link Bohemian Rahpsody # 163? no Crazy little, UP, AOBTD, WWRY, WATC, YMBF? I don't understand why RS magazine are so Anti-Queen. I mean, what do they consider "GREATEST"? If you go to any NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA game you hear WWRY. You see a reality show (Rockstar:INXS) and they perform BO RAH several times. WATC is a worldwide anthem for sports...Anyways, it was probably discussed before but I needed to let it out before I choke! |

Rolling Stone has always been a garbage magazine. Here's a great post once written by Arlene about them: "Most of their writers are very slanted and what they write or cover (or don't cover) is very biased and based on politics, trends, money, etc. R.S. has had a running war with Queen since the 1970's. It is virtually impossible for them to say anything of merit, or to even be civil to Queen. When R.S. reviewed Queen's live South American show in the 80's,...the infamous one that pissed off Roger so bad he wrote them an angry letter on an airline sickness bag... ...the idiot writer from R.S. based his review..on Queen's SOUNDCHECK. How freakin' unprofessional is that? No band is gonna sound good at a soundcheck. THAT's WHY it's called a souncheck. To hammer out and rehearse any glitches in the performance, the instruments, the soundboard, etc. FYI too. Most of the so called ''GREAT' long term writers for R.S. aren't even trained journalists with college journalism degrees. They all started out as 15, 16 year old kids and groupies in the 1960's hanging out with rockers and the R.S. original ''office'' was a hippy hang out pad in San Fransisco. It's not like other newspapers or magazines where you have to have a degree and experience in journalism. And...if for any reason you are on the SH*t list of Publisher/Founder/Editor In Chief Jann Wanner...R.S. will nail your ass to the wall. If you are on the good side of Jann Wanner...you get continuous glowing coverage even if your music...or film, book, whatever is utter SHITE!!!!" |

To Chamo25, You make a really good point about how strange the "Rolling Stone" list of greatest songs was. I think that the problem with it, if I remember, was that it did not really sample a large number of people. As a result, I think that the results were really not statistically significant. On the other hand, I think that we should all complain when shit like this happens. If enough people wrote in letters complaining, RS would get the message that it is not OK to ignore Queen. Since RS tries to be so politically correct, I wonder why they are not ashamed about downplaying the contributions of a group whose lead singer was a gay man who died of AIDS. I think that if a lot of people wrote letters in complaint the next time something like this happens, they would probably publish one of them (I've had editorial letters published) and they would probably be more careful the next time. |
NOTWMEDDLE 07.10.2005 01:02 |
Rolling Stone are anti-Queen, anti-Pink Floyd and anti-Rush. The only old RS reviewers that liked PF were Anthony DeCurtis, David Fricke and Kurt Loder. Loder gave The Wall and The Final Cut favorable reviews and he also liked David Gilmour's About Face despite hating Roger Waters' Pros and Cons. RS is now Bitchney Sneers and phlEghMINEM and Pisstina Aquafina central! Fuck RS! |
Brandon 07.10.2005 02:58 |
Hello, everyone... Rolling Stone panders like noone else. The list is politically correct. I mean, just like VH1 there are x% of minority songs in the top 100, there are representatives from different genres of music, etc. Obviously, the list is formulaic, uncreative and manufactured with the intentions of highlighting music through the decades. Also, a 500 list of all time is impossible as these are all popular singles in the states only. Personally, I think many album cuts are better than singles. So, read it if you're bored, take it with a grain of salt, and laugh anf mock RS to their face and behind their back. |

i am not going to lie and say ive heard lots of Bob Dylan songs but the ones i have heard ive heared them covered far better by other bands than his versions! Mr Tambourine Man was done better by the Byrds, Knocking on Heavens Door was done better by Guns N Roses and Like a Rolling Stone was done done far better by The Rolling Stones. I do know lots of people who think hes great but just to me hes awful |
brENsKi 08.10.2005 16:57 |
1. - the byrds version of Mr Tambourine Man - is the version that the vast majority of people are aware of. Of course everyone knows Dylan wrote it, but his version blows. At least the Byrds gave it a bit of late 60s feel. 2. Dylan has a voice that sounds like a cat being dragged through a cheese-grater - he maybe albe to write great songs - but he's one of only a handful of artists - who is would say was 'generally' covered better than his originals...manfred Mann, van Morrison, the byrds - they all made his songs come to life |
