Alonso is a very good driver, but surely both Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen are better than him.
Raikkonen has to thanks McLaren-Mercedes and JP Montoya for not letting him win.

I WAS THE HAPPIEST GIRL YESTERDAY.... ALONSO IS MY FAVOURITE PILOT... FROM WHEN HE MADE IS DEBUTE IN THE F3000 (FRANCORCHAMPS-BELGIUM) AND NOT ONLY THAT MY COMPATRIOT TOM BONEN IS WORLD CHAMPION OF CYCLISME...
Raikkonen had a lot of bad luck... But Alonso was the most constant driver so he didn't steal the championship. A big surprise, but a nice one I think.
The WC Cycling was a very close race. The Dutchies Boogerd and Moerenhout were very close to a medal, but the 2nd group caught them a few metres before the finish. :( Boonen was the strongest in the sprint.
Somebody watched the A1 GP? Yesterday was the start of this new racing discipline, where every country has his own team and all the cars are made of the same material. Brazil won with Nelson Piquet jr. as driver.
Renault and Alonso deserve the championship, they were fast enough (not the fastest) when necessary and most importantly reliable.
The modern engine rules and the point system really do kill off the racing. Why risk your engine when you need to use it in the next race if the victory is only 2 points more... And that brings us to races where the top three cruise in conservation mode.
McLaren (that's one Mclaren, not two) would have without a doubt wiped the table without constant reliability problems.
Alonso better make the most of his WDC, because as far as I'm concerned he surely won't win the next one. Especially if Ferrari brings a complete package for M.S to drive, McLaren finds a balance between astonishing speed and reliability and Toyota enters the big leagues. Although there's two more races to go in this season, the next one will certainly be a whole new ballgame.
but come on for the last 5 years its all been
scumacher
acumacher
scumacher
scumacher
scumacher
and he won race after race after race.
compare it to now
the teams who can claim to have a chance of winning the title.
maclaren
ferrari
williams (although they have had a bad season)
renault
BAR ( give em time)
a 5 horse race rather than a one horse is much more interesting in my opinion
Alonso won at last!
I'm delighted with the news about the new champion.
eh...the youngest one since Emerson Fittipaldi!?
I think it's hopeful for F1 that such a young driver has grown quickly to be a champion. He'll surely make F1 exciting for the next season as well...I'm looking forward to Suzuka race, though I'm not going there so I'm going to see it on TV...( I remember I've seen Schumacher at Suzuka circuit before.)
Right now Alonso sung We Are The Champions (a couple lines actually) on team radio of Renault F1 team after his victory on last Grand Prix of the current season. Pretty funny!
Last year was intolerable. That Schumacher bastard won pretty much all the races (that I saw anyway)... it was getting awfully boring. The one good thing about it was hearing the German anthem.
Good to see a year where you *couldn't* pick the winner.
