First of all, I do sincerely apologise for the crudeness but I am in the middle of having an argument in work and need proof to my argument! I have somebody persisting that 'Fat Bottomed Girls' is about wanking! All I would like to know, is this true? Now I believe the song to be about a young man who learns to appreciate women of larger size (in laymans terms). So, is there or has there been any association or stories with 'Fat Bottomed Girls' and wanking? |
willem-jan 8923 16.09.2005 06:57 |
Nope. It's about aids. Maybe reading the lyrics might give you a clue what the song is about. |
brENsKi 16.09.2005 06:59 |
I would've thought that: out of ALL of queen's somgs this one is the most transparent...but here you go anyhow:- Queen guitarist Brian May wrote this. It's about a young man who comes to appreciate women of girth. link |
Localboy80 16.09.2005 07:08 |
I know what the song is about and I know the lyrics without even reading them, this is just to obtain evidence to my argument. |

Hi Brenski! I did appreciate your reply and when I said that I did know what the song was about and that I knew the lyrics without reading them, it was aimed towards what willem-jan had mentioned. I am sorry if you thought I was being unappreciative towards you but trust me, that was not my intention. Many thanks for your reply! |
goliath 16.09.2005 10:07 |
the song is about all of the groupies who used to hang out back stage of the concerts and such. Really not sure where you people get your info from but not one bit of the song has to do with AIDS. |

Yup Goliath I read that Brian wrote that song regarding Queen's first tour with Mott the Hoople and all the "gals" that hung around back stage. Groupies! |
guest 16.09.2005 12:12 |
It is indeed about groupies |
brENsKi 16.09.2005 12:24 |
errrmmm really? how many groupies are fat-bottomed? most of em are waif-like or at least have good figures...after all, they are trying to cop-off with a band....what cahnace have you got as a fat-arsed groupie against the smaller ones? why can't some people (no offence) accept Brian's quote (above) he actually said that it was about Queen guitarist Brian May wrote this. It's about a young man who comes to appreciate women of girth. link and the line 'left alone with big fat Fanny - she was such a naughty nanny' is not about a groupie.... |
brENsKi 16.09.2005 12:30 |
ther's nothing in here that reflects any 'inspiration' from groupies - the inspiration is ALL about fat-arsed women ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Are you gonna take me home tonight, Are down beside that red firelight Are you gonna let it all hang out Fat bottomed girls You make the rockin' world go round Hey I was just a skinny lad Never knew no good from bad But I knew life before I left my nursery Left alone with big fat Fanny She was such a naughty nanny Heap big woman you made a bad boy out of me Hey hey! I've been singing with my band Across the wire across the land I seen ev'ry blue eyed floozy on the way, hey But their beauty and their style Went kind of smooth after a while Take me to them dirty ladies every time Oh won't you take me home tonight? Oh down beside your red firelight Oh and you give it all you got Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round Hey listen here Now I got mortgages and homes I got stiffness in the bones Ain't no beauty queens in this locality (I tell ya) Oh but I still get my pleasure Still got my greatest treasure Heap big woman you gone and made a big man out of me Now get this Are you gonna take me home tonight (please) Oh down beside that red firelight Are you gonna let it all hang out Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round GET ON YOUR BIKES AND RIDE! Oooh yeah oh yeah them fat bottomed girls Fat bottomed girls Yeah yeah yeah all right ride 'em cowboys Fat bottomed girls Yes yes ohh gets me everytime ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ someone please show me how this song is either a. about groupies, or b. inspired by groupies because the second verse (if anything) kinda disses groupies and goodlooking girls !!! end of arguement |
rockyracoon 16.09.2005 12:43 |
Thank you Brenski, it was helpful to review the lyrics. I agree with you. The song is NOT about AIDS, is NOT about wanking, and most likely NOT about groupies. It's merely a song about enjoying ladies with fat fannies. Something interesting to note here is that in Australia "fanny" is slang for a vagina. Hmmmmmmmm. :) |

AND also he did some very recent interview I read or heard, can't remember where, (I will look in some of the recnt stuff he has done)where he NOW, also distinctly says it is ALSO about the women/groupies behind the scenes who made life on the road so cool, and is a bit of homage to them. I know the lyrics in no way state that and I know Brian didn't say that in early Queen interviews...this was some recent interview where he did in fact say that. |

Originally, when Brian wrote the song...he NEVER said it was about groupies, it was only a paean to Rubenesque women. 20 some years LATER...in interviews, Brian started saying in interviews that it was a paean to women of the road/groupies. Now...he should have phrased it differently and said in the interviw something to the effect of that .... ...while he (Brian) originally wrote it with ONE meaning, about Rubenesque women, .... ...through the years, it has come to take on a new meaning via our Queen's experiences on the road and the pleasure and good times women of the road/women have given to us. Brian should have phrased it something like that. But to people reading the newer or more recent interviews, the way Brian worded it, he comes right out and says it's distinctly about groupies/ladies of the road.....revising history and the Original meaning and intent of the song.... ...WHEN he actually WROTE IT....not 20 some years later, unless he had specified more clearly...well NOW, it has taken on extra meaning, yada yada. |

Actually, this was a response to the question "...what inspired you to write "Fat Bottomed Girls?". Moreover, every statement surrounding this sentence makes it very that he is referencing what the song was written about. Now, I have stuck to the topic. It isn't necessary to be rude simply because someone disagrees with you. also how is: 'left alone with big fat Fanny, she was such a naughty nanny' about groupies? d'oh!!! |

P.S. That 1998 Guitar World Interview IS where I saw it. It is CURRENTLY republished in the Queen-Guitar Legends issue of Guitar World Magazine. I also recall him saying it in one of the radio or pre-Europe Queen+Paul Rodgers concerts, live interviews. ....Kind of have to understand...that when artists themselves, say different things in interviews, people who read it or hear it...get CONFUSED..because if they hear or read the artist saying it....what is a person supposed to believe, unless they have heard or seen every freaking interview since the artists' career began...and even THEN..it's confusing because artists DO sometimes change, revise, their ''stories behind the song'', how the band members met, who wrote what and when, yada, history/biography of an artists or band, different recollections...changing through the years. All cause for confusion. |

I was just to post something about this. I guess I was the BIGGEST FOOL to JUST discovered that FBG was also cut out from the Queen On Fire CD released in China, along with GDML!!! link Second blow! Instantly I spotted the missing of GDML when I bought it, but never expecting the exclusion of FBG! Well, GDML may have sort of "obvious" reasons to be banned here, but why FBG? Just because it's about Rubenesque women or groupies, "a dirty little number" whatever, it's got BANNED??? It's unbearable to spend lots of money on expurged official release of them:( IMO, Queen were never a group advocating "sexually explicit content" in their music, they never took it seriously. But I'm speechless now. GSTQ |

Hate to resurrect such an old thread, but could this song be about rape? In the first verse he says that he "knew life before he left his nursery" because he was "left alone with big fat fanny" who was "such a naughty nanny" and "made a bad boy out of him". What do you guys think? Makes it a pretty depressing if it is true. |
