by reading the amazon reviews, alot of people are making a big deal of this version of "bo rap" wouldn't it be funny if bo rap makes the top ten for a third time by "contantine" i had no idea who this guy was until "killer queen" came out. i never watch american idol, but people seem to like this guy, and i think this version of our song has a real chance to be number 1 in the states and england.
i think if this version is a top ten, it will finally prove "bo rap" is indeed the greatest rock song of all time, even better than stairway to heaven. i don't think a song ever was number 1 three seperate times.
I don't think Constantine's cover is going to come anywhere near the top ten. Having a glorified game show contestant record that song is pretty close to a novelty act, and the time to capitalize on the publicity generated by his American Idol appearances has come and gone. Again Hollywood Records has missed the boat on promoting a new Queen release. They would have been better off releasing a couple of different songs to different radio formats, rather than trying to pick one track aimed straight at the Pop/Top 40 format. The Constantine BoRap is a competently performed and produced song, but its so obviously trying to be a clone of the original that anyone inclined to play it would probably just rather play the original and get the real thing, instead of an almost-but-not-quite copy. Music fans aren't gonna take it seriously and the teenaged and middle-aged women who voted for Constantine on American Idol have moved on to their next thing (probably J.D., Marty, or MiG on Rockstar:INXS).
All those positive "reviews" at Amazon.com praising Constantine are OBVIOUSLY his devoted fan base who will love anything he does. Have you noticed that any review that says anything negative about him gets very few "helpful" votes? This is a fan based campaign for the "AI" reject.
To put that song as a single with someone's voice other than Freddie just doesn't seems right.
Call me old fashioned, but why pick that song between so many?
And by the way, if Queen are planning to release the song as a single for it's 30 aniversary this is a bad move.
That song as a single only with Freddie on it. This is the only song that i feel this way (along with Stairway to heaven), because one thing is to make a tribute what i think it's great, but to make a star out of this song just doesn't seems apropriate. This song alone is already the Rock Icon of 20th century and should only be linked to Freddie. And yes, i'm old fashioned and i still think that there are some songs that should be left alone.
If they want to promote the album, better try the real thing.
Take care
As close as that song comes to the original, does anyone else feel as I do? I believe it sounds kind of forced and bland. Like computers put it together. No feeling.

Constantine has a nice voice in the same manner that the guy who wins a local karaoke contest has a nice voice. It's harmless, he keeps in tune, and doesn't butcher it. Only difference is Constantine's been on TV and the karaoke guy hasn't. The version on Killer Queen is bland and uninspiring it wouldn't matter who sang it, it's vanilla for a vanilla music world.
