Sorry .. I dont have the same connection with Queen as of most of you ... Im 25 ..so if any band represented my youth more .. it was Weezer ..I can relate to em ... its sad for me that they are breaking up.
That's interesting...I wonder why. I've always kind of liked Weezer. But reading that article doesn't really seem like they're breaking up exactly...it sounds like they're just taking a break or something, a lot like Queen during their periods of down-time in between albums.
Another thing I could add to this topic. If this is Weezer breaking up. Their final cd or what could be their final cd. The Make Believe Album, I think its a cult classic amongst Weezer fans .. I can say this because I own every album Weezer has made and to me this album defines them alot better than any of their previous work. And just like Queen thier B-sides are really good as well , good enough to make yet another album out of em. I bought the deluxe edition of the blue album which came packed with a second disc filled with b-sides from that album those are not a bad collection either, has live tracks , and living room recordings along with demos and b-sides. It is a good buy if you like Weezer.
Looks like the writers have homed in the 'we don't know if we'll be a band next year quote' and taken a 'Weezer to split' angle for the sake of headlines.
Having said that, they did a lot to fuel speculation about their future around the time 'Make Believe' was released (For example, Rivers insisted that he would not promote the album beyond this year, the 'Tempest' quote on the sleeve (see the MTV news story), the song 'pardon me'). Worse still, they seemed to be fairly indifferent (but they playd well) when I saw them in June.
But... when I saw them for a second time in August, something had changed. The band (Rivers in particular)seemed re-energised, the setlist was full of surprises and there was a hell of a lot of interraction with the crowd. So I'm guessing that by then they had regained their interest in being a band and taking things forward again.
Then again, Rivers could decide to jack it all in tomorrow and become a full time meditative guru. The crazy sod.
