I think its a shame that Queen didn't get in on the Rockstar INXS gig. Sure, its just a popularity karaoke contest, but it wouldve been an interesting way to introduce Queen to new audiences. It mightve injected vigour into the band with a potential for *gasp* new songs.
With Paul Rodgers, the band comes off as 3 old men, and there is zero interest in him in north america.
Rockstar was just the type of sellout that Queen needed...
As much as we would like to think that Queen are selling out, I think they know at times when to draw the line.
Now, if they drew the line more often, we'd be better off.
Brian actually said that they'd been asked to do this kind of programme before the INXS one came about and they declined. So, it's clear that it wasn't going to happen.
Peace,
Adam.
I dont know why brian has been so opposed to the the idea.
Its not like they've kept their legacy pristine (e.g. touring without John, lame charity gigs, greatest hits 3, WWRY musical etc.)
It strikes me that if they were going to do anything for publicity at the expense of their artistic integrity, this wouldve been it.
and besidies, i kinda liked the show...
I loved the show, but don't think it would work for Queen. As I've said before, I wouldn't be surprised if Eddie Van Halen is looking up Mark Burnett's phone number as we speak.

Yeah its a shame they didn't have the good manners to lock themselves up in the attic and never be seen nor heard from again. I mean, really, who the hell do they think they are???
I still don't think that Brian and Roger were ever really looking for a singer - I really don't. If they were, don't you all think they would have found someone eons ago?
Obviously Brian & Roger felt Paul had something meaningful to contribute - something clicked or jelled - they say it felt right for them, like the pieces of their puzzle fell into place. I also think it was an unexpected surprise for all of them.
In any event, I'm glad it happened. As for Rockstar Queen - that would be too much like finding a replacement for Freddie, and that's something that Brian and Roger (and especially John) would never do.
I wish they would do it. It was on one of the channels here in america about a week ago that they were in talks again baout it. Had about a 10 minute talk about it on the E entertainment channel.
Reason I wish it is Because I'm sure I'd a really good chance to win. I's 36, have been singing for years and singing queen for longer thatn that. I sound just liek Freddie.
Please don't take me as conceded. I don't want to come across that way, but I really do sound exactly like Freddie. Range and everything, I have recordings to prove it. I've been studying and singing with Queens songs for so long it almost seems like forever.
When I heard about the Rockstar thing, a week or so back on TV, I almost fell out of the bed. My wife immediately told me I was going to try out.
I really hope it happens.
Come on Ray, you can do better than that. Nobody's suggested they lock themselves in the closet or go and rot away until they die. The 5ive, Pink, Britney, Beyonce, Robbie stuff, endless remakes of songs best left alone and a lame musical HAVE tarnished their legacy. It's great if they do RockStar Queen or whatever to bring their music to the 3 people on the planet who haven't heard it on the endless compilation discs they throw it on. But please, as I believe you are one of the really knowledgeable people on this board, you can't dismiss someone's ideas so easily. Queen are a business, nothing to do with creativity now, they're a nostagia act touring to improve and cement their place in history. I'm not against that, but Queen at their best were the most creative group ever. Flogging 30+ year old songs, no matter how good they are is beneath them.
If INXS were really honestly in it for the music, they would have found a singer on their own and auditioned people (like the decent part of Guns n Roses with Scott Weiland, or when Rage got in Chris Cornell etc). They would have took as long as it took to rehearse, get to know each other again with the new person, get some new songs, record them, put it out and see if the public wants it, tour and then see where that takes them.
I dont care for INXS in anyway, but I think they have been totally dis-respectful to Michael Hutchence by finding a nw front-man in the way they did. It's like saying "oh well, old Mick wasnt that important anyway, let's do Pop Idol and get in some second rate wannabe, and then we'll use the ratings we got for this to sell an album that will be shit".
I dont think I'd forgive Bri, Rog and/or John for letting Queen do that. But, then again, who could replace Freddie? No one. INXS never were, are or will be as big as Queen anyway, and doing what they've done just shows that more.

Can you share some on this site?
Anyway Rockstar Queen will never happen, they would loose their fan base by doing something as cheesy as that. The entire Rockstar show is about as far removed from being about rock as you can get.
The winner was obviously picked weeks in advance by INXS but they had to carry on with the charade that was the show. Hell even that guys song Pretty Vegas was cowritten with one of the members of INXS. No favoritism there then.

I'm really interested to hear you say that...what makes you think that? How do you know Pretty Vegas was co-written with INXS? I know the backing track was written by INXS; that was one of the workshops, to use the backing track and write a melody with lyrics. Or have you heard something I haven't? Certainly I was a bit suspicious about JD winning; he was such a cock at the start, couldn't work with a group either (as demonstrated when PV was written).
