Silly observation but I bought the Killer Queen tribut album and was listening through. When it came to Los Lobos's version of Sleeping on the Sidewalk, I though, "how appropriate, they are doing the blues song." Then the next thing I thought of was the Queen II b-side that is very blues, but has that gay as can be "...see you later sailor boy." line in it.
I thought how surprising it would be for someone to repeat that one in a cover and so, I was looking for other Queen lyrics a band might change.
I immediately thought of Sleeping and the line "I was sleepling like a princess." My guess was that a band like Los Lobos would change the line some. While the song was one, I was trying to figure out how they would change that homoerotic line to something else. When it came around, I had figured it out and was dead on to sing with them, "I was sleeping like a king." I laughed at how I guessed this. It's sad that a band's lyrics might intimidate a band like Los Lobos into trying to toughen them up a bit.
Silly thread but, there you have it.
Yeah, I was kind of surprised that they changed princess to king...Rooney stayed true enough to Death On Two Legs to even include the Lazing intro while Los Lobos is messing around with the lyrics! I mean, putting your creative spin on a cover song is great, but changing the words and the meaning is a different story...
I like how Metallica changed 'Rubber toy water gun' to 'fully loaded tommy gun'. I guess Metallica has to sound tough. "We don't play with toy guns, we are Metallica! We use real guns."
Dumbass band!
If you are going to make a TRIBUTE song, do not change the words unless you decide to write a new song. They did it the way they did it the first time for a reason. Leave it alone you silly assholes!
Christ they just changed a word!?
Clearly it means they are homophobic.
Josh Homme simplifies some of the lines in Stone Cold Crazy. He misses out a couple of repeated ''never's'' before the chorus. Ooooh big deal...

Metallica's rendition had nothing to do with them 'being hardmen'
it's not (as you say)
Rubber Toy Water Gun
it's
With My, Rubber Tommy Water Gun
Metallica changed it because he couldn't sing that lyrical combination at that speed - so he made it easier...simple as that
First of all I feel it was stupid to change the line to king, second I think it's kind of ignorant to even think the way Brian used "Princess" is homoerotic in anyway. It's common phrase and fits in line with the story of the song. I always thought Mettalica showed hown ignorant they were by missing the total point of Stone Cold Crazy, you can't one up the origninal lyrics. Queen is more clever than Metallica coould evver be and stone cold crazy proves that. It's a fully loaded water gun he's walking down the street shooting people with because he's stone cold crazy, get it?
