I have a quote on me somewhere, that indicates the last recording Freddie did was in the Metropolis studios. I know that they spent most of their time in Montreux in 1990-91, but is it possible that the 'last' one was in Metropolis instead?
People also try to tell me that his last recording was much earlier, like February 1991. I say; BUNK. The guy was able to make videos in May, and still on his feet in August-October. I think that equates to being able to sing (if only once in a while).
Freddie did his last recording in Montreux in September 1991. Jim Hutton discribed in his book, that Freddie wanted to see his Apartment a last time and that he recorded there. Brian May said that his last vocal was mother love. And after he sang the second verse he said, that he is too weak to record the last, and he promised to record it when he feels better. As we know, Brian sang it, cause Freddie couldn't. Freddie's mom said, that in September 1991 Freddie phoned from Montreux cause of her birthday. So, Freddie definetely recorded shortl til he died. I don´t know if he was after Septemer again in Metropolis. I guess not.
Someone quoted Dave Richards as having said it was a matter of weeks, not months, before November but I think it was an exaggeration. September sounds right to me.
Cheers.

Who tried to say his last recording was in Feb 1991, those morons dont know shit about Queen I'm tempted to say and you should tell them that.... oops, I'm sorry. That was mean but really the fact that some one would argue when they obviously dont have the facts is one of my pet peeves. It just annoys the living daylights out of me.
What David said was: Fred phoned him and went to record the last verse of Winter's Tale. A couple of days later he heard Fred was back in London, and he died shortly afterwards. Probably that's why Brian thought the last recording had been Mother Love.
Aha!
See that's the thing - in the radio interview I have, Brian says 'the last thing I ever did with him was that track "Mother Love"'.
Now that's just the last thing Brian did with him, so yeah - you're probably right about that A Winter's Tale thing.
Interesting. Either song is a marvellous effort for him to finish on anyway.

Indeed. I *love* A Winter's Tale, especially. So much joy there.
(So...How do you all do the quoting posts thing?)
ETA: Never mind - I figured it out.

I didn't hear him say it in an interview or something, so I heard a totally different thing. But he indeed died about 2 weeks after his last recording
Oh okay thanks, because I asked because I thought Freddie was bed ridden atleast his last week from what I've read, I'm not privy to all the facts of\course but if thats the case and I see nothing to see why it's not, thats a very powerful performance, I always loved that song and to me that makes it a lil more powerful. I hope I can have that strength during my everyday life, maybe it's something to strive for. Now I know it's just a song and insignificant in the svheme of the universe but still it took a lot heart IMO
