Here we are talking about extended versions of songs; has anybody tried to do an edit of 'Keep Passing The Open Windows'? I always thought this would've been a great single, but perhaps ran on too long.
Anyone up for the challenge?
Yes, I did...
Just have to figure out how to share it with you... Haven't done that kind of thing yet...
I'll let you know when I manage to do it!
Actually, I made a lot of 'single edits' of various songs, just to try to get them to 'radio friendly length'. Some worked fine, some didn't at all!
Just checked, my edit of KPTOW lastst 3:55min.
Other tracks I tried to edit are:
- Great king rat (removed some repetitions)
- Liar (tried t make a better edit than the US single)
- Father to son (removed some repetitions and made an earlier fade out)
- The march of the black queen (removed the intro, middle part and the ending)
- Death on two legs (actually just removed to intro and started with the piano chords)
- The prohpet's song (removed the intro, much of the acapella stuff and some of the ending)
- Bohemian rhapsody (removed the intro and opera section, needless to say it didn't work out!)
- Good company (not much, just removed the intro and outro)
- You take my breath away (removed the intro, outro and some repetitions)
- The millionaire waltz (removed some repetitions and part of the middle before the rock part)
- Somebody to love (removed the intro and lot of the end chorus)
- White man (removed the intro, outro and some repetitions)
- Get down, make love (just removed the middle part with strange noises)
- It's late (removed the intro and some repetitios and of course shortened the middle part)
- My melancholy blues (removed some repetitions)
- More of the jazz (removed some of the intro and outro and the 'jazz-album-parts')
- Brighton rock live killers (removed some of the intro and of course of lot from the middle part)
- Rock it (just removed the intro actually)
- Flash minimix (made a sort-of hybrid from 'Flash' and 'The hero' like some live-versions had)
- Radio ga ga (shortened the intro and removed some repetitions)
- Machines (removed some repetitions, most of the outro and used the intro of the instrumental version)
- Keep passing the open windows (removed some repetitions)
- Was it al worth it (removed the intro, some repetitions and parts near the ending)
- Made in heaven (shortened the intro and outro, removed some repetitions)
- Let me live (removed the intro and some repetitions)
- I was born to love you (removed the intro and earlier fade out as in the vinyl version)
- Let me out (removed a lot of the guitar solo's)
- Love token (removed teh chatting part and some repetitions)
- Resurrection (removed some repetitions and some of the middle part)
- Nothin' but blue (just removed the intro actually)
- Headlong live Brixton (removed some of the intro, some repetitions and shortened the outro)
- Cowboys and indians (shortened the intro, removed lots of the original outro and edited a new outro)
- Sister blue (not much, just some repetitions removed)
- Old men (removed the slow part, not a really good edit to be honest)
- Bad attitude (removed the intro)
- The also rans (removed some repetitions and shortened the intro)
- My country (removed the slow part and the ending, not really stunning but sounds OK)
- Fun in space (removed some repetitions)
- Killing time (removed some repetitions and the middle part)
- Freedom train (shortened the intro and outro, removed some repetitions)
Just realized that I have the Father To Son edit on my website... If you wuold like to check it out, try this link. link
Just let me know what you think.
If it works, maybe I'll try to upload some more edited songs, if you like?
Sounds OK. I'm not a fan of 'single' versions generally, as they always seem to take something away from the song (apart from official single versions, i.e. One Vision / IWIA). I suppose I mean I'm not a fan of edited down album tracks.

As this topic originally started about an edited version of KPTOW, I have uploaded it to my webspace.
Here's the link:

I think it's quite well-done, the song hasn't lost much of its original idea IMO, which is the best kind of 'radio edit' I think, but still is almost 1:30min shorter.

Have you tried downloading it using your right mouse button and the 'save target as' option?
I don't really know why it shouldn't work, never had problems before with that.
If you like to hear more of my edited versions, please let me know... the list is above, but remember I will not upload all of them, because some are too similar of the original.
