In this song it sounds like its taken from a solo concert Brian did sometime in his solo period, does anyone no what concert? Where is Memphis? Also a guy Brian calls him "Mr Hopple" is he from a band called Moot the hopple somethink that gos with hopple in it lol I reconise this guys voice... he says "Ofcourse we werent all superstars....there was a time when we were comaners just like you....and we use to eat...hahaha" lol! Just wondering thats all, thanks. |

All the way from Memphis is a Mott the hoople song, Mott the Hoople is a very good glam rock band. Queen also supported Mott the Hoople in 1974 ( interesting fact: queen sopported Mott the Hoople which included Mick Ralphs... Mick Ralphs left to join Bad Company (paul rodgerss) ) |
Penetration_Guru 10.10.2005 18:00 |
Further spoonfeeding... "Mr Hoople" is aka Ian Hunter, lead singer of Mott The Hoople, on whose solo album some of Queen appear. He also attended the little known "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert" in 1992, singing the obscure "All The Young Dudes" with fellow young thrusting ingenue David Bowie. And just because there's people cheering at the end doesn't automatically mean it's a concert performance. There's such a thing as "editing" |
Penetration_Guru 10.10.2005 18:03 |
Oh, and Memphis is a suburb of Googlesville. Hardly ever heard of as Cher never sang about it and Elvis never lived there... |

All The Way From Memphis comes from Mott the Hoople's brilliant 1973 album, Mott. This album was Mick Ralphs last with the band before he formed BadCo with PR. The album is a great mix of ball crunching guitar riffs and aching sweet ballads with great lyrics by Ian Hunter. Mott the Hoople were certainly one of them great overlooked Brit bands. |
Bob-Plant 11.10.2005 10:53 |
Queen (Brian, Roger and Freddie) sang background on "You nearly did me in" on Ian's solo album "All American Alien Boy", a great CD (That album has a beautiful song called "Irene Wilde"-I don't know if this song was more popular in the UK, but most Americans never seem to have heard it). I think Queen were working on ADATR album in '76 when they stopped by Ian's studio to see him and they just added backing vocals, but I'm not sure where I read that. |
Serry... 11.10.2005 11:02 |

Arlene dear , it is impossible for a recording from an event which took place in 2004 to be included on a recording which was released nearly 6 years earlier. THINK ABOUT IT. Look folks Arlene's a journalist. Now in her eyes that means she knows everything , in Brian's eyes she's scum and in everyone else's it means she she's unlikely to be able to tell fact from the fiction anyway. Arlene, If we go back to the original first post and question, it was referring to the track on Another World. So perhaps you got confused. You were the first to mention the Rant Band and Brians guest appearance, and even posted a link to Ian Hunters Website, which has nothing to do with Another World or the question posted by It's A Hard Life You were completely wrong in the information you supplied. Right... just to get the record straight... the Another World version of All The Way From Memphis has been edited to sound like a live performance when it wasn't... the bit where Ian Hunter goes "we weren't always superstars..." etc was actually lifted from the Mott The Hoople Live album, which suprised me a bit when I first heard it - I thought hang on I've 'eard that before somewhere! (this album came out remastered recently as a 30th anniversary edition and is superb by the way!) Brian then guested with the Ian Hunter and Rant Band on the dvd in 2004... does that clear things up a bit? :o) |

That's as idiotic as asking him if he thinks Freddie will rejoin Queen again. (Either that, or ask him about the stripper(s) he was seen with) That's a stereotype journalist question. I bet you are better than that.I was only kidding about those 'questions'. I'm sure that if I were to ever interview John Deacon, which is as likely as Brian May admitting that he has an 'overdub complex', I'd ask much better questions than those. But then, I doubt I'd come up with anything original, in terms of questions, since there probably isn't too much else to ask him these days. |

Fenderek wrote: Yeah- how to make people not picking on you? Start picking on someone else... Bravo Arlene- this is as pathetic as it gets... Inu didn't have to share this "interview". He didn't do it as a journbalist, he did it for himself. The question WAS weird, but... so what? If you're a journalist (I doubt), make some effort and interview Peter yourself!!! He didn't do it and said "I'm an official journalist"- he did it as Queen (and anime it seems) fan. And than shared it. And look who's talking- copy/paste master... It's a cheap shot my dear, very pathetic IMO...Here here! Yes, it is true that I DIDN'T have to share it with the people here. I could have just as easily kept it for myself (and I do admit that there is another short recording with another question or two I did ask as an afterthought with Peter, and I haven't even bothered to transcribe it, nor will I probably ever, given Arlene's attitude. And these weren't anime questions unlike the other ones I DID ask earlier that evening) But I felt that also if I said anything about the meeting but not proved it, that it would be passed off as a "show-off" moment on my part. And yes, Fenderek, I am an anime fan as you correctly guessed. But I asked the question partly based on the fact that Freddie WAS an admirer of Japan and its culture, among other things, and you can even read in my interview where Peter DID say that Japan was Freddie's "spiritual home"! I asked the question because I felt that if Freddie was indeed still alive today, and if he were to have kept up with what's been happening lately in Japan, I'm sure he would've no doubt taken notice of the increasing popularity of anime, and not just that, but the mainstream artists who almost regularly contribute theme songs to not just TV shows, but movies as well. (One would wonder what, if any, Japanese pop/rock artists Freddie would've listened to at the time in the 1980's. But then again, he did write a song with Montserrat Caballe partly in Japanese as well!) And look who's talking- copy/paste master...Touche. |
