It's a winning combination!
For those of you who do not know who he is, Billy Squier is a popular rocker from the 1980's. He got his start in a few small bands (The most popular one being Piper) and then broke through and topped the rock charts here in the United States. His best hits include "The Stroke", "Lonely Is The Night", "Rock Me Tonite", and "Emotions In Motion", which features our very own Freddie Mercury on backing vocals.
Billy Squier is still performing today, though he prefers acoustic performances rather than the flashy, hardcore rock shows of his heyday.
Let me get to the point: Queen is great, Billy Squier is great. They both have an amazing sound, both have made an impact on the US Rock charts, and they both performed together.
Queen was in the midst of their 1982 Hot Space Tour, as was Billy promoting his album Don't Say No. They sold out Madison Square Garden in New York City two nights in a row, and, in a way, Queen helped him become more popular than before.
All you Queen fans, if you have not heard Billy Squier, I recommend you listen to a few of his tracks. If you want, pick up his Greatest Hits CD, titled 16 Strokes. Go for it!
1. Billy Squier is great, but gets no respect.
2. Where is he performing today? I haven't heard of him doing any acoustic shows since 2001.
3. He toured with Queen in support of Emotions in Motion, not Don't say No.
4. I thought he would have been a good choice for the current tour in the spot Paul Rodgers has.

I have always loved Billy Squier. My favorite songs are ''Lonely Is The Night'', ''In The Dark'', and ''The Stroke''.
Billy, in the late 80's I believe did an odd, rather eccentic video for I a forgettable song that ran to death on MTV. It had Billy dressed in pajamas, PRANCING on a bed like a flaming, geek, idiot. Now It did not bother me except that the song reeked and Billy looked like he needed a valium.
However, it was worse career suicide for him than Queen's IWTBF video. More so because he came off as this inane eccentric, flamy, hyper SPAS! after doing such great rocker songs. he never recovered from that video or that song. Damn I wish I could remember the name of that song.
Help.....would be appreciated.
Arlene, Rock Me Tonight was a huge hit I think. I think thats the video you're talking about and I remember the song. I sdont remember the video so well, I vaguely remember him rolling in a bed in silk. Yeah most people point to that as the end of his career so I cant argue with that.
I saw Billy here in Cincinnati in July 2001. He opened for Styx & Bad Company. He looks really different now than from what I remember him from the 80s. Has real short hair now.
He put on a good show...played for over an hour and played the entire "Don't Say No" album w/ encores of "Everybody Wants You" and "Rock Me Tonight." He also opened his set with the fast version of "We Will Rock You". I about choked on my beer when he came on stage and launched into that!....lol
In the Dark, Another 1984, and particularly Rock Me Tonight are my favorite Squier tracks. I don't care how ridiculous he looked in that video (and he looked ***very*** ridiculous). He was good. Not terrific, but good. Love Is the Hero is also good, but more because of Freddie than Billy. But he's a good guy. When he comes on the radio, I don't change it.
ALWAYS loved Billy and his music. Saw him in November of 82 when he was headlining. "Love is the Hero" with Freddie is one of my all-time favorite Squier songs. They both shine in that tune. And yes Arlene, the "Rock Me Tonight" video caused him a lot of critical disclaim. Whoever talked him into that video should be made to prance around like that and in those pastel colors he was made to wear.
That's funny to mention Billy to front Queen... I tried to start that rumour 10 years ago. Jacky from the Fan club wrote me that it wasn't true. I like him, but in the current state that he's in (that I've seen on specials/VH-1) he's only 50% of the front man I think Paul is and only 25% what Freddie gave as front man. JS
Sadly, other than the opening track and the two Billy + Freddie tracks on his 'Enough is Enough' 1986 LP, the rest was rather bland and monotonous. A change of record companies followed, thereby increasing Squier's decline in popularity and sales. His vid for 'Rock Me Tonight' was actually pretty cool.
I've got the vid from his '82 Joe Louis concert. Kinda nice to watch before listening to the Queen '82 bootleg from the same night in Detroit that I saw

For some reason, I had 'RCA' stickers on my 'Tell The Truth' and 'Hear and Now' CDs.
You're right, a quick google search would have shown that BS was on Capitol all the time.
I apologize for my blunder and laziness.

I totally forgot about that song! I downloaded that years ago (in '98, '99??) when Billy had it for free download at some site (I forget which one now) but I lost it when my old computer crashed years ago.
Thanks for the link!
Billy would be a great frontman for Queen, as well as Rob Halford from Judas Priest (who is also gay and used the same leather look Freddie had in the late '70s...he would even look like Freddie on stage).
Either of them would have a good voice for Queen too I think...is there a boot of Billy singing the fast version of WWRY by the way?!?
love the motorcycle sound at the beginning of "Everybody Wants You," great tune. He worked with Freddie, so maybe it would be interesting to hear him work with Brian and Roger
