Any one any good at this?
I know it's a bit of a long shot, but someone has been posting pretty hurtful, yet pointless and shallow, messages on a website of mine and I've got their IP but I want to trace it. So far, I know they are in London.
Any one have a good way of tracking further than just a loose geographic location?
P.S. For the record, the IP is 81.178.242.145
Well, hurtful from the point of view that it could be someone I know, but I do doubt it - and shallow from the point of view that it is probably just some prick who stumbled across the site.
I've complained to the IP's host (Pipex, which I've never heard of) so I'll see what happens there.
But any help would be much appreciated.
Serry, a legend you are!
However, thats all I have found too.
I am in contact with the Pipex complaints department currently, they are looking into it. Unfortuantely, the IP is a generic IP and may link to more than one user, which is a slight problem, but they are dealing with it.

In case of abuse the provider can identify the actual user for 30 hours after the abusive incident. They do log IPs for that time period because it's a law. All you have to do is *phone* the provider and email them proof - for example a screen shot. They delete emails with attachments unless you pre-arrange for that.
