Another success I think. Can't tell you much about what Greg played because I forgot he was on and got drunk caught last 20 mins. A nice touch was that EVERYONE got The Platinum Collection box-set for free. Cynics may sneer but they didn't have to do that. Saturday's band from Argentina were amazing, Jeff Scott Soto was excellent. |

I read that someone was selling Houston on DVD for 10 pounds at the convention. |
Banquo 26.09.2005 14:06 |
Yes and Hyde Park 76, Hammersmith 75. |
PieterMC 26.09.2005 14:32 |
Wish I had been there. I would have parted with 10 for Houston. |

Some further thoughts - Houston is out. the genie will not go back in the bottle, so it's ebay until someone shares it. - ANATO DVD is EXACTLY as described previously. And while the Seaside Rendezvous "video" is unmitigated shite, I suppose we don't have to watch it. There is a "commentary" track too (cobbled together from various interviews), which I don't think was mentioned before, and the menu looks superb. Simon Lupton said that where possible they'd used footage of the band performing the song & synchronized it with the studio audio, and we saw DOTL as proof (from Earl's Court, some 79 concert, and another concert, can't quite remember). Unfortunately the ghost of Rare Live resurfaces as while it's sync'ed much better than Rare Live was, I'd still prefer to see ONE performance, not three for the sake of it. And rather bizarrely, they haven't really used all the footage they could - Prophet's Song has very little "straight" performance footage despite the existence of Hyde Park - it's all either stills or heavily FX-ed footage of Fred doing the middle bit. And although you see Brian performing the toy koto and an acoustic, the camera angle is such that it was questioned whether it was actually Brian (it is). Allegedly the whole album's surround mix has been tweaked, in addition to the wholly new mix of GSTQ (the stereo version of which was apparently used on the last tour) Booklet will feature all original artwork and some new. - Box Set currently due 2009. EMI have requested a Freddie "product" & two Queen "products" in the meantime. I will muse on the nature of the contract with EMI elsewhere. - VH-1 are producing a "Classic Albums" making of for ANATO, to be aired around Christmas. QPL are apparently keen to do a 70s DVD. EMI asked for a commemorative edition of ANATO (in the same way that they did a vinyl version for the EMI100 series). Personally I'm surprised that these three threads couldn't be tied together to give a DVD-A, Live DVD & making of package. - ALternate vocal take of Hard Life sounds interesting, most other "Greg" tracks were instrumentals. Greg also had to suffer being asked every question twice (often consecutively) - how stupid are these people? - We need to think of lots of questions for Ken Testi - that man has diaries and a decent memory. - People will pay silly money for all sorts of shite - the flight case for Brian's pedalboard (which is unlikely to have ever set eyes on, much less touched) was sold for £200. A genuine Brian May curly guitar lead for £25 however is less than you'd pay over the counter for top quality leads, so I'm happy with that (although 30 feet is a little more than I need!) - Finally for the moment, netball is a wondrous sport. What happens at the convention....stays at the convention. |

Any hints on what the ''Freddie Product'' might entail? And I assume the 1 Freddie, 2 Queen things are due between now and 2009, most likely one a year perhaps (2006,2007,2008)? |
Banquo 26.09.2005 15:42 |
I thought the Seaside video was rather cute! |
Crazy LittleThing 26.09.2005 16:46 |
Nice comments, PG. Will be happy to trade my short curly lead for your 30-foot one . . . just trying to help;) So it's netball you're into . . . |
Ian R 26.09.2005 19:30 |
Netball and probably a couple of Netballers, by the sounds of it... |
kdj2hot 26.09.2005 20:02 |
I just checked on ebay and no houston :( but I'll keep checking because if they were whoring it out at the convention it's only a matter of time before they put it on ebay or someone who bought it figures out how much money they can be making and copies it and sell it on ebay theirself. Man, wish I could've bought it cause since no one else is selling it you could probably sell it for 25-50 dollars a piece on ebay until it becomes common, then the price'll settle around 5 bucks or under. The first auction (if it's only one item and one listinng) could even go in to the hundreds, maybe low thousands as where as it is. If I owned a copy and didnt even own a dvd-r I'd gamble and see how much I could get. |

Thanks for the Convention report P_G - very interesting. Did they talk about the ROTC DVD? Somebody over on QOL said that "Imagine" from Hyde Park will be the only extra?! |
JWS3 27.09.2005 08:05 |
The quality of the Houston DVD is shite. I bought one and watched it last night, it's terrible, colour is no good and there's lines all over the place. I also got a BM lead I think it's one he used on the Crazy Tour '79 (I hope so anyway) The convention was a great weekend as always, I see there's 2 copies of the box set we got on ebay already.... I'm also now very interested in netball.... |

Indeed Netball is a wonderfull sport Very interesting (well most of them) To the person who asked about Imagine from Hyde Park on the DVD - Yes it will be a bonus track we was told They played about 1 hour of the ROTC DVD and it does look very good (if you think Q & PR is good) anyway great weekend (what I can remember) Great cover band from Argentina - the singer was so much like Freddie it freaked me out a little |

There are many versions of Houston around and the on e being sold this weekend, should be the bad quality, edited version...?! |

Netball eh? I could get in to that. |

And I'm the lucky sod who won the trip to New York. I bought a Houston DVD, but it wouldn't play properly on my DVD player. I think my player is old technology compared to the CD. I thought the guitar leads were a bargain, but as I haven't got a guitar, I didn't see any point in buying one. |
Banquo 29.09.2005 12:19 |
I bought the Hyde Park DVD I think its something to do with the wrong region or PAL/NTSC or summat. Didn't Keith drag that New York competition on and on and on and on. Jesus you must have been flagging. |

I will do. Sorry for not getting in touch after the Queen show in Manchester, I lost your details, and then other stuff happened and I forgot to frequent Queenzone, DUH! I'll mail you over the weekend. |
Simoriah 30.09.2005 11:18 |
And it was Earl's Court I bought on DVD, not Houston. Obviously having a dumb couple of days. |

Banquo, is there ever any decent skirt there for the likes of Sir Archie and myself? We've often considered putting in an appearance, but if I had to go an entire weekend without any action, I fear I would go insane. 4 or 5-pinters considered. |
Flashman 06.10.2005 05:00 |
... and Lisser, we don't have a netball court as yet here at the Towers. But the next time you're in these parts, I'm sure I could manage some sort of erection. ;-D |

If ever there was a convention for Flashman.. |
Flashman 07.10.2005 04:53 |
Do you mean I'd have been like a pig in shit at Prestatyn, or that we should hold a convention in my esteemed honour? A couple of hundred dandies with fine whiskers, strutting around damning eyes, three sheets to the wind and grabbing a hold of any likely trollop within reach? I don't know whether to be flattered or mortified. It's Friday, I'll take flattered. |
Penetration_Guru 07.10.2005 05:29 |
The odds were about 4 to 1 (women to men), they were all sporty types, hammered out of their skulls and some were in "hen night" fancy dress. Sound like your sort of thing? |
Flashman 07.10.2005 05:41 |
Capital! What details do we have for next year's shindig? Hang on just a cotton-picking minute, though. Must you stop in a 'chalet' of all places? Other people's piss, vomit and Lord knows what all over your manky bedding? Is it possible to hire a room in a more agreeable part of the area (difficult I know, this is Wales we're talking about), and pop into the 'camp' when the ladies are sufficiently oiled and easier prey? |
Erin 07.10.2005 10:38 |
Netball..basketball variation? Hmm...that would have been interesting. All white people playing..;-) Do they still have the putt putt? I mean "crazy golf." I come from near the mini golf capital of the world. I could kick some ass.. |
Flashman 07.10.2005 11:04 |
I would love to play a round with you some time, Erin. ...and other golf-based innuendo ad infinitum. Sink a long one, lay up together, nail a birdie, deep screw in a bunker, etc., etc. |
Penetration_Guru 07.10.2005 17:13 |
There's a reasonable hotel down the roa, just next to the beach (which is good for openair shagging, er, apparently) |
Flashman 10.10.2005 04:52 |
Hmmm, I'll be washing sand out of me crack for months afterwards. Mind you - September on a British beach? It'd go blue. Not to mention having to avoid all that broken glass and dog shit. I really should work for the British Tourist Board. |
