listed. "It's A Beautiful Day" remix by Ross Robertson and Sergey Tarakanov. So at least that's there.. even if it is out of order :-P I'm not going to actually watch the whole thing until this afternoon/evening. Oh, and 'Imagine' is in PCM and DTS as well :) |
Penis - Vagina 18.10.2005 15:59 |
After watching about 30 minutes of it, I have to say.. I LOVE IT!. My only complaint is the fast editing style on faster songs.. hard to absorb what you're looking at when it changes so fast. The quality seems fantastic so far. Watching via S-video on a standard telly. I think I can safely say I'm happy with it. Wish there was something more on a 2nd disc to compliment it, but the concert itself rocks :) |

Does the 5.1 mix actually USE the center channel? If it does, I have to give up my Immortals 7" record :9 |
Future Manager 18.10.2005 17:48 |
Is there anything on the DVD that's not on the CD like a decent intro to the show (IABD remix and/or Lose Yourself) or does it start right into Reaching Out (= lame)? There must be something if the playing time posted above (2:12:28) is correct, because it's 5 minutes longer than the total time of the 27 tracks from the ROTC CD in my playlist (2:07:25). EDIT: Whoops, didn't read that post above about that credit sequence until now, that must be it then... |
Penis - Vagina 18.10.2005 19:46 |
Richard: I'll check on the DTS mix soon.. was thinking of doing that anyway :) And yes, interestingly it does run longer by 2 to 3 minutes even before the credits.. part might be extra applause, but I'd safely say it's 2 minutes longer.. and I noticed bits here and there which weren't on the CD. Also, the mix is definitely different. I listened only to the PCM (I'll have to check the DTS by extracting the channels) One big thing was the "Ooh yeah" stuff by Freddie at the end of Bo Rhap is not there on the DVD.. or it's buried in the mix. Incidently I LOVED the show. I can't really express how much I loved it. I cried 3 times :) Edit: And yes it starts exactly the same as the CD. |
Penis - Vagina 18.10.2005 20:50 |
Hmm, believe it or not the mix seems to be an actual 5.1 remix! I extracted 'Wishing Well' and low and behold, the center channel is just drums, bass and a bit a vocal! I'll email you Richard with some links to have a listen if you'd like :) This is amazing.. what I'd always hoped for in a live 5.1 mix.. no crowd noise in the center.. they're still on the right & left front though :-P |

is it just me or...they sayd that the extras included highlights from the open air concerts? just imagine as a bonus??i am seriously considering NOT to buy this dvd.... not even a a backstage documentary, some rehersals....and they played Imagine because of the terrorist attack in London...if the attack never had happened, this was going to be a dvd with no bonus material.if we can call one 4 minute song as a bonus.. |
Jjeroen 19.10.2005 06:22 |
Indeed they did promise a LOT more bonus material! *Live music from Budapest (tavasi ea) (HAS been filmed!) *Tour documentary (DoRo HAVE filmed!) *Faninterviews (DoRo DID film them!) *Live music from Lisboa, Cologne, Hyde Park AND Arnhem! (Don't know about the others but in Arnhem the show from Say It's Not True up untill Radio GaGa HAS been filmed and stored!) |

I smell an upcoming special edition ! it's a rip off ! Let us also rememberw were supposed to get : - Bo Rhap download for free (and we had to wait for months to burn the Europe Live CD's, dammit !) - Downloads from Outdoor gigs - QPR's hear as far the setlist (remember the poll ?). Well, I don't believe anybody asked for Last Horizon ! Long live QPR, but enough with broken promises ! |

And they axed Under Pressure : it's a red card. |

THOSE were suppose to be as bonus... After they changed the date, guys from Darkness couldn't make it... |

Just survived watching the 140 minute DVD without having a stroke or something. The Fast editing is distracting and unnecessary- it really ruins the experience..please focus on a shot of a band member for at least 10 seconds...not two. There where far to many sweeping crowd shots not enough of the band. And no shots of me who was in the upper tier row 19 at the show ;-) The sound was EXCELLENT. Bonus of imagine--very nice |
Sportzfan76 19.10.2005 09:54 |
I grabbed my DVD of ROTC yesterday and was able view some of it already. (It was like being there Sunday night all over again!) I agree with the reviews above with regard to production and 5.1 sound quality. (Displaying on a 60" HD screen wasn't too shabby either) :'). I have no problem with the use of the fast-editing, IMO this technique works well and expresses the energy of the show. BoRap with "taped" Freddie is a major highlight, especially the conclusion where PR sings alternating lines w/Freedie and Paul's voice ends up finishing very strong! Nice Job. I think Brian intentionally teases Its Late prior to Hammer!...and a touch of Love Token (I think) leads into FBG. ps. I enjoyed the inclusion of AKOM in the DVD, IMO Queen always did a great job on the live rendition. |

And thanks for the 5.1 rips, darling! I really enjoyed "Imagine"! Shame this PC I'm on doesn't have Goldwave or Adobe Audition, so I can't piece it together, but I get home in 3 days, so I can put it together there and then! But thanks! Now all I gotta do is wait for the DVD I ordered off of eBay (from USA), which was also incidentally (apparently) shipped on Monday! |

They must be planning some sort of other release from the tour. I actually e-mailed Justin Shirley-Smith this past week about whether he and the Queen guys would look at BD as a format to (re-)release their albums on in high definition surround sound (which I pointed out to him can go up to 192/24 - 7.1, especially in DTS HD) to compliment the DVD-Audio releases, and he said that they would be looking at the new format(s) with interest. He imagines that the menus will probably be nicer, and I agreed with him, since I saw a little bit of the Java features that Blu-Ray implements for its "interactive menus" in a video from a German electronics fair recently, and it's cool! |

Where's the Majesty of Queen in just one DVD? it's 2005!! :( for live at wembley 1986 there are two dvds with lots of bonuses, On Fire is again double....this time there were the chance to make it unforgettable and.....? i'm sure it's great in itself, but expectations are higher than reality. |

As well as "You can't always get what you want", which is always unfortunately true with Queen / QPL |

I've converted the DTS to Dolby Digital today, and just finished listening up through 'Last Horizon'. Quite impressive I must say. Not too much panning effects until the guitar solo, then the 5.1 really shines, with Brian's delays panning around :) Even though they did finally use the center.. it appears very quiet in the mix. I'm almost thinking they just stuck a bit of quiet stuff there to shut up those of us who've complained about them not using it at all ;) Also thought I'd mention that you can see Michelle several times in and around the acoustic section ('39, Love of My Life). I'm gonna get some caps of her and see if the tribute site would like to have them... unless someone already has. |
inu-liger 20.10.2005 22:50 |
Jeffrey darling, could I make one more request? BohRap from ROTC, in 5.1 :) If you have time, that is... |

Penis - Vagina 21.10.2005 13:10 |
First I extract the files using the settings for 'all 6 channels' but I do not save each channel to a separate file. This creates what I call a multichannel wav. A single file containing all 6 channels. (Edit: and I had to do each chapter as a separate file.. I was getting mute files after the first 3 songs by doing it as one big file) (Edit #2: Using DVD Audio Extractor) Then this multichannel wav imports into NeroVision, and with the 5.1 plug-in, it somehow knows where to put the channels. I was as shocked as anybody else that it actually works :) Now, I haven't been able to get the video part converted to a new DVD.. a combination of not having enough HD space, and the time it would take. NeroVision won't just leave it as is and allow me to add the new audio.. it insists upon re-encoding the whole thing. So what I did is make a Slide Show DVD, using just plain black images, and timed each slide to be the duration of the song.. this creates the chapters where I need them. So I basically turned it into an audio-only disc in Dolby Digital 5.1 Last night I synced this with the DVD playing in my 2nd player, and voila! |
PieterMC 21.10.2005 15:31 |
Thanks. I need to see if I have that 5.1 plugin for Nero. Not sure if I do or not. |

Last 22 October some Mexican fans had the privilege to attend The Return Of The Champions premier at the cinema, we were really impressed by the show, what can I say… I must start by stating that for many of us was a unique experience seeing them on the big screen, all this wonderful shots, the camera moving , flying, trying to take us where we would really like to be, or at least, doing its best. The sound was wonderful and both Brian and Roger are just superb and skilled musicians !!! Roger and Brian’s faces showing all the time how moved and happy they were at the moment. Each chord, note, sound and song, bringing their energy, their soul to us fans…How could we even think of them staying at home not playing, not doing what they love, they adore to do? They, as musicians need to do music to feel alive, it was evident. And personally, I am glad there was this chemistry , this "spark" with PR , he and the other musicians did it fine too.Although the image at the cinema froze and slid a few times, we could not help clapping as if they were actually live at the venue, we could not help singing along those fantastic songs, even a baby who was there (oh, yes, funnily enough) , seemed to be singing along “A Kind of Magic”…wow!!! Brian said on the video that Freddie’s mom was there, and I think that Freddie is still and will be always with them and with us too. He is in their hearts , he is in our hearts and I am happy Brian and Roger have taken enough courage to try to overcome his physical absence and have been able to carry on.They are still such great musicians , they are still so full of energy, of magic. All I can say is:Thank you EMI and the Queen Fan Club Mèxico for giving us the opportunity to be there that unforgettable night, and most of all, thank you very much Queen+PR for sharing your magnificent art with us!!! Regards, p.s.It is thanks to technology that we can actually be with the group onstage.I remember having seen Queen in 1981 in Puebla, Mèxico. The stage was so far away, we could hardly spot Brian, John or least of all Roger; we could only see Freddie due to his red trousers (there were no big screens at that time...).Oh, but the sound was amazing, of course .Wowwww!!! Their music was superb (to me , it still is-indeed!!!).In spite of all that, it was a unique experience and it is still the best concert I have ever been to.It is a treasure in my heart and soul. Fortunately, for all ,past and new, old and young generations it is possible now to enjoy their live shows even more, thanks to these technological achievements. |

As a technology-dinosaur can someone please help me out ? I would like to extract the audio portion of a DVD in order to play it on a conventional CD player (.ie in a car). I have NERO and Dvd Shrink but I can't seem to get these to do what I need. Any info would be appreciated. Thanx. |
