Back in the day, the bands coming out of Europe (Queen, Led Zep, U2, The Who..etc.) were always better than whatever America had to offer.
A good 25 years later, and American rock bands are pretty much just 500 diferent versions of Green Day, a horribly overrated bands in themselves. Even ebing American, I find myself listening to Coldplay, The Darkness, and all these new European bands, and they still get it.
Anyone agree?
Don't forget Rush, Van Halen, Foo Fighters, Red Hot CP's, Ben Folds - all hold up against British competition
As for new crop - The Darkness are not really established, maybe lucky 1st album - time will tell - no real loyalty in UK for rock bands anymore - anyone remember Extreme?
I agree. Anytime I feel bad about how much better English music is than American, I just have to remember the trade off.
Yeah you Brits have better music by far, however to put it simply, YOUR FOOD SUCKS ASS!!!!!
We can't rock like you guys but at least we can cook a decent cheeseburger : )
Oh, and about Van Halen, Nirvanna, Guns'N Roses and the other American bands.
They are good, but are any of them in the same league with Zep and the Beatles? No way. And Zep and the Beatles aren't even close to Queen(in my opinion).
My theory is that the Brits are so depressed about eating the shit they make that they turn that sadness and anguish into beautiful music. I was 18 when I first went to England for a week and a half. I bitched about the food and my dad said, "Either eat it, or starve." I took his advice and came back 27 pounds lighter.

aerosmith :) i love rhcp. and i do agree with the poster, american music sucks. try silvertide tho, i think youll appreciate them, theyre nothing like any of the bands you mention, in fact theyre much like hard rock from the 70s.
but yeah i cant turn on the radio without hearing 14 bands sound almost the ssame.
That's exactly the problem, especially in America......no staying power. The music is so disposable. Most of the radio stations are Top 40 in my area. There's only one station that delivers Classic Rock :-(
I have appreciated the music of Van Halen, Metallica, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Lenny Kravitz (a Zep buff), and still do.

This is interesting.
So your theory for the UK and Brits putting out better music (which I totally agree they always have and still do, and even have better events like Live Aid, live 8, Glastonbury, etc)...
..is they have to eat blood pudding, shepherd's pie, and HAGGIS!
And the reason the USA puts out crap music like rap, Britney, boy bands is we are all gastrointestonally content from cheeseburgers and moonpies!
*makes mental note to add this to the curriculum of current American and foreign countries' music studies' classes in universities and schools nationwide*
