Just thought today I'd share this story about going to see Queen when I was 7 (though some have probably seen it already): link
The rest of the site is pretty old and I don't really do much with it anymore (the Concert Memories Archive was something I tried to start before queenconcerts.com took off)...I should really even check what links still work. But anyway there's that story :)
Luckily I moved to LA 3 months ago so I can go the Hollywood Bowl next month....
Recently, I saw a rerun of Saturday Night Live when Queen performed “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”…strange, since the last time I saw it was via my vivid memory of staying up and watching it live over 15 years ago. After that song came out, it seemed like an eternity waiting for the rumored new album which was due (since Queen had previously released an album every year like clockwork). After beginning to forget about it, my mom surprised me one night when she came home with The Game. She said she almost didn’t see it while flipping through the albums due to the shiny mirror-like cover (the original copies of the album were printed with a silver aluminum-foil cover for the background, rather than the gray background which later replaced it and is used for the CD). Of course, we played this album to death even though no other singles had so far been released. My favorite song was something called “Another One Bites the Dust”, though nobody else had heard of it."
Hey, when CLTCL was on Saturday Night Live, it was like two years after The Game was released :P
n the meantime, others around us were starting to talk to my mom. Two of them were a man and a lady who were apparently on date, and they ended up even staying by and sitting by us through the show. Some other people also offered to kind of stay around my mom and I to make sure I’d be safe on the way in. A couple of times, a big fat drunk guy yelled out, “Who’s your favorite group?” and of course everyone yelled “Queen!”
lol
.... Man, I'm jealous. That is so cool to go to that concert and your info about it is SO detailed, I feel like I'm there. Thank you :)
:-P by the way, I find it silly how Freddie kept dancing when he was leaving! He's funny!!
Man, you're a very very lucky one =D!!!
When i read this i felt like i was there, it was great...!
Too bad i can't see a show like that, but i really loved your story!
What a great story!! What a great mom you have, too!!
I saw Queen that summer also, at the LA Forum, and I'm looking forward to the Hollywood Bowl show too.
This is a great story. I saw them a month earlier in Providence when I was 15 and just the way you told the story brought many mamories back to me when I saw them the first time in 78 on the JAZZ tour. I was as excited as you and could relate to a lot of what you wrote. Oh, and Dakota was their opening act when I saw them too. I thought they sucked and we couldn't wait til they got off the stage. When Queen finally came on they just exploded! If anyone has the bootleg from that show you'll hear what I mean.
