Hi! (My first topic, by the way.) Underrated: JAZZ I always wondered why a lot of fans consider JAZZ one of the worst queen albums. Okay, it's a matter of style and taste, of course, but objectively there are lots of really good or at least intelligent songs. Some bad songs, too, that's right, but you can find such on every Queen album. It's not my absolute favourite album but one of the best. Maybe you should listen to these songs one more time: Don't stop me now (no discussion, we all agree it's one of Queen's finest moments) Fat bottomed Girls/Bicycle Race (esp. in combination lots of fun and never boring) In Only Seven Days (reminds me of ANATO) Mustapha (crazy at first "sight" but unique and extremely powerful) --- WE WILL ROCK YOU: This song is extremely simple but it has so much power. Can you sit still while listening? IMO a masterpiece, nothing similar heard before. --- THE FAIRY FELLERS MASTER STROKE It's THE early masterpiece. Lyrics and music perfectly matched, the tempo changes are clever, it arranged and mixed in a very detailed and beautiful way. Maybe it's the kind of senseless lyrics that kept it from being a hit. --- SAIL AWAY SWEET SISTER Wonderful combination of Brian's and Freddie's vocals, very melancholic but also dramatic with the climax at the end (where Freddie sings). ..................................... Overrated: THE MIRACLE Relatively mainstream, complex, not very surprising rock songs. Not too much of the typical 70's orchestral sound left, not as unique as they were back then. Even a few really boring songs on the album. --- 80's HARD ROCK SONGS I Want It All, Tear It Up, Put Out The Fire, Hammer To Fall, Was It All Worth It, Headlong, One Vision, Breakthru and likes. Too straight/simple for being something special. Easy to remember and to singalong, Freddie's vocals sometimes sound strained/forced (don't know the proper word), too heavy instrumentation in some parts. Not one song is bad, but could have sounded better in 70's Queen style. Please compare: One Vision - Tie Your Mother Down I Want It All - White Man Tear It Up - We Will Rock You Breakthru - Flick Of The Wrist Was It All Worth It - It's Late What do you think is over/underrated? Bye, Nummer2 |

Underrated - Roger's solo albums (especially Fun In Space and Happiness), Jazz (and More Of That Jazz as a song), Queen as a band that didn't just make catchy singles, Hot Space, the Barcelona album to name a few things, Jesus and Son & Daughter Overrated - The Miracle as an album, In Only Seven Days (I'm sorry, but I don't get the fuss?!), I'll come back with some more of these after I've had time to think (I think, as an overall band, rather than just a singles act, Queen are a very underrated band in general anyway). |

How could a song like BoRhap be underrated? Or Fun It overrated?? I think a lot of queen albums deserve a closer look. Then you will discover some "long forgotten" songs that never had been popular (maybe because they've never been a single) which are really nice. Same with albums. |

Overrated: 90's Queen. I understand there were some good hits, like "Innuendo", "The Show Must Go On", and "Heaven For Everyone", but even you will admit Queen started to lose their fire in teh late 80's, with Freddie's AIDS and the band's lack of success in the US at that time. Underrated: There's two things here: One - Hot Space. Yes, it is one of their lackluster efforts, but for God's sake, think of it this way: It was an experimental album, something that they wanted to try on for a bit. IMO it is great, I am a huge fan of 80's music, and this is as 80's as it gets, so I like it. Two - The Works. "Radio Ga Ga", "I Want To Break Free", "Hammer To Fall", "Tear It Up", it's all good to me. Some people like a few songs, but despise the rest of the album. How can you, though? Usually when I hear a song or two from an album, I will buy the album and listen to all the tracks. And most of the time, I will like a lot of them. As is the case with The Works. My faves are "Tear It Up", "Machines", and "Keep Passing The Open Windows". Especially the drum opening in KPTOW. Again, it's very "80's". There you have it. |

pal,he is ex-lead vocal of Steelheart..if you want to hear him singin' really high.. i can reccomend you this song to listen "She's Gone - Steelheart" if you can't find let me know and i'll send it to you.. he has a real soprano high range..can hit A6 with falsetto (and freddie did hit D6 in a concert with falsetto)..not bad with low notes too..but not very very good..i think his range is about 4 octaves A2 to A6.. meanwhile may be adam lopez's or maria carey's range is higher than him but i don't count their range as "well used" personally..mike's tessittura is better than them.. |

Underrated for is Queen II... and I am not realy fund of Flash Gordon (maybe because there isn't much lyric in it) What I do like is Freddies version of Polar bear which challanges the high notes more than in Tims version and I do quite like this high notes... what I do like at Freddie is the fact that he is a selfmade man who learnt (thought) himself vocals by crossing the limits... I heard some classic college (professional) ever telling that he could have easly been a valuble tenor....!!! |

Um, the two things are related, they lost success in part due to Hot Space. If you want to say they lost "some fire" it might've been from Hot Space until A Kind of Magic, but for the Miracle and Innuendo they were definitely rejuvinated and had a creative shot in the arm. |

the works and magic are two good albums, not vintage queen by any means, but still great music. the miracle for me is on that same level good but not vintage, then innuendo somehow they pulled out a vintage queen album. |

And not a single soul can say anything about the "MARCH OF THE BLACK QUEEN"???? I mean, c'mon, that song is better than BH itself... And Queen II it's their best album, i would say by far (but a lot of people will disagree, of course). The B side is just awesome. And WHITE QUEEN... uf. "Shivers down my spine" when I hear that song. DEFINITLY UNDERRATED, and the finest moment of their music. Something just too diferent, original, gracefull, delicate, and i could go over and over if I knew more words (wich I don't). HOT SPACE has also been underrated. And it's THE demostration of Queen's versatility. Cool Cat rules!! OVERRATED: The Miracle, The Game. |

Overrated albums; The Game- No hard rock, bad experiments with new wave (Rock It and Don't try Suicide), A Day At The Races- it's good but Sheer Heart Attack and Innuendo are better. There's not enough bite on ADATR (excepting Tie your mother Down) Songs; We Will Rock You- it is good but I think people should extend their horizons, All God's People (like BH or STL without the melodic tune), Under pressure (the live version is much better). Underrated albums- Jazz- great album with fantastic rockers like FBG and Dead On Time. Jealousy and Dreamer's Ball are lovely ballads and we all know about bicycle race and Don't Stop me Now. The miracle is also given a hard time despite being better than anything Queen had done in the eighties. Songs- Breakthru- it's more than an eighties pop tune, Ogre Battle- a great heavier one form Queen II, Play The Game, a stunning power ballad and You Take my breath Away- Love Of My Life takes all the glory when i think this is just as great. |
