I also forgot The Cranberries. Even though he wasn't born in Ireland, I think Conan O'Brien deserves a mention of honor. I remember once watching Conan visiting Ireland on his show, and he said this when he came across one of the locals: "Hi, my name is Conan. I'm looking for a relative of mine, his last name is O'Brien, he has red hair, freckles, and he loves to drink." |

Mine's a rather short list, in that there aren't any names on it. Ireland's rather a pretty colony in places, but we should have shipped the natives off long ago. |

John is right, Arlene, you should write a thread about Scots. I hear they have over 1000 different swear words, that should appeal to you :-) fatty wrote a book about that. |

<font color=#FF399> Linda Of The Valley wrote: hell eh!! a lot of those from brenski's list added to mine :P so bresnki, what is your irish roots? I never understood your patrioticity (lol) towards Ireland!i (unfortunately) was the first-born english person in my family. all prior to me were born in Ireland (Dublin, Wicklow (Ticknock) and Skibbereen so i am still very fiercely proud of where i really come from - oh yeah - whoever said Sinead O'Connor did nothing - some of her music is incredible - and she wasn't afraid to touch on difficult subject in her songs - abuse and suchlike. she's also now a priest i believe. so she's done a bit in her short life. |

<font color=#FF399> Linda Of The Valley wrote: ah, I see. btw, on the subject of Sinead o connor - she's got a few good songs but Im not a great fan of her. yes, she did rip up a picture of the pope...and accused bono of doing so..:PSinead OConnor I had to leave off too. She has an interview in the October Mojo where the interviewer asks about her once calling Bono...a turd..because he kissed the Pope's rosarie or hung them on his mic, something like that. And they talk about how she killed her career when she tore up the photo of the Pope on SNL (which she syas now she sort of regrets). I don't know...I kind of respect her having the balls to speak her mind but she can be so I don't know..over the top. But actually the interview reveals some good things about her too, like where she told was it Sean McGowan of The Pogues to get bent because he asked to borrow some money from her..when SHE was nearlt broke herself and she needed the money to feed her new born baby...well she lent the money to him...snd the nimrod bought heroin with it, so she told him that he had some nerve borrowing money off of her, that she needed to feed her baby...to buy smack. After she told him off, she said now he sees she was right and they are sort of friend again. BTW, I don't like Sean McGowan. He is SO nasty to every musician that has worked with him..he's like Pete Doherty..but with a brutal temper too! |

<font color=#FF399> Linda Of The Valley wrote: hehe nice links arlene. and how, too, could I forget rory gallagher? he rocks!!! --------------- One day an Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walked into a pub together. They each bought a pint of Guinness. Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints, and were stuck in the thick head. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer, and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink, held it out over the beer, and started yelling, "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT YOU BASTARD!!!!" :PI saw that joke, GREAT. All those jokes are. What a great website. I found it by accident. Just has amazing stuff on it. Oh....I had NO idea actor Kenneth Branaugh is Irish! :D link |
