Hello,
What do you guys think of the new single from The Darkness (by some Queen fans considered to be Queen copy cats)? I think it's very good! And the citar solo rocks!
You can listen to it here: link
The single will be released on November 14th.
Houdoe,

Not as good as the stuff off their first album in my opinion.
Still quite good. Personnaly I dont think they are copying queen, but dont really care. They are still excellent, and have definetly been infulenced by Queen. If I was Queen id be honored that the darkness have been infulenced by queen.
i disagree. the DANKness are purely derivative, and as such bring nothing new to the table
this make them nothing better than a plastic imitation of early/mid 70s glam rock
the music world would not be missing much if they were no more

Yes, Brenski, you should have said they needed lobotomies. That's much more intelligent.
Song sounds good, but it doesn't grab me like some of the stuff off the last album.
I find the Darkness-slagging a bit strange: perhaps you might not fink they bring "anything new to the table" but it's surely better to rehash Queen, AC/DC or Slade than Coldplay or... sorry, i've lost interest in trying to list (*warning, an opinion approaching*) drab bands. I fink what they have done is bring some tongue-in-cheek to the table which, let's face it, has been missing since November '91.
Even if similarities with past bands abound, at least it's an invigorating take on music, and actually a joy to listen to and watch. Justin Hawkins himself said that Permission To Land is not a concept album: it's simply the greatest rock record of the past 20 years. I'd agree with at least half of that (10 years).

Having said that, I neither like nor dislike them.
there was no abuse in my statement 'DANKness' is the best adjective i can find to describe their music, image and unappealing (to me) style- and i'll thank you to not accuse me of such (abuse). I have referred to this band in this way since day1 - my pet name for them - as it best describes the way they appear to me
check out the meaning caspar, then your apology will be accepted (oops - i forgot, you are too big to apologise)
dank (dangk) adj.,
Disagreeably damp, cool or humid. See synonyms for wet.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
(takes deep breath)
Who told you that crap?
Look don't get me wrong, their first album was pretty cool stuff (the filmclips especially were pretty damned hilarious) but - I can only describe it thus:
Their first album caught my attention, and with the 2nd one I am waiting to be impressed.
There is a problem with the Darkness. They claim to be purely a funny band, not serious at all, yet I'm supposed to take them 'seriously' and rate them above much much better acts? It just doesn't work, if they're not serious then they shouldn't be in a serious business! They've got to make up their minds because fence-sitting just wastes everyone's time.
Now... about their music and who they rip off.
I just heard Justin Hawkins' cover of "This Town Ain't Big Enough For the Both of Us", and really - it's very Queen if you ask me. The problem is he's not actually good enough of a singer to pull off some of the bits in that song and it just sounds silly. If that's what he's after then I suppose thats a good thing.
They're a good band, in that they are successful meshing influences without being overtly plagiaristic. You can see that there is an individuality to this band and that in time they will hopefully be more like themselves and less like others.
BUT - musically, they don't rate anywhere near as highly as those they're paying tribute to. Queen, AC/DC, whoever - they all did it first and they did it better.
