I don't know if anyone else has seen it but apparently the US release date for the new DVD is October 18th. link Well then, America got the CD before the UK and now the DVD as well. Kooky eh? |

Yeah it's nice that we're getting things a bit early :) I'm really disappointed that it doesn't seem to be a 2-disc edition though :( |
Maz 08.10.2005 21:25 |
What makes you say that, Jeffrey? I can't see any mention of whether it's 1 or 2 discs. Did I miss something? All of the other Queen DVDs have been 2 discs; I can't imagine this will be any different. |

But they have also left off the "The DVD Collection" banner as well, so perhaps it could still be 2 discs. The CDs add up to over 2 hours, 7 minutes so if they want decent quality video (which has never been the case before) there can't be many features on a single disc... not with their usual audio choices of DTS and PCM. |

Here is the back cover art of the DVD. link The only extra listed is "imagine" from Hyde Park. This dvd release is a joke. |

This is a shame... Why did they paid the Torpedo Twins ??? Did they had an hard drive crash and lost all their Queen Data ?? pfff... I'll buy instead Peter Gabriel last tour DVD with the 83 min documentary in bonus... By the way, here is a working link for the back-cover of ROTC : link |
inu-liger 11.10.2005 17:26 |
OK, so the DVD cover says "Mixed in 5.1 Surround Sound"....interesting. How much you guys wanna bet that it WON'T be in 5.1, but 4.1 instead? |

Looks like I stand corrected and Jeffrey was right all along. Did they at least mention the potential for 2 discs at one time, or am I making that up? |

There MUST be another special edition of maybe a documentary thing of this tour which will be issued as a stand alone DVD. That's what I was trying to say, did you understand ? sorry, I'm still learning :P |
Penis - Vagina 12.10.2005 21:14 |
I was figuring on dual-layer. As I understand it, you can get about an hour of high quality video and PCM sound on one layer. So if we round it off to two hours and allow a little extra video quality for the fact that it's 16:9.. then we've got 2 hours of high quality video and PCM (the back cover says PCM and DTS as usual btw). Now subtract some video quality for the DTS and we've still got potentially good video quality but extras would continue to diminish video quality. But look at Wembley. What the hell happened there? It's roughly 112 minutes long, not really any extras on disc 1. And it's dual-layer. Yet the video bitrate is average 2.5 out of 10. SVCD quality. Granted, they do a good job compressing because it doesn't seem to suffer too much (to me anyway), but that's awfully low. This is a brand new show so they have no excuses for poor quality this time. It has to be great or else... I dunno As for these newest details, I'm very disappointed. DoRo can be seen right here interviewing Michelle: link So where is the tour documentary or at least featurette? Where is the tribute to Michelle? :( This could have been great. An example of what Queen Productions is capable of in the modern age, something to be proud of.. but instead it looks like it's going to be bare-bones. Oh well, perhaps they're saving the extras for the "special edition" which will probably be announced in place of something new, perhaps next year. |
inu-liger 13.10.2005 08:21 |
Perhaps the special edition will be released on Blu-Ray, since Brian DID say the concert was filmed in high-definition. I would look forward to that, since they could use 192/24 encoded DTS-HD for the soundtrack itself. Hopefully they would use the special features then. |

And now a Queenzone exclusive look at the DVD label and part of the back cover of the US version of the ROTC DVD: link So it is for sure a single disc DVD, and it seems they'll be using a DVD case that's almost see-through. ED: That, and I noticed the back cover has a different image from what was posted above! |
Penis - Vagina 13.10.2005 14:26 |
Edit: Oh yeah, that's the same as the CD back cover on the Hollywood version. DVD Empire should have it in stock Friday, usually with the cover images uploaded.. if it is indeed available Oct. 18 here. I'll wait for the Sunday sales ads to see if there's anything bonus with it at Best Buy stores, lol. Probably not.. but you never know. |

From Queenonline.com: "Despite the UK release date of the Queen + Paul Rodgers ROTC DVD being put back to October 31st, the US release through Hollywood Records will remain October 18th." Kudos to Michael, who got it exactly right from the beginning. Bow to him, oh ye naysayers. |

Well those of us who got the Best Buy version of the CD have had DVD quality 'clips' on the bonus disc for weeks now. I did start to watch those on the web but I found that it was ruining the surprise so I stopped. |

It seems that nowadays people guive more importance to the extras than to the concert itself. Man, i'm from the time when there would not be any extras on VHS and it rocked big way. I know that with the HI-Tech nowadays people allways whant more and better but i think things are getting out of control here. To say that Wembley has a poor quality or whathever, it's not fair simply because it's damn good, and with all the High definition nowadays i think that all the improvements in sound, from now on, wont be of great importance because your ear simply don't get that. To put a 2-disc set on this one would be great but it would also be more expensive, and for once, i really think that this was a wise decision to make because some people don't wan't to pay that extra money to see a backstage interview. I think that in the begining they were planing a 2-DVD set, because they were counting on the Summer tour. Since that tour didn't sold out they didn't have enough material to fill the second disc. Take care! |

Take care!Thing is, Queen have established a certain level of quality regarding bonus features on their DVDs now, every one has been a 2 disc set and now they're taking a step backwards. This is a legit reason for criticism. As for it being more expensive as a 2 disc set, all the other 2 disc sets were not expensive, in fact I never paid more than $20 for any of them. They obviously had plenty of footage to use, from bonus footage at other concerts, interviews, rehearsal footage and so on. What is painfully clear is that Queen are planning either a re-release of the "champions" DVD as a 2 disc set or Hyde Park getting a DVD release with the bonus features. Greed is not good. |

In some cases, the Queen DVD's are 100% more expensive than other bands, in other cases they are 50% more expensive. If you compare the prices you pay for the Queen products i bet than you get the same result. The thing is, this as been an expensive year for a Queen fan, and it's not over yet. You have the ROTC and ANATO DVD's coming out. Of course i would love to see the extras but if that means i'm gonna pay less it's alright by me. And they know, as we do, that the real extras we're interested in are the "Real Queen" ones so to speack. If they want to invest time in extras they can do it with the Feeddie's era. Take care |

Greed is not good. Its not painfully clear to me that they're planning on re-releasing the ROTC set as a 2 disc set. I don't think there's one chance in a hundred that they will do that. And if they do release the Hyde Park show with a lot of bonus features, you can't say that they're making you buy the same concert twice just to get the bonus features. Its a different concert. The set is pretty much the same, but the venue and the performance will be completely different. So I don't think its a fair criticism to accuse them of greed. If you're disappointed that ROTC lacks extra features, that's fair. But saying they're greedy because of something you assume is going to happen but may well not happen is jumping the gun. |

F+ck it... First the shitty view from the drums when the curtain falls, then no UP and no concert intro? Okay we could live with that, if we try hard enough, but why just one DVD? What did WE do wrong? They filmed tones of material to put on the bonus DVD but still... No extra's :'( G0DD&MN&T I'm really pissed this time. I'll still buy it... Of course;) And btw: What did Bri say about the multi camera thing? He loved it... And we did. SO why no multi cam thing?!? |
TheGame 16.10.2005 20:13 |
Agree with people here. I'm disappointed that this will only be a 1 disc release. I really hoped this would contain bonus tracks, interviews etc...etc... Why is the big question? (Money, don't think it's that) If the intention is releasing the bonus features on a possible Hyde Park 2005 DVD, then it's ok....else, shame on QP! I will buy the ROTC DVD, cous any release is better then no release! |
inu-liger 16.10.2005 20:59 |
I'm still buying it too, to go along with the CD version that I bought just yesterday (which itself has a misprinted booklet! See my topic in Queen - General Discussion for more details) In fact, I'm getting it off a guy on eBay who already has at least 3 copies already, which haven't come out yet otherwise in the USA! |
Wiley 16.10.2005 22:46 |
You could look at this release as another Live Magic thing. You know, more like a souvenir for the tour, and actually cheaper than most of the things for sale at the gigs, hehe :). I don't know how enjoyable those extras would have been. Think about it, most of the gigs were pretty much the same: "On the guitar, mister Paul Rodgers (and he strums it only about 3 times), "The spirit of Queen lives in you, guys", "I'm wearing a condom right now...", "Mr. Danny Miranda, also from (whatever city they played in)". Don't get me wrong, they could have put many other things but I really don't see them making a Backstage Documentary or anything that shows them as regular people. Snippets from the outdoor gigs? It was the same setlist and I think that not all of those gigs sold out. I would like to think of this as asouvenir from the tour. That's the best I could do, I think, hehe :). Let's hope their following releases are more spectacular. The only think I'm really going to regret is if they cut off the IABD/Lose Yourself intro. I don't think it's going to look so good. We'll see. Wiley |
