Serry... "The man who can't be seen. Check Herbert Wells' book for more details". (Or "HG" as he was known to his friends!!) However Serry, that is only a literal translation of both the novel and the song. A more metaphorical translation could be that it is someone who is "not heard", or "not listened to", or just plain "not taken seriously", therefore, for all intents and purposes - invisible. On this level, the song COULD be viewed as political, Sexual, Racial, or whatever subversive meaning one would like to attribute. Personally, I always wondered why, whenever I was in a room filled with beautiful women, I was ALWAYS invisible, no matter how much noise I made! |

"A more metaphorical translation could be that it is someone who is "not heard", or "not listened to", or just plain "not taken seriously", therefore, for all intents and purposes - invisible." it's ridiculous that they didn't use The Invisible Man for that 'Hollowman' film with Kevin Bacon - I mean, what other song conveys the see-through nature of Bacon's charater better? |

Danny Bhoy wrote: it's ridiculous that they didn't use The Invisible Man for that 'Hollowman' film with Kevin Bacon - I mean, what other song conveys the see-through nature of Bacon's charater better?I don't think that the lightness and poppy nature of the track - would have fitted well with the heavy/serious subject matter of the movie. So I disagree on that point. However, I think it would have ideally suited the 1992 film "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" starring Chevy Chase, Daryl Hannah and Sam Neill, which (apart from having "Invisible Man" as part of its title) thematically covered the same ground as "Hollowman", but in a much more light-hearted fasion. |

queen have so many songs that could be hits years after their release, i think invisible man is one of those. It would seem to fit as a sountrack for one of those movies. |

The parents of young children should really be screening websites before they allow their children on and they should think VERY seriously before allowing their children on an unfiltered board with unpredictable content. This is a website obviously oriented to adults and to some extent older teens. Most interactive internet content is designed for people aged 13 and over. The original joke would have gone over the head of most children. However, they will now be going up to Mommy and Daddy and asking them what a pedophile is. Nice one. I am speaking here as a teacher education student, by the way. It is the responsibility of adults on the internet not to BE pedophiles, but it is not their responsibility to make sure no child ever hears a joke about one. If parents want their kids to be ignorant and naive and not learn that there are bad people in the world until they get taken advantage of by one, then it's up to them to prevent that information from getting through. God forbid a child learn how harsh the world is the EASY way. I know someone is going to flame me and say I shouldn't be anywhere near children and how dare I advocate parents taking responsibility for what their children do. Because we all know TV and the internet are supposed to teach children civility and morality! Not their parents! |
Serry... 07.10.2005 08:34 |
"pedophile" and "fucking" words came not from me. I am not sure that little children would understand what is connection between MJ and TIM video! |

On the breakthru interview on GVH2, John Deacon said that The Miracle was originally going to be called The Invisible Men; could that be a reference to the band becoming less high profile regarding live and media appearances etc. |

Hmm, can I borrow him for the weekend Jamie? I'm writing a song that I'm having a bugger of a time with, specially the opera bit. Could use some "Galileos" perhaps. You can send him regular post. Just throw in a bottle of Smirnoff for him along the way. In all seriousness, for a bit of fun, let's test "Freddie". When Freddie was 12, at the St. Peter's School in Panchgani, India, there was an older boy of 14 who was fond of Freddie's company. What was the name Freddie used to address this boy? No helping out on this one, people! Let's see how much Jamie's "Freddie" remembers about his life. |

Michael Jackson admits sleeping (non-sexually) with teenage boys, has obviously had a significant amount of plastic surgery, used to wander around with a chimp, and once issued a press release announcing that he would henceforth be known as the "King of Pop"... ...and you think his "issues" are alleged????? |

kagezan1313 02.11.2005 17:20 |
Hmm..."Wiseass" is a North American expression, not really Mr. Mercury's style. He'd have told me "Piss off, you sotting tart" I think. Anyway, if he's over his tantrum soon, you can tell him I'll give him 50 percent standard writer's royalties plus 30% gross worldwide single sales and .5% gross worldwide album sales. I'll even throw in a white silk sheet from Neiman Marcus for him to ponce about in, and a case of whatever libation he fancies these days. And the humidifier he'd need to drink it. Of course the whole deal's off if he can't answer my question from earlier. I need to know I'm getting the real Freddie. My luck, I'd receive Tiny Tim in the mail and he'd start wailing "Tip-toe Through the Tulips" for all eternity. I'd have to exorcise the poof. |

I would, but he said your house smelled of cabbage, and that (and this is him, not me, the nasty bugger) your interior designer should be boiled in oil as penance for "bringing the madness in the dark shrieking cave of their sick mind into reality". I really am appalled, as I thought 14 years as a bodiless entity would have mellowed him out a bit. Seems not. Even so, I've taken away his vodka tonics until he apologizes. |
kagezan1313 04.11.2005 16:04 |
Freddie apologizes profusely. He says he really meant none of it, it's him, not you, etc. I must go now, he's rattling the liquor cabinet quite badly. |

Okay, all you people! I SERIOUSLY doubt that the person who began this here thread meant for everyone to start having discussions about Freddie's ghost... (as the Invisible Man!) However, since it does fit in with the title of that song... My personal view is that The Invisible Man was written (by Brian May), with Freddie adding to Brian's song each name of the members of Queen (to include himself as the first), since he knew he would die FIRST before any of the others. By mentioning each member's name thereafter, it was "something left behind" for each of them... like Freddie's own tribute to them or something. That's just the feeling I get when I contemplate the meaning of the song. As for the ghostie named Freddie Mercury, he visits so many people, it could be said that the amount of people claiming to hear from him in the spirit world are two-a-penny. I wonder if you people are truly serious about this, or merely having yourselves a JOKE at Freddie's expense. If he were here now, I think he'd say, "Blow it out yer bloody arses!" (with all respect to the younger kiddies who should read this, sorry!) Sharp-tongued Freddie Mercury, or don't you all agree? (but NOT around the kiddies!) As before stated, the number of people claiming to actually have Freddie Mercury's spirit in their lives is staggering, really. If you could see them all, it would really blow your mind. If any of you are SERIOUSLY being visited by Freddie's spirit, I invite you to join my forum to talk about it more there, and from there, you may read my own personal account of The Invisible Man... link (the website) link (the forum, with a board there especially for QUEEN-related topics) As to the quote: Freddie MErcury John Deacon! Brian May Brian May! RRRRRoger Taylorrr! but who is the "professor"? this is the question ..." Just as a COINCIDENCE, my other book deals with a "professor"... but, well, any conclusions reached with respect to how my professor relates to Queen in general, are the product of the reader's own interpretation. It remains a coincidence until proven otherwise. Regards, Phoenix... |
