What was the winning question/answer? The plane ticket you wanted to send did not arrive, Paul:) |

I am in huge trouble!! The timing for Breakthru this year was bad for me. I can usually take any time of the year off but I absolutely can't not be here for the beginning of school. It is my busiest time of year, that and right before Christmas. I'm so sorry Paulie!! I wanted to be there so bad. Also, no more free flights for me. Tony quit Delta and got another job. Delta is getting ready to file bankruptcy and give a third pay cut across the board to all employees PLUS raise their insurance cost again. It used to be that the free flights and great insurance were big perks for working at Delta, but now it doesn't add up anymore. Time to move on. I'm hoping to see everyone at Breakthru 2006 bc THERE WILL BE ONE!!! Wub you Paulie and thanks for all you do for North American fans. :) |
Erin 24.08.2005 10:02 |
I think Paul should move Breakthru to Atlanta...;-) |

No no no, convention center in Columbia, SC :-) |
Saint Jiub 24.08.2005 10:06 |
It was two written tests. No Public grilling. I presume the public grilling was eliminated to leave time for other stuff and to keep from boring the other Breakthru attendees. Questions (from memory) that I got right that others might have gotten wrong that may have been the difference for me: What late 1975 venue was played twice in one night? (Manchester) Which Strange Frontier song did John remix? I Cry for You. Questions everyone got wrong: What is the longest song on Hot Space? Back Chat What song that Brian guested on had the subtitle "Black White House"? Nobody Knew |

Rip Van Winkle wrote: What song that Brian guested on had the subtitle "Black White House"? Nobody KnewOooh I would have got that one! :-) |

"What song that Brian guested on had the subtitle "Black White House"? Nobody Knew" That's really funny because it looks like Nobody knew the answer, lol. And Back Chat is not really long, it just feels so long:) |

'....but expect catholic guilt from a gay guy in full force when we see each other *LOL*' I know that comment was aimed elsewhere but last weekend I was with my Mum & family on a river cruise to Windsor - part of her 'to do list' before she succumbs to her tumour. 47ft boat, waitress service, lunch at Brown's in Windsor (not recommended) and home in time for tea and scones. Tiring day for Mum but she really enjoyed herself. Game, set and match to The Shrek in the 'Oh, who feels guilty now' Open 2005! ;-) ~~xx~~ Congratulations on your win Mike :-) |

Congrats, Rip. I made the finals my only chance in 2002, and finished 4th. Got a nice autographed certificate from it. Would have loved to have done so again (if we could have attended) btw....poor ol' Jobey...high scorer all the time in the preliminaries all these years. How did he and Ricky Gentry do? joe, wife, and curious canine+ |

iron eagle wrote: you would probably miss it again *even* if it was held thereI most certainly would not...:-p Just think of the potential. Breakthru attendees would be just a few blocks from the ocean, not to mention within walking distance of the fantastic shops of Broadway at the Beach, the Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, etc... Hell..I'm a fricken genius! ;-) |
Saint Jiub 25.08.2005 15:21 |
Ricky had the highest score in the prelimaries, but did not make the top 3 in the final. I am not sure who Jobey is (I am awful with names). I was forthunate that Dave decided to gab rather than play trivia this year. Would Jobey be Joe Pace? If so, he came in second in the prelimaries, but did not finish in the top 3 in the finals. |

I am okay with South Carolina or Atlanta....personally I think a change of venue would be good to get some others out from other parts of North America....my preference is Toronto but I think New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia would all be good....haven't had an East side North American convention in a while and those ones were historically among the biggest....If it has to be in Ohio, maybe we should shoot for Columbus or there is also Pittsburgh in the next state....still vote for T.O. though |

Cleveland draws from Chicago to the west, Detroit from the northwest, Totonto from the north, New York from the east, and Hotlanta from the south. Pittsburg is expensive (dominated by US Scare) for airfare (I travel to Erie PA for business and flying to Cleveland is much cheaper than Pittsburgh. Toronto is too far north, and Hotlanta is too far south. Columbus is ok centrally, but is not a major airport hub. Although Cleveland is not a vacation mecca, it is the best possible site for the convention (for maximum attendance). |
