Why did Queen pick Paul Rodgers? I don't think they should tour with out Freddie. At least, they shouldn't call themselves Queen with out Freddie. It breaks my heart to see someone try to replace him. I think Brian, John, and Roger should come up with a new band, and not call themselves Queen. |
Gunpowder Gelatine 18.08.2005 21:39 |
Here we go again... Honestly, let them do what they want. It's there band, too - they worked hard for decades giving fans years of their life and music, can't we appreciate them for that and let them live the way they want to? Brian and Roger should be allowed to make their own decisions...Not to mention, a lot of us do support this tour and are glad to have a chance to see any incarnation of Queen! It doesn't make us any less of a fan or mean that we're destroying Freddie's memory...it's just Brian and Roger having fun under the name they chose. And as much as we all are fans, it's not our band, and it's not our decision. We don't own them. Let them make their own choices... |

I was so glad that everyday for the last few months, I didn't have to stare at these kind of posts because they were relegated to their own forum, e.g. the tour forum. But I see there are people trying to get our attention about this subject again... AGAIN! I still believe they (Bri n Rog) can be left to their own devices. Peace, Adam. |

The irony is why people think it is wrong to call themselves Queen. They are saying it's what's left of Queen and that it's a band that has the spirit of Queen, but through a new and different vocalist. The irony is that these people have a problem because "you can't replace Freddie. It isn't Queen without him." First off, thank you Captain obvious. Second, if you know he's dead, than you already know it's not Queen so it's not a misrepresentation. Third, this isn't a band trying to make new music, it's a band trying to re-invent their old sound. If they made up another name, who would know that it's a Queen show with just a new singer. How do we solve all this? How about calling it Queen + the new guys name? Gee, that makes since. I get even more sick of the people that bitch about how they should have used George Michael. I would much rather hear a totally new vocalist do an original job than some imitation that is going to be sloppy seconds to Freddie's presence. What's so great is that the true fans are the ones who should care and, from what I can tell, they are all smiling their asses off! Now if they had used Robbie Williams, I might be taking a different stance. Talk about dodging a bullet. P.S. On that last note, I always thought Robbie Williams likely to be a hack, a pop creation with no real talent. What always made me give him some credit was that I heard he wrote that beautiful song, Millenium. The other day I watch You Only Live Twice, the Bond film. That pretty strings part that makes the song was totally lifted from the theme song of the film. It's more of a theft than Vanilla Ice stealing the bass line of Under Pressure. |

Poor, little, Ilovefreddiemercury! There are a lot of mysteries that will remain unsolved, and this is just the last...notwithstanding the streams of words spent by what remains of Queen to justify the whole operation, or at least the apologetic tone used to express their renewed will to be just musicians. one could also say, Why john and not yoko? Why camilla and not diana? Life is not always as we would like it to be...and if you cannot accept the idea of paul rogers singing queen's songs, just stick something into your ears or turn the radio or whatever off, what is done is done, alas, and unless brian and roger change their mood nothing can be done... Be sure this caused one of the greatest division among queen fans |
its_a_hard_life 19.08.2005 12:25 |
Leave it out please! Brian and roger can do what they want and no-one can stop them, if they want to have Paul Rodgers then let them im just glad i can still see Brian and Roger alive and not dead like Freddie life is to short dont waste it with fighting and annoying comments Brian and Roger are still Queen so they have every right to name it Queen still, hush your month now please. |

I think this is pathetic. This is really not that difficult of a situation here: If you like Queen+Rodgers, then go see them, and get some bootlegs if you'd like. If you don't like them, then put on a Queen album and shut up. Stop wasting energy on negativity. Let people you disagree with have their fun. Is this what you do in the real world... at work? Someone makes a decision you don't like, and you feel the need to whine for five minutes about how your opinion is so much more valid than theirs? Wake up, and grow up. Stay home and listen to ADATR if that's what you'd like to do. In 58 days, I'll be at the Meadowlands, 50 feet away from Brian playing the opening lick to TYMD, watching the curtain fall, and having the best two hours of my life. |

It was during the 50th anniversay of the Fender Strat that Bri and Paul got together and started playing Queen songs, etc. One thing led to another. And so Queen + PR was born. I believe this first happened at Wembley. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. Anyway, IMO-No Freddie, No John, No Queen Queen minus Freddie and John might have been a better name. Freddie - We love you and miss you. |

Freddie's #1 Fan Forever 31.08.2005 01:54 |
As I have pointed out in previous threads, it is pretty obvious to most Americans that Freddie Mercury was defining element/star of Queen. In other bands, such as AC/DC, Van Halen or Led Zeppelin, the guitarists are as well or better known than the lead singers. This is not the case with Queen. Even in the UK, it appears that people regard Freddie as the really important member of the band. For instance, Freddie figured prominently in the Millenium Poll a few years ago, in which 600,000 English people voted for their favorite musicians, songwriters, etc. Freddie was ranked pretty highly as a vocalist, a musician and as a songwriter. The only other member of the band who made it into the poll at all was Brian, who was was at #90 (or something like that) as a songwriter. Unlike Freddie, he was not voted as one of the top musicians. I find it intersting that, on this very web site (link one year ago, a poll was done in which Freddie was overwhelmingly voted as the best songwriter. Furthermore, although John and Roger also got a chuck of the minority vote, it is fairly well documented that they received a lot of help from Freddie when they wrote their songs. In fact, Roger even admits that Freddie basically re-wrote both "A Kind of Magic" as well as "Radio Ga Ga". If you watch the "Magic Years" video, you can see evidence of Freddie basically dictating to Brian and Roger how to play (in this case, I think that it was "One Vision"). The other members of the band are very talented guys and they did in fact contribute a lot to Queen as well. However, when Kurt Cobain died, the other members of his band had the courtesy to change their name over to "Foo Fighters". Maybe they had legal rights to the name, but they still decided to do the respectful thing. If Brian and Roger are really such extraordinary musicians, then they, like the Foo Fighters, should have no problem attaining success under a new, more appropriate name. I don't think that there is anything really wrong about going to the Queen + Paul Rodgers shows. Although it would be terribly depressing for me, other people might really enjoy it. On the other hand, I really question the loyalty of the "Queen fans" on this web site who are going around saying that Paul Rodgers is a "better singer" than Freddie. In fact, I find these people infinitely more offensive than the religious fanatics who are writing posts about how Freddie is "burning in hell". My final point is that I feel that it disrespectful of Roger and Brian to continue to use the name "Queen" in order to sell themselves. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- tiffany |
