Any responses from the NJ show? Any new songs? TELL US ALL! |
dogwood 16.10.2005 23:45 |
Fantastic. It was a sold out show at first then they realeased tickets on Friday. I guess they sold most of them because I was hard pressed to see any empty seats. Same set list of Aruba. Brian May was genuine when he said tonight that it's a dream come true to come to America and play in a big way. I think Brian May seems to like playing big places...and who can blame him. Critiques: Paul Rodgers was barely audible. Bass player was awful. Sound was sporadic. Volume would go up and down. Brian always screws up the end of Bohemian Raphsody live..he did it again. Roger Taylor sang too many songs. The show ran about 2 or 3 songs too long. Good stuff: Song selection was fantastic. Bad Company songs were on par or if not better performed than the bulk of Queen songs. Free songs and Bad Company songs had an amazing reception. Brian May ran like a mad man...looked like he was at his peak. Roger Taylor played well but should stick to playing drums. They're going to have a hard time filling arenas next year. They should stick with sheds and they should be fine. I mean if Journey and Styx can tour...Queen should do fine. Trust...they're not playing The Garden in NY anytime soon. It looks too much of a novelty tour, sadly. I hope Paul Rodgers does some original material with Queen to get the juices going. |
Bromo 17.10.2005 00:13 |
Hey there, In a word AWESOME. Stood through the whole show...sang every song. It was great. The newer songs were received really well I thought. The Free and Bad Co. songs were well received. My only disappointment was no It's Late. I realistically didn't expect it...but it would be a dream come true. It would be perfect after BoRhap before the classic rock fest that is the encore. PR's sound did drop out from time to time. Nothing too distracting though(and I've yet to go to show with audio glitches). But from where I was I thought it was a pretty good audio mix. I believe this show could have legs. With the wealth of material from both artists, there is no reason why they can't do another couple of tours. I have to respectfully disagree with the comment about them not being able to do MSG. Had Paul McCartney, U2 and the Stones not monopolized the place this month I think a MSG show would've outsold a NJ show. I think the sheds is what they should aim for...but with the ocassional large market arena thrown into the mix. This was a lot of fun...let's do it again next year 8-) Goodnight everyone...hope you had as much fun as I did tonight. Thomas |

was a great show.Paul was under the sound most of the night which was hard to believe with the rest that he has had.Bo Rhap brought the house down.complete sellout!anyone who thinks this band sellout here is missing brain cells for sure.downer-my wife who loves Queen was pissy and did not come.but-The Show Must Go On!you UK queenies would have been proud,we did a great job singing and the band seemed amazed by the response.later |

After seeing them at brixton and seeing them now, boy have they matured. Brian was on tonight, looking to be very into it. I have not seen him into any shows like he was tonight. He nailed almost every solo on cue. he was awesome. He sums the night up. Roger was amazing to. Paul was off tonight in the beginning. Sound was off a tad, a few technical clitches, but Brian stepped up tonight like a man possessed. Nice seeing them sell it out. Didnt see an empty seat. What a time! |

Blood On Your Face 17.10.2005 02:00 |
Oh... oh... the night comes down... so many thoughts... about lost youth... and lost friends... this is a special band with fans that share a special kind of "kinship"... I wasn't sure how'd they pull it off without turning it into a funeral... ot totally embarassing themselves... it was tasteful and thoughtful... well done if not exactly Queen of '78... still... I felt the thrill of my younger days... my Queen days... and I could close my eyes as Tie Your Mother Down filled the arena... close my eyes and fancy myself a would be rockstar again... like so many others I am sure... and it felt good... and it was good company. |
Mr. Scully 17.10.2005 02:43 |
"Same setlist as Aruba" vs. "Brian played '39" - so, who's right? Does that mean it was the same setlist as Aruba except that Brian also sang '39 before LOML just like during the EU tour? |
deleted user 17.10.2005 02:49 |
This was my dream come true... first time EVER. Brian was fantastic, Roger too (Paul - well I had no idea who he was, I didn't like him doing Freddie's moves with the microphone stand). I loved Last Horizon a lot... I promise pictures later (if they come out... I was sitting way too far). DREAM COME TRUE!!! PS - Roger still can not write good lyrics ;) but we love him just as much, don't we!!! |
Mr_Bad_Guy_91 17.10.2005 05:18 |

Scully: yes, same as Aruba plus '39 before Love of my Life. as for the show...I was expecting it to be nothing short of amazing, and I was still blown away! Live recordings really don't do their show justice. |

That was an AWESOME concert! I brought a bunch of my friends (mostly casual Queen fans) and they said it was the best concert they've ever seen--even better when we all went to see the Eagles last year in the same venue! Definately the best concert I've ever seen. I wasn't looking forward to Brian's guitar solo (I thouht they'd scrap it) but it was actually quite good, going from the old solo to Chinese Torture to an instrumental guiar version of A Winter's Tale--during that part they displayed the night sky on a screen and a disco ball shed hundreds of beams of light across the arena, making the whole crowd look like a bunch of stars. There was so much energy going on there, I loved being able to take part in the hand motions of Radio Ga Ga, and because I had awesome floor seats (6 feet or so away from the catwalk!) I could stand up the whole time and see Brian and Roger really up-close! Does anyone have a track listing from last night? (AHH WHAT A GREAT CONCERT!) |

It's not instrumental version of A Winter's Tale, it's Brian's solo number called "Last Horizon" from 1992 "Back To The Light" BUT what you said got me thinking- there IS something similar there... |

Oh, I've never heard Last Horizon, but I thought it sounded similar to the melody of A Winter's Tale, which would have been pretty fitting. |

From the tail gate party in lot 22 to the end of the show it was a great time. Yes there were technical glitches and mistakes from the band but who cares. The energy from both PR, Queen and espescially the fans made the show one of the best I have ever been to. |

I had a great time, too. So happy to hear even the short version of 39! And did you guys notice the full moon? I thought that was Freddie smiling on the proceedings! While we were waiting to get into the arena it was huge and low, moving in and out of the clouds. Afterwards, it was bright and high up in the sky. It was a wonderful night. |

He motioned me over and said, "Now why would you want my picture?" I said, "Because you are THE MAN!!!" I've been a Queen fan for a VERY long time now. Last night was the first time I've been able to see them live. Without a doubt, it's the best concert I've been to. Queen definitely rocked. I wasn't terribly impressed with Paul Rogers' rendition of the songs, although, in all fairness, I think I went in there expecting to hear Freddie. Just the feeling of standing there, in the midst of 30-50,000 fans, and everyone clapping in unison to Radio-Ga-Ga was a dream come true. I also brought my 14 year old son to the concert and he loved it as well. It's amazing how Queen and their music can touch and be appreciated by all ages of people. Lisser - Can I also get a copy of your DVD when you have a chance? I would love to re-live last night over and over again. |

I think, for my money, the funniest part of the night was when Brian introduced Roger for " Say it's not True" and as they walked past each other Brian held out his had for Roger to slap, with Brian pulling it back at the last second and running it through his hair. It could only be seen if you were sitting on Brian's side of the stage towards the back of the stage. HILARIOUS! |

Hey, My Saloon The reason why Brian pulled is hand back was when Roger was walking back he shook hands with someone who put condoms in his hand. Roger was showing it to Brian. Brian though a handshake was coming. Brian saw it at the last second and pulled his hand away. I was cracking up. Anyone who was there email me at mercury00@aol.com. I was in the 3rd row left side. I will say I went to the show not expecting much. Hated the thought of trekking from LI to NJ. Only went because my wife never saw them and it was a treat for her. But I was really, really, really impressed with the show (as was she). Saw them in 75 (Avery Fisher Hall) and 76 (Beacon Theater, 1st row!!!!)in NYC and those memories are still with me. I just wish they'd do some older stuff for us old timers. Brian's guitar solo had a lot of Brighton Rock in it that brought back memories. Highly recommend anyone, who is even a remote fan, take this show in if they can. I will disagree on the sellout though. It looked full with everyone standing (we stood all night except for acoutic set) but I can't see how. People couldn't give these tickets away on E-bay. Got my floor tickets for less than 1/2 of face value from some broker in California. |

I decided to get tickets for them as a birthday present. They had GREAT seats, about 12 rows from the stage. My husband and I were a few sections behind them on the floor. We were ALL singing and shouting all night long! It was great, since I knew all the songs (hearing them played over and over at home!). I only wish now that I had been a fan when Freddie was alive... he must have been awesome to see in person. The band did a beautiful job last night and I appreciate Paul Rodgers stepping in so that this ocncert could be possible. Certainly, no one can replace Freddie. Yea it was pretty cool. I liked the whole setlist minus bad company, his other songs were cool. Basically they were 4 open seats in front of me, so some old guy came along and stole one, and the guy on the otherside kept farting which was rather annoying, kinda hard to hold your breath for 15 seconds and to sing along at the same time, the guy that sat in front of my friend cliffy was half drunk and was bobbling back and forth and had a sec. guy come along and take the ciggs he was lighting up. Hotel was OK, be kinda cool if there were more thing arounds it like a sidewalk =), that bar was cool...figured out after 10 min it was a gay bar, lol only gross thing was the used condoms in the parking lot, funny to see lisser flirt with the bouncer ^ ^ This was the 1st time after a concert I never seen any cabs around, so Bob (sir GH) and his friend walked around with us, basically we walked around the whole building as every one was pointing to that end, to that end, we did get to be next to the bass player as he was meetting family and friends from the NYC area in the back, near the bar, I seen Brian looking depressed with a shitload of backstage pass people all around him and spike alone at the bar, shared a cab with bob back to the hotel, 1/3 of a mile for 14 bucks...funny how bob said 14, wtf it only cost 12 the way there...shit cost me 15 there! lol The tailgate was cool, I just love windy days, it does suit my hair quite nice! I would have talked more, but with it being windy my hearing level was down below the 10% as the proccesser microphone are horrible in the wind. I did talk to Trip for a min afther show, I shaked his hand and asked for a copy of the recording, he said sorry the band gets it first, he did have a nice laptop. Was funny that Erin and Pieter room was across from us =) the weird part was watching the FSU game when you guys went to Charlie browns for dinner and those 40 year old guys asking me to play might and magic with them, I took the free beer and just watched the game with them, lol Was cool to me Bob, Lisser,Pual, Danny,Erin,Pieter, arron and his GF(wife?) and his Kiss friend, lol and forever88, there were some more but Im not good with names ^^ |

Had a great time this weekend. Had a great drive up from Cincinnati until I got to Newark and MapQuest's directions totally sucked a big one. Took forever to find the freakin' hotel, but finally got there at 2AM. Was great going to NYC on Saturday with Erin & Pieter, even though we didn't really get to do anything other than walk around, which was a bummer. Kudos to Pieter for his subway expertise. ;-) Thanks to him, we didn't end up in the Bronx...lol Had fun Saturday night at that "classic rock club across the street"....lol The concert was awesome! I have no complaints whatsoever. Couldn't have asked for better seats. The boys were dead-on all night, IMO. Setlist was really no surprise, although I was hoping for Now I'm Here and Shooting Star. Thought maybe they'd add those 2 for the U.S. shows, but I'm not complaining. I enjoyed seeing Brian + Roger play the Bad Company songs. Glad to see they played Rock & Roll Fantasy. For me, the only cons about the show was that beer was $7.00 (so much for getting a buzz...lol), and the loud, obnoxious drunk fan behind me the whole show who was clearly anti-Paul. (The line I heard whenever a Bad Company song was played: "Man, Fuck That Shit." And whenever Freddie was shown on the screen: "OMG!!! Freddie, Freddie!! OMG!! Fucking A! YES!! OMG!") Was great to meet and hang out with Cindy, Erin, Pieter, William (yeah, I'm the "Kiss friend"...lol), William's wife and his friend, Aaron and Sarah, and Lisser and Mirenda. All in all, it was truly a weekend I'll never forget! |

I'm trying not to be bitter, but I sure am dissapointed that Queen in NY and Aruba they: 1.) Took 3 Queen songs and 1 Paul song off the list, and added only 2 songs, both Pauls. 2.) Refuse to play anything from the catalogue that wasn't a hit except for 39 and I'm In Love With My Car which they always toured with. 3.) Continue to follow the same basic structure as the Europe tour and new cd. I'm going to L.A. which will probably be the same. I will love it regardless, but it would be nice to have at least one Queen surprise. The thing that makes me sickest about the raise in PR tracks is that they probably are doing it because he is close to as successful as Queen in the USA. Just another example of how bad American taste in music is. If nothing else, they should at least add Now I'm Here to the setlist. |
Fenderek 18.10.2005 06:00 |
They rehearsed and were supposed to play both NOW I'M HERE and SEVEN SEAS OF RHYE with guys from darkness in Hyde Park... So who knows- maybe at some poinbt they still could get back to those songs...? |

I'm still not convinced it was a "gay bar." At home, we have bars where girls are making out with each other all over the place, but I wouldn't call them "gay bars." The music sucked, I can confirm that. It made me want to bang my head against the wall numerous times. The shots were too small, but tasted yummy. I did NOT flirt with the bouncer either!! I just told him that he looked like Nick Lachey (Jessica Simpson's husband.) He was very friendly and even ordered a pizza for Cindy!!! Mirenda like his tattoos and made him take his shirt off so she could see them. That's what happened!! bwuahahahaa!! |

Long time fan. I have seen Queen live 7 times on US Tours before - '76, '77, '78 '80 and 1982. I was unsure how the audience would respond to the band w/PR. I think the band was unsure on how the audience would respond to them as well. I agree with the comments that Rogers seemed to loosen up after the band performed Bad Company and it was received very well. For the most part the whole performance went over very well! Great to see Brian (haven't seen him live since his solo album tour in early 90s) and awesome to see and hear Roger again. The light show was top notch as usual for Queen. I was disapointed there were no pyrotechnics at the end of TYMD or after the recorded section of BoRap, but that was minor. Bad Company was one of very few bands I never had a chance to see live in the '70s....Well to hear some of their better songs banged out by Queen was an excellent part of the show. IMO a few songs like Its Late or Now I'm Here or even Dragon Attack would round out this show. All in all a great, great show...one of the best in recent memory - probably only topped by the 3 hour performance RUSH provided on their R30 Tour. |
YourValentine 18.10.2005 12:02 |
Hmm, I would have loved to hear William's accent:) I hear he never makes spelling errors when he talks, lol. And I would have loved to meet all of you, argh. Some day we will all meet up for the ultimate Queen party. Speaking of accents, you should hear all us Europeans :) |

Kinda unrelated to the show,as I was "enjoying" the 12 hour drive back to Kentucky,I stopped at a wal- mart somewhere in Pennsylvania,I went to the electronics department, and they had the return of the champions DVD out a day early,so I snatched that right up...of course,by the time I got home it was almost midnight, but I stayed up and watched it anyway:) Hurry up with that video,Melissa :) Once again,Erin,Pieter,William and company...it was great meeting you guys, hey and the party in Shay's room Saturday night made up for the whole "classic rock bar" debacle. |

Wooo hooooooo cornhole!!! Mirenda and I are unstoppable!!! I'll be going as fast as possible with the tape. I watched it twice last night and wow! I was mad at myself in the beginning for jumping around like a monkey. I just could not stop myself!! There were times I gave the camera to Mirenda too when I just had to see for myself what was going on and she was a little shakey, but better than nothing. I can say that the sounds quality is top notch thanks to my little Sony!!! You all will not be disappointed in that except for when I had to hide the camera when security came around. There are a couple shots of my shoes!! Bonus I guess. ;) Last night I spent most of the time guarding the cassettes from Anthony. He was very interested in them and if he had gotten a hold of them, they would have been mince meat. |

tin pigeon time first off -- i was most excited and grateful to meet some more zoners...... nice to put a face to a name, handle , an accent, a smile, a handshake, a posting and so on..... concert wise-- being the stubbron one in short sleeves shivering.... once i warmed up from the tailgate... i had a terrific time... suppose after as many times as i have seen Queen live... I look at things differently... not really the best way to say that...maybe this is a better attempt... i was watching ya'll, and those who never had a chance to see them, the excitement, the yelling, the singing, the adulation .... worth every penny spent.....you guys rocked... glad to see 39 there.... me... i would have not gone the 'safe' route and mixed it up more ...its america for gods sake....(oh i can hear ya'll now.... *LOL*) 20+ years... you owed us at least 15 more songs would i do it again... oh yea! |

The show was absolutly incredible....Brian, Roger and Paul really rocked the place....I'd say 98% of the crowd stood the entire time and was screaming, clapping, fist pumping, and just having a fantastic time........Just want to thank Brian and Roger and Paul for making this happen and giving me such an incredible Rock experience.....Loved every minute of it.....my only criticism is that I wished it was longer....the song Bad Company is such a nice addition - Roger's drums sound incredible on it... |
