Freddie is being and always will be my favorite band member, but right after Freddie, John is my choice and I'm sure many Queen fans choose John as a favorite band member or at least they all like him. The guy doesn't talk, doesn't sing, doesn't like publicity, doesn't interact with fans, but still he is very popular among Queen fans. There are even websites dedicated only to John (I think there's one in Japan). I admire his humbleness (spell it right?) his style to play the bass (Liar, a great solo) and most important for having wrote classic Queen songs such as 'You're my Best Friend', 'I want to Break Free', AOBTD, Spread your Wings, etc. I have a friend who told me that John's personality and popularity is similar to Charlie Watts from RS. Brian's name is probably more well-known in the music business, but John's a favorite among Queen fans...this is my point of view, what do you guys think? |

Agree. I respect him very much. Japanese site is link |

I agree. Some of my favourite Queen songs were written by him.I think Freddies voice and his song writing compliments each other. Alot of posts lately have made fun of John and his quiteness and the fact that he does not speak well. When I watch any interviews with him I think he speaks very well and is very interesting.Just because he is not as outspoken as Brian or Roger does not mean he is not as valuable. He was and as far as I know still is a big part of the business side of Queen. |

and when Freddie and John collaborated on songwriting we got arguably - Queen's two worst co-written songs Pain Is So Close to Pleasure and Friends Will Be Friends also from the same album John himself worte queen's worst ballad - One Year of Love |

When the dust settles, though, it is clear (to me) that Freddie is MILES ABOVE the others in terms of songwriting. As for John's songs, some can be fun, some can be endearing, but they're still pretty bad ;D |

First of all Freddie was the BEST songwriter out of the 4 and this speaks for its self. That being said, I think that John's songs are a helluva lot better in lyrical content and overall arrangement then anything Roger ever wrote. Now I won't go as far to say that John's songwriting was better than Brian's but I would put them neck and neck. John's song "Another One Bites The Dust" is still to this day Queen's best selling single and best #1 hit here in the states. Besides "Radio Ga Ga" and "I'm In Love With My Car" anything else Roger came up with was just used as an album filler so don't ever bash John cuz you might not agree with him as the best song writer of the group but he is definetley not the worse..............Good Day |

John is known to frequent Bookseller Crow on the Hill on Westow Street or The Rock Bookstores at Tower Bridge Rd. somewhere on the floor behind the shelves. Middle of the week is best. Spotted his balding white head a while back, we just smiled at one another and when I went back to the same spot, Poof Gone! I think he's very skiddish. especially if he may think you've recognized him. LOL! Cheers, David |

Love John. Some people only post negative things ALL THE TIME on this site!!! It's getting tiring. I'm learning whose responses to skip. Been listening alot to Queen II lately. The bass playing is amazing (as well as everything else of course). |

John is my favourite by far. He seems the least bit cocky of his fame and fourtune. It would be interesting to meet him. I too also respect his decision to retire. You can't go on forever and it has been said he was the most family orientated queen member, so if he retired to spend more time with his (large) family I can totally see why he did that. He rocks and I find it quite sad a lot of people don't know who he is. He deserves more credit than he gets. John Deacon ROCKS! P.S - I love the bass solo on 'Dragon Attack' and yes I do know Brian wrote it, I'm just saying the bass solo was great:) |

Freddie was definitely the best songwriter, Brian a close second. John and Roger just sort of filled in the gaps imho...their songs were more simple, radio-friendly things, but topped off everything else nicely. |
Serry... 25.09.2005 04:34 |
This topic started not about songwritting nor who's the best knowing person from the band to non-Queen fans.... For the fans who started to listen Queen's music in 90s - John perhaps is not so important as to whom who have listen Queen in 70s and 80s. New fans just have not many chances to see/hear John in recent years. Some of them can hardly understand that John was important as well as Rog or Bri for the band. Anyway as I wrote before I respect John for his accepting the thought that Queen is not being anymore. |

John is a God - when I was in my second year at uni, my mate and I had a shrine to him. It was great! I'd love to track the guy down and shake his hand for being so damned cool. He also had the world's most awesome afro in 84. He's definitely my favourite member of queen, closely followed by Freddie with Grumpy and Chunky lagging way way way way back. |
