LOCAL AND REGIONAL MUSICIANS GATHER FOR QUEEN TRIBUTE IN HAMILTON, ONTARIO
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hamilton, Ontario – September 3, 2005
In April, 1970, Farrokh Bulsara joined a semi-professional, London based band called "SMILE". Drummer, Roger Taylor and Guitarist, Brian May were unsure of the proposed name change, but in a small way, history was made, and QUEEN was born. Hard to believe, but had he lived, Freddie Mercury would have been 59 years old on September 5th, 2005.
On Saturday, September 3, 2005 musicians from Hamilton, Toronto and Southwestern Ontario will gather together at Hamilton's Legendary Corktown Tavern to celebrate the life of Freddie Mercury and the music of QUEEN with proceeds from the event going to Hamilton’s Sick Kids Hospital at McMaster.
This is the first such Queen tribute in Canada.
Some of the 20 acts being represented on this night are Mike Trebilcock (The Killjoys), Mickey DeSadist (The Forgotten Rebels), members of the winning Y108 Xtreme Band Slam competition: The Poisoned Aeros, Spin Dizzy, Amp Records’ Spoiled Rotten, Hamilton’s Most Hated Band: Britney’s Krack, Toronto R&B Rap rising star Latte D. Kyd, and Mohawk College Radio’s own Lou Molinaro amongst many others.
Donators already on board include: Sleeman’s Brewery, the Official International Queen Fan Club and Australian Queen Tribute band “It’s a kinda Magic” who have donated two tickets for their upcoming, sold out show at Massey Hall on October 14th.
Tickets are priced at $8 and will be available at REIGNING SOUND MUSIC, 272 King Street West, SCREAMING MIMI’s, 228 King Street West, and of course, The Corktown.
If you would be interested in donating door prizes or raffle items, please contact Bruce Hotchkies at 905-574-4273 or bruce@hotchkies.com.
