Oh dear, I am so sorry. I'm sure you're terrified. I've been watching the news this morning, and the damage from this storm is unreal. I sure hope you are able to connect with your Mom soon. I'll be praying for her, and for the rest of the people caught in this horrible mess. |

My mother was one of the unfortunate ones who couldnt escape due to financial distress (no money) shes at the Hyatt Regency Hotel .. thats all I know ... but i saw pictures of that building .. all the windows are blown out ... I saw my old neighborhood .. the mall is destroyed ... im almost willing to bet that my appartment in which my mother lived in is completely submerged ....along with my posessions and hers ...but materials do not matter at this point i can replace all of that except for the pictures .... there are no more memorys of me as a child im sure of it. |

I've watched news about Katrina several times on TV and newspapers and I've been worried about people there who have been suffering especially all those who are in Louisiana...my thoughts and prayers are with your mom and you. |
YourValentine 30.08.2005 12:27 |
I hope your mom is okay, what a terrible nightmare. What I don't understand is that people were not evacuated when it was obvious that the situation would be so bad. I saw on CNN that they are now trying to rescue patients from a hospital, that could have happened days ago. I am also very very worried about a QZ member who lives in Biloxi, Miss, I hope she is safe. |
bitesthedust 30.08.2005 14:30 |

Well , I have an update. After severle hours of tears .. i was contacted by the only person with a cell phone that could get a call out of New Orleans .. my mother is ok .. thank god. Now here is what I know about the evacuation , considering im an ex resident i can get you and even closer look at what has taken place. Our Governer , Kathleen Blanco ... just last year , developed a contraband flow of interstate 10 , they tried this last year and it backfired to the dismay of many people trying to flee Hurricane Ivan .. which back in that day , i was a taxi driver trying to earn an honest living , it took me 14 hours just to get to the state capitol of baton rouge which is roughly i think 50 miles from Metairie which is a suburb of New Orleans , and my home. The contraband flow would have worked perfectly had she only gotten cooperation from Mississippi Arkanasa , Oaklahoma , and texas to reverse the flow in those areas as well. The stretch of the contra flow last year was only 10 miles long. Now contrary of most reports you are seeing on the television as we speak. They managed to evacuate over 1 million people .. im guessing thats rougly 70% of the population. When I spoke to my mother I asked her what she was seeing . What she told me was , they have the National guard there and once again the media isnt saying this but they have storage tankers by the hundreds with fire hoses attatched to them trying to suck the water up as quickly as the water is rising. Now , I would like to thank each and every one of you for all of your help ... even tho I do not know most of you .... I consider you family because Queen has treated me with the most substantial relief from some of my greatest fears and pains. But not only that , it has come in handy for the great times I had too Many of them in New Orleans and when i was working as a taxi driver .. I couldnt tell ya how many times I was given tips just for playing Queens music .. there is a hidden tribe of Queen fans in New orleans alone .. my guess is the Jazz album and albums previous to it took the city by storm .. but not only that , in the uptown area there used to be a pretty big venu there that was called "The Warehouse" back in the 70s that my uncles told me about. Famous bands such as Black Sabbath and Queen played a many of shows there. Sorry if this post was way too long .... but i had to let some things off of my chest , this board reguardless of the bickering here at times should stick together with the new people and open our arms and teach our people the great knowlege music has to offer. I was once new here too and instead of asking questions i took the que from you guys. Thanks for teaching me thing I didnt even know about the band Ive grown to love since my grandmother passed away the same day as Freddie Mercury himself. Keeping myself Alive Ron |

Mine too. I doubt the Tanker trucks will do much since it's the ocean thats on the land... it will not affect the tide level. |
Captain Fap 31.08.2005 01:15 |
Ahh, I'm so happy for you. This whole thing has just been so horrible, the pictures and video of the devistation are so horrible . . . I don't remember Charlie or any of the others from last year looking this bad. Anyway, best wishes from Milwaukee. Dana |
Mr Drowse 31.08.2005 04:27 |
Good. Thank God your mom's alive and well. Do you have a clue whether your belongings are safe? |

I'm so sorry for anyone going through the worry, loss and pain of this disaster. I went through an ice storm here in January that nearly did me in. Freezing cold, electricity off for nearly a week, pipes froze and busted, went broke staying at cheap motels where I couldn't sleep anyway. Cost me $80 to board my cat. And my mom was having her semi-annual cluster of panic attacks at the same time so I couldn't even sleep at her house. I'd just start to fall asleep and hear 'Jeff, Jeff, I'm not breathing right'. Well there's a lot more to my story.. like me dropped off by a cab at a motel so cheap they wouldn't take my debit card.. walking across a busy street with my cat in a carrier, ice pouring down on me to find another place to stay. Anyway, I thought that was hellish enough. I can only imagine how these people must feel.. the ones lucky enough to survive. I get the feeling New Orleans is a lost cause. Everyone is going to have to be evacuated and the city will simply become a river. I hope I'm wrong but just look at the images... |

Well According to what I hear ,there will still be a New Orleans .. but not for some long time. I plan to visit there to look at what has changed.

They just said the New Orleans airport is open.. but only for emergency aid. It won't be available for regular flights until November. |

I feel relieved to know that your mom is okay. I do hope relief supplies will be sent to New Orleans and other areas hit by hurricane as soon as possible. |

Fucking hell. I thought 'Ha! Another stupid hurricane. America will make a huge deal of this' but fuck me dead, I didn't realise it was this hugely massively big. My heart goes out to those who have lost friends/relatives in this horrible natural disaster. |

ya everything is fine now... they are all alive (my family) and my mother is currently taking the evacuation as an impromtu vacation shes in the smokey mountains. As far as valuables go .. we lost all our furniture and my old computer has finally bit the dust. But clothes , pictures and most of the countertop kitchen appliances survived. Atleast I still have the memorys. |
rachael mae. 19.09.2005 17:51 |
Im glad the things that matter the most are still fine.. material possessions can be replaced but memories can't.. :( |
OgreBattleField1980 19.09.2005 17:56 |
Well ya know , for a while there all I could do was cry. Because the national news here kept showing places I used to go at as a teenager .. and even when I had my band , i used to play at some of these places in the French Quarter. I kept crying and crying because those places and the people there that lived there are beautiful people. Its no wonder why Freddie loved there so much at one point in his life. |
