According to Brian May's web site, the "Killer Queen" tribute album debuted at #104 on the Billboard chart. A bit surprising if you ask me. Most of the acts featured appeal to that young, record buying generation but the sales seem to indicate awareness of the CD was fairly low. Where was the promotion for it? Gavin Degraw & Jason Mraz were on US TV around it's release but NO mention was given for the tribute album. Has anyone seen any magazine ads? Radio promotion? Wouldn't it have been wise to release a single or two to help promote it on radio? It looks as if Hollywood Records remains clueless on how to properly promote Queen product. I fear what they will (or perhaps WON'T) do for the "Return of the Champions" CD/DVD. |

Actualy I was going to say the reverse. Damn near every publication in the USA has or is reviewing it and last Sunday I drove to the 1 Tower Records we have in Rockville, Maryland near Washington DC..and as soon as I walked in the door,.. ..Big time in the front of the store, VERY prominently displayed....were racks and racks of the CD...along with posters of the CD. For people not aware of how the recording industry works, It is as DIFFICULT and IMPORTANT to get a record Prominently displayed in the FRONT of the store as it is to get radio airplay. The record label has to have specific promotion people effectively push and promote and be able to score with retail stores to get the stores to display the CD in the FRONT racks of the store, where that CD is in competition with literally hundreds of other CD releases and their record label promoters who are ALSO trying to get that coveted FRONT display. I was VERY pleasantly surprised at both that and the TONS of press reviews (though most were not favorable). I think people are not buying it plain out because it sucks. I have heard the entire thing and it reeks. People won't buy crap, whcih is what it is. |

Also, I want to add that you can't have your cake and eat it too. Alot of people on QZ complained about there being so many and too many press reviews. HELLO!!!!!!!!! That is a GOOD thing. While unfortunately most of the press has been unfavorable, hey let me tell you, same thing record label's can NOT force newspapers, magazines, and Internet sites to review a CD. The members of the press get TONS of CD's to review and cannot even get to most of them to even screen/listen to in the first place or think never listen to it and decide not to do a review because they don't think it fits in with their publication's readership or avdertisers. Same thing, a record label's PR people and promoters have to fight and work BIG time to make as many members of the press aware of a CD and then comes tthe HARD part, CONVINCING those members of the pres to review it at all. |

For whatever it is worth I think there are some great cover versions on there! I like it a bunch as well as the artwork, packaging, and the write up inside! It says some very exciting things about the possiblities in the future!! I can't wait!! |

In regards to promotion, are there any tribute CDs that get decent promotion nowadays? Their novelty wore off sometime after the Kiss My Ass tribute more than a decade ago. Perhaps comparing Killer Queen to other, similar tribute releases of the last 5 years is a better judge of its success. As for promotion for the CD/DVD, I won't blame Hollywood too much if QPR won't make any Radio/TV appearances. I've already heard the new single on XM radio, so it appears Hollywood is trying at least. |

Sorry Arlene...it is a BIG disappointment for Queen fans...even big mouth Howard Stern hated it! It's unfotunate that today's music industry is looking for big and fast profits rather than quality. Most of the new artists today suck IMO with few exceptions, i.e., Mraz, Coldplay and Muse and a couple of others. When you get to the corporate POP TART music quality goes right out the window and so does stage presence which almost all those new "artists" DO NOT HAVE! The don't even sing rather lip-synch or talk. Dont even get me start on Hip-Hop which is a music industry run by organized crime, and drug lords. The words to those hip-hop raps are not only offensive but downright STUPID and I believe responsible for the effective "dumbing-down" of the teens in this country. What a fu*king musical mess! Sure, the popular music from the 80's was way better then music from today.....not |

I've just downloaded mine and i'm glad i did it, because it doesn't worth any money!! I think that people should be more intelligent than that!- There are thousands of Queen music that would fit better those artists that the chosen ones. People simply don't want their biggest classics to be sing by other than Freddie. And they've choosen to record some of the heavier production ones. I mean, Brian has spent 12 days working on the Killer Queen guitar solo, and they've asked Sum 41 to do the all song in two days?!-Bad choise. They should have choosen more eighties tunes like Magic or Breack Free, Miracle, you know- Catchy sing-a-long tunes without messing with-the-impossible-to-replace-Freddie ones. Because, to do those 70's songs they need to invest more time producing it. And this is not a Queen product so i really don't care if it gets promotion or not. Instead of promoting this crap they should promote more the real thing witch they've fallen to do so since the 90's. Take care |

Kriz >:o(Krizzy, if you read my FIRST post, I said ''Killer Queen'' is CRAP and that it both SUCKS and REEKS and I agree with everything you said. When it was Originally announced what artists were chosen for this CD, I even said THEN, why did Hollywood Records choose such pre-packaged, flavor of the moment, talentless crap singers? I THEN went on to say that why didn't Hollywood handpick alot of icon, esteemed great artists or at least new artists who are also huge and have been around for the last decade with success and are fans of Queen..or artists who have worked with Queen and I THEN suggested... Elton John, David Bowie, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Velvet Revolver (with Slash who played at The FM Tribute Concert), The Foo Fighters, Green Day, My Chemical Romance. Any and all of the above would have been better. |

and? what's your point? no queen album dents the us charts. only their greatest hits, after all, it's only their hits that are worth listening to. |

Another frustrating thing. Most of the many bad reviews pointed to one or two songs which were worthwhile. And I dutifully went to iTunes to purchase those songs. But iTunes only has a 5-song "EP" version of the tribute album, which did not include the songs I wanted. So I didn't buy anything. --Egret |

[/quote] If Gavin DeGraw at the height of his popularity can't sell a Kiss Tribute album, you cannot possibly expect a newbie to the scene to carry this one... There's 14 other *established* artists on this album. Where are their fans? |

it's a piece of sh*t...i sampled some of it and the only thing i liked was Constantine singing BoRhap...if they put out a single of that, i would buy it, but not the whole CD just so i can hear one song and get bored of it...waste of money |
