I was just listening to "return of the champions" i have to say this new version is probably the best version of this song i heard. I thought the 1998 version i heard was great, but this version just floored me, brian and paul with a tremendous duet in my opinion. would this version make a great single? i think so, but, when the song turns fast paul loses some of his edge, or else it would be a no brainer hit.
I like it a lot. In fact, the more I listen to the CD, the more I am digging Paul and his singing style.
With the exceptions of I Want To Break Free and I Want It All, his voice fits the songs well....
I just do not care for the I Want It All live...it sounds off for some reason. Has the entire tour.
The definitive version is the Headbangers mix with extended drum intro and orgasmic guitar, simply mind blowing, Queen at their most metalic majestic best
play with traffic? wanker? don't call me a wanker, it hurts my feelings. You know, mike hunt has feelings to, after those harsh words i just might drink a case of beer and wollow in my misery. boy am i hurt, some loser (ALEX) called me a wanker. wow i'll never get over this. Your now officially part of the queenzone loser club, lester, fenderick, sir, and now ALEX. Yes, the four dopey losers.
Boys, get a room ;)
I first learned of a slow version of Hammer to Fall last year when I was sharing karaoke tracks here (before it was against the rules) and some kind bloke posted a slow instrumental version, which was either from a Brianmay.com download, or perhaps not.. there was some debate over that as I recall.
Anyway, I couldn't believe how beautiful the song was when slowed down and I was informed that Brian had performed it this way in some of his solo shows.
But ROTC was my first time hearing it with vocal and everything. When it started I got goosebumps, thinking "YES! It's the slow version!" and I loved it... and then they go into the standard speed version and I loved it even more. It's definitely one of my top favourites from the show.
I never heard it before and when i saw the slow then to fast all the light started going crazy i thought oh wow that was brillant
i go for the new version slow song then the whole stage is ROCKING AWAY lol

Hahahaha, yes! What a club it is indeed. Welcome aboard, Alex! Your membership package will soon arrive in the mail.
The '98 version of Hammer To Fall rocked! I actually prefer this version to the '05 version. I like how it remained slow for the third verse and chorus, and then it finally hits the rock part after that. Very effective!

How dare you leave me out of this loser club!! Please add my name asap.
agree with Bite The Dust....the best version of Hammer to Fall is the Headbangers mix from 84....still getting used to this new one....but I agree probably better than 98
The 2005 version of Hammer To Fall is by far the best live version I've ever heard. It beats the Queen version and it's far better than the 1998 version.
Theoretically the best version would be with Brian on 1st verse, Paul on 2nd verse and Roger for the finale. Which is a mix of the various 2005 versions :-)

Alright, I suppose you can join, since we really shouldn't have sexist membership policies! ;)

I think there is a limit of hormonal activity allowed in our club, so I'll have to kindly deny your request for membership. You 24/7ers should form your own club. I'm sure Mex and Wstussyb would be obliged.

Hmm, how is Lester not a decent human being? Is it his wit that has thrown you off the track?
