The more I watch this DVD, the more I think Freddie was campy, ridiculously so, almost to the point of silliness. He at times overdoes his gestures, when I think he should take the song more seriously and give a more serious effort. It looks a bit silly, and ridiculous for a 36 year old man to be prancing onstage like a hyper chimpanzee, almost like a circus act. He should've been more serious, and gave the songs more respect. Does anyone else feel that way? |

I think there are times when Freddie & Co took a concert less serious than it demanded. For example, in the Japan show of the DVD, did you guys notice that Freddie sang the lyrics of Teo Torriate from a piece of paper glued to the piano, as though he could not bother himself to memorize the lyrics?? I was like, WTF??? That is pathetic in my opinion. Very unprofessional. |

Freddie was very animated and dramatic.He got into his songs. Thats what everyone loved about him.He said on the interview that he could not just sit there and sing he has to move around. He wants the audience to get the most out of the show. |

Of course I am a fan of Queen, and I am not homophobic. It's very unfair to make those sort of accusations. I could easily say to you all, you are all stepford fans of Queen. Not very fair, is it? I think I am making a valid point. Please answer me why Freddie would need to read the lyrics taped to the Piano? Is that professional? |

Or haven't you see "fat bottomed girls" performance, he wasn't a chimpanzee, he was a sexy-hot guy living his own songs and giving the best performance ever. Everytime i watch those concerts, i have to say that i love his moves more than ever. Just look at Live at Wembley "Hammer to fall" performance, and you'll see what i'm talking about. By the way don't forget "Fat Bottomed Girls" on Live at the Bowl. |

That's Freddie, and that what makes him super cool as the lead vocalist!! and yess. i do agree that 'Fat Bottom Girls' really rocks the crowd at the bowl..awesome preformance!!! dont forget..'Sheer Heart Attack' when the whole band goes to near frenzy near the end..truly superb!! |

To the original poster... Then watch any other boring ass band or artist where the lead singer just stands there with their thumb up their ass...there are plenty of them to choose from. Give me a Queen or AC/DC any day of the week.. By the way, what the FUCK does stepford mean?? I don't think it was ridiculous for Freddie to do what he did. I mean, he looked kinda silly sometimes but he was pure fun. Maybe he would look ridiculous now if he were alive and still rocking but I'm sure he would have gotten less wild on stage with the years. Having said that, look at Mick Jagger now, he's still prancing around, isn't he? On the other hand, the part about Teo Toriatte is kinda lame. I mean, he should've learnt the lyrics, it was his job as a vocalist, btw. He did it very nicely in Japan 79. That video is really cool. He performs that song like the magnificent anthem it is. Cool! And about Stepford, it's common knowledge over here and it comes from the movie "The Stepford Wives" which was recently remade. In it, the wives of all the guys in a place called Stepford are replaced by (or converted into) pleasing droids. The perfect yet vain, empty and fake version of the women they were. Well, if you read some interviews ,Freddie pointed out several times that he did not take himself seriously and that he wanted to entertain people while he was onstage. Let's remember he was a singer and his presence onstage was huge.In my opinion (very subjective as opinions generally are) he was a gifted artist in all senses .On the other side of course there are different tastes ,as yours ,and I do respect it since we are so different and , fortunately, free to choose what we see and listen to. Maybe I am more perceptive than others here. But I can tell when Freddie is being "animated" yet still giving a sincere, professional effort, and when he's just going through the motions. A good performance is Live Aid. He was campy but he did it in a serious way. He was professional, and dedicated. He is also soooo full of himself, like he is super-god or something. That turns me off a little, detracting from his technical brilliance. His cockiness, arrogance is unnecessary. Consider that in real life, he was purported to be a shy, modest person. Why couldn't he give a technically brilliant yet also respectably subdued performance? I just think that a lot of times, he is full of himself, and throws out a clunky performance, and thinks the audience should lap it up regardless. BTW, did anyone else see the Interview on the Live At the Bowl DVD with Brian and Roger? There's this funny moment when Roger contradicts Brian, and the camera zooms in on Brians face, and you can tell his ego has been rubbed the wrong way, and he is struggling to compose himself. What a thin-skinned arrogant guy Brian is! And all this time, I had the impression that Brian was a humble modest guy. I don't think so! I think it reinforces the notion that these 3 members of Queen (I don't think John Deacon was like that) were highly egotistical, with super sized egoes and it must be funny to see the arguments they must've had amongst themselves. |

Queen wouldnt be who they where and are if it wernt for freddies Performance on stage, gave a bit more than just standing there with a mic and singing...He liked people to Join in and be part of the show..!!
