Hi!
I have a problem. Our computer broke of a few weeks ago and all the files were distroyed. The problem is that I´m not sure if I can update my iPod anymore whitout losing all the songs on it, and just getting the new ones that I´ve putten on iTunes. So my question is, can you move music from our iPod to your computer, whitout any files getting "lost"?
Go to link and search for PodUtil, very easy program allowing you to remove songs from your iPod to your P.C.
If it is not there, try link, thats pretty good for iPod software.
I've tried to do what you've done before, and without any other software, it can't be done. I thought maybe I could take my iPod songs and put it on my PC when I redid my operating system but unfortunetly I couldn't put my songs back onto my PC. If the software doesn't work or something weird like that, you'll have to put all the cds onto iTunes again. Best luck!
You can actually take your songs from your iPod without software. I was going to say, but it took a bit of explaining and I wasn't sure if it would come across as understandable. But...
Connect your iPod to your P.C. and in My Computer, you will notice a new temporary drive has appeared (for example, on my P.C, I have "E: Sam's iPod" as well as the usual C: and D: drives etc).
Double click and open this. Before you do anything else, go to the Tools menu at the top of the screen, and select Folder Options and then the View tab at the top of window. Under the Files and Folders/Hidden Folders and folders options you will need to select "Show hidden files and folders".
Now, apply these settings, and go back to your iPods folders. There should be an iPod folder, and within here a Music folder (I think) and in here will be a lot of other folders, and each containing the songs stored on your iPod in whatever format you saved them.
NB: I cannot specifically remember the exact names of the folders within the iPod folder, but should these be wrong or you cannot find them for yourself, let me know and I'll plug mine in and have a look for you.
Hope this helps.
Also, my advice is to turn OFF Autosynch as it is a waste of time and isn't at all handy in situation like these.
I have my iPod on manual, and it prevents Apple's wonderful software from auto removing and adding from my iPod in co-ordination with my iTunes library.
Especially when, for example, I take my iPod round a friends house, plug into their machine, and it assumes I want my iPod wiped or want all the song replaced in co-ordination with my friends library.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups...
