I just bought the new Franz Ferdinand album! I haven't even finished the first song, and I can tell it's great!
Does anyone else like Franz Ferdinand, or has anyone else bought the new album yet?
Ah yes!
I got a promo a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it from the first second!
(I also BOUGHT the album again last Friday)
This one tops their debut on every level - one of the best records of the year so far.
The songs are great, the sound is great, the melodies are great, the band sound as a tight unit.
Not a single track that's 'less good' - one by one they are killerrr :-)
If one likes anything he or she heard by Franz they can buy this one blind!
It's stuck in my player and sure it will remain there for a little while!
I downloaded the single off of Itunes and I'm either going to buy the album tonight off Amazon or try and steal it from a friend. It sounds good so far!
And the Kaiser Chiefs are awesome, too. 8)
have you seen the video for Do You Want To? Right near the end of it I'm sure the lead singer holds half his mic-stand in a Freddie-esque style of strut (not to mention the half mic-stand, altho i just did, all well, not to worry) - anyone else notice this?
I really liked the first album when it came out, but then the band were overplayed and I can't listen to it now. I'm sure in a couple of years it will sound fresh again.
Becuase I'm so fed up of the band I haven't given the new album full appreciation. On first listen it sounds very similar, I do believe they are a band with limited sound and scope. But aren't all bands who are being hailed by the tossers at the NME in this "new Britpop" era? There are very few critically acclaimed bands that I like today.
I think it's awesome that Franz Ferdinand say they were influenced by Queen...

FRANZ FERDINAND CITES QUEEN ON CULTURE SHOW
On "The Culture Show" last night members of Franz Ferdinand talking about their influences in life and music. The lead singer Alex Kapranos chose Queen as the major influence on his music. He particularly specified the ebullient optimism of a song like "Don't Stop Me Now", and the tightness of the rhythm section in many Queen songs which he thinks comes through on his own songs.
He also mentioned that they consciously choose not to just shuffle on to stage and play their songs with their heads down, but to actually burst on and *perform* them, echoing something I remember [Brian] once saying about Queen. It's interesting as I've always thought that of all the new bands around these days (many of whom are excellent), Franz Ferdinand is the one that has the most original and exciting sound, and of course now that I hear who has influenced them, I can see why! Good stuff. It must be great to know that you have influenced a whole generation of young talent.

I've got to show that link to a friend of mine who loves Franz Ferdinand but hates Queen...;)
Franz F - Well Do You Want To is one of the catchiest and best songs of the year. The album is pretty good too, it's a lot harder work than the first one, and I don't think there is another big hit single on the record but it is good. I'll be seeing them for the fourth time at Ally Pally in Nov should be good. Then the DVD release is of a gig I was at, which will be nice.
As for Editors, yes they are bloody awesome! Totally awesome. The Back Room is one of the best albums there is this year, Check out their singles. Bullets and Munich are top top songs. Make sure you get there to see them. I'm seeing them tonight at the London Astoria. They're getting better everytime I see them.
I gave the whole album at least three listens all the way through sometime in the beginning/middle of September. I remember being quite entertained. I especially like "Take Me Out" from the first album, though. Very funky, almost like Zep's "Trampled Underfoot."
